Afran Nisho to join Chanchal Chowdhury in Redoan Rony's comeback film 'Domm'
Acclaimed filmmaker Redoan Rony and popular actor Afran Nisho are set to collaborate for the first time in Redoan Rony's upcoming feature film 'Domm', inspired by true events and slated for release during Eid-ul-Fitr next year.
Both Rony and Nisho confirmed their involvement in the project which they described as a performance-driven, large-canvas film with strong emotional depth.
Written and directed by Rony—who earned a National Film Award for 'Chorabali', his debut feature—'Domm' narrates a story about the “power of a common man.”
“This is a story I’ve been waiting to tell for a long time,” Rony said about the film, adding: “The film is about a regular man rising against the odds. It’s not just about me, this story will inspire audiences too.”
Afran Nisho, who has gained widespread popularity through his recent performances in his debut film 'Surongo' and this year's superhit Eid film 'Daagi', called 'Domm' a “survival and inspirational story” unlike anything he has seen before in Bangladeshi cinema.
“There’s an intensity in the narrative, to which I was drawn immediately. It’s a big challenge for any actor, and that makes it even more exciting,” said Nisho, adding: “This film might be even bigger in scale than my last two.”
Though both Rony and Nisho have worked extensively in the media industry for years, 'Domm' marks their first collaboration and their debut film together.

Interestingly, when the project was initially announced in December 2023, it was revealed that celebrated actor Chanchal Chowdhury would be the main lead of the cast. Addressing questions about Chowdhury’s involvement now, Rony clarified that both actors will star in the film together: “Having both Nisho and Chanchal onboard is a dream comes true scenario for 'Domm'.”
Speaking about the film, Chanchal Chowdhury noted, “Redoan Rony returning to direction is itself a reason to celebrate. The story of 'Domm' is remarkable—one I haven’t come across before."
"It’s a challenging project, and I believe audiences will be surprised,” Chanchal Chowdhury mentioned.
As anticipation builds, fans have taken to social media with questions about the lead female actor and shooting locations. Rony responded, “We’re in the final stages of casting and location scouting. I’m grateful for the overwhelming interest and hope to begin filming very soon.”
The film is being jointly produced by SVF Alpha-i Entertainment Limited and Chorki. Shahriar Shakil, Managing Director of SVF Alpha-i, expressed high hopes for the project.
“After 'Surongo', 'Toofan', 'Daagi', and 'Taandob', the audience now expects powerful storytelling and performance. With 'Domm', we are committed to delivering just that,” Shakil said.
'Domm' will be Redoan Rony’s third film. Apart from 'Chorabali', he is known for creating numerous hit TV dramas like 'Housefull', 'FNF', 'Behind the Scene', and 'Pata Jhorar Din'.
He currently serves as the CEO of Chorki, one of the country's leading and successful OTT platforms.

Afran Nisho appears as a prisoner to promote ‘Daagi’
Popular actor Afran Nisho surprised onlookers by appearing in a prisoner’s outfit at Gulshan Shooting Club on Thursday afternoon, as part of an innovative promotional strategy for his upcoming film ‘Daagi’.
With long hair, a full beard, prison attire (numbered '786'), and handcuffs, Nisho arrived in a police van and was escorted by two men acting as police personnel. Typically, convicts wear such attire after sentencing.

Set to release this Eid, ‘Daagi’ marks Nisho’s second feature film in which he plays a convicted criminal. After gaining massive attention with his debut film, 'Surongo', Nisho is returning to the silver screen after two years.
During the film’s press conference at Gulshan Shooting Club, director Shihab Shaheen removed the handcuffs from Nisho's hand on stage. Speaking about the unique promotional approach, Nisho said, "We often see innovative promotional campaigns for films abroad. That inspired me to appear as a prisoner today. Audiences will see me as a ‘Daagi’ (marked criminal) on the big screen from Eid day across theatres nationwide."
Director Shihab Shaheen described 'Daagi' as a story of redemption. "It is a tale of love, separation, and repentance featuring the characters Nishan and Zerin, and the film also explores the experience of imprisonment," he said.
"Once someone bears the mark of prison, they carry it for life. That is where the importance of forgiveness comes in, which is not only a key aspect of our lives but also a fundamental principle of religion and humanity. That’s why we are calling ‘Daagi’ a story of redemption," Shihab Shaheen added.
The press conference was also attended by actresses Tama Mirza and Sunerah Binte Kamal, actor Gazi Rakayet, and actress Monira Mithu, also joined by the producers of the film – Alpha-I Managing Director Shahriar Shakil and Chorki CEO Redoan Rony.
The film was shot in Syedpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka, with Shahiduzzaman Selim, Gazi Rakayet, Mili Bashar, Rashed Mamun Apu, AK Azad Setu, and others playing key roles.
Produced by SVF, Alpha-I Entertainment Ltd and Chorki, the film’s story, screenplay, and dialogues were also written by director Shihab Shaheen. The title track of 'Daagi’, sung by Afran Nisho himself, was released on Wednesday. The song was written by Russell Mahmud and composed by Arafat Mohsin Nidhi, with Nisho performing alongside him.

‘Surongo’ to hit theatres in Saudi Arabia
Amidst the success of Bangladeshi films in theatres across the country on the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, makers of Afran Nisho’s debut feature film ‘Surongo’ have said that the film is all set to make its global release across different continents.
However, a particular country being on that list sparked interest among film enthusiasts, as this is reportedly the first time a Bangladeshi film will hit theatres in Saudi Arabia.
On Monday (July 03, 2023), the film’s lead actors Afran Nisho and Tama Mirza, director Raihan Rafi, Chorki CEO Redoan Rony and Alpha-i Managing Director Shahriar Shakil addressed several issues regarding the film, including the global release details, to journalists during a press briefing at Star Cineplex in SKS Tower, Mohakhali, Dhaka.

Addressing the media, Shahriar Shakil said, “As part of our global release, ‘Surongo’ will be released in seven countries in the Middle East in phases. This is most probably the first Bangladeshi movie to be released in Saudi Arabia, a country which has a great fanbase of Nisho among the expat Bangladeshi community.”
“We have also finalised Surongo's release in the United States, Canada, and Australia as well. It will be released on July 7 in six cities, including Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Darwin in Australia, and then on July 21 in New York, USA, and Canada. Then will be released in other states across the US from July 28,” Shakil added.
At the press briefing, the makers of ‘Surongo’ informed that the film is slated to be released by India's Shree Venkatesh Films (SVF) under import-export policy.

SVF is one of the film conglomerates in India, and Surongo has already been sent to the Indian censor board for approval. If the film gets approved, it will be released across India on a large scale, makers of the film said.
In the Middle East, ‘Surongo’ is scheduled to be released with Arabic subtitles, they added.
Released on the day of Eid-ul-Azha, ‘Surongo’ has been successfully running at multiplexes and single-screen movie theatres across the country.
