16 shops gutted in Khulna market fire
At least 16 shops were gutted in a fire at Boro Bazar in Khulna Sadar upazila on Wednesday noon.
Locals said the fire broke out at a shop in the market near Bhairab bus stand around 1pm and it soon engulfed the adjoining shops.
On information, six fire tenders were pressed into service and it took them nearly an hour to douse the flames, said Md SalahUddin, divisional deputy director of Khulna fire service.
No casualties were reported as most shops were closed today due to Durga Puja holiday.
"The exact amount of losses and source of the fire could not be ascertained immediately," he said.

11 shops gutted in Jashore market fire
At least 11 shops were gutted in a fire at Balia Vokutia Colonypara market in Jashore Sadar upazila in the early hours of Wednesday.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Locals said the fire broke out at a shop in the market around 4.30am and it soon engulfed the adjoining shops.

On information, two fire tenders were pressed into service and it took them nearly an hour to douse the flames, fire service officer Khandaker Ashrafur Rahman said.
Fire officials suspect an electrical short-circuit at the first shop has triggered the fire. "The exact amount of loss could not be ascertained immediately," he said.
Local traders, however, claimed that goods and properties worth nearly Tk 1 crore were damaged in the blaze.

20 shops gutted in Sherpur market fire
Fifteen shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at Kushumhati market of Sherpur Sadar upazila early Sunday.
Jabed Hossain Tareq, deputy assistant director of Sherpur Fire Service, said the fire broke out at the market around 6am and spread soon.

On information, firemen rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after two hours of frantic effort.
Evidence of the fire originating from an electrical short circuit was found in primary investigation, said the official.

Meanwhile, the affected shop owners claimed that the estimated loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 1 crore.
Necessary action will be taken if the traders file a complaint in this regard, Jabed Hossain added.
