Sohel Chowdhury murder: Accused Ashish sent to jail in narcotic case
A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury, a charge-sheeted accused in actor Sohel Chowdhury murder case, to jail in a narcotics case.
Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Syed Mostafa Reza Nur passed the order and fixed April 10 to hear his bail petition.
The court passed the order after Shamim Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Gulshan police station and investigation officer in the case, produced the accused before the court in a case filed under Narcotic Control Act and appealed to keep him jail until the completion of investigation.
Meanwhile, defence lawyer advocate Selim Ashraf Chowdhury appealed for bail on behalf of the accused.

On Tuesday night, Ashish, absconding accused of actor Sohel Chosendhury murder case, was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from a house in Gulshan in the city.
During the arrest, bottles of foreign liquor were seized from his house .
Jahangir Alam, Deputy Assistant Director of Rab-10 filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act against Ashish after the seizure.
On 9 December, 1998, actor Sohel Chowdhury was shot dead outside the now defunct Tramps Club, housed in Abedin Tower in Banani’s Road 17.
A murder case was filed in this regard at Gulshan police station followed by a complaint lodged by Sohel’s brother Towhidul Islam Chowdhury.

On 30 July, 1999, Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police submitted a charge sheet against nine people including Ashish in this case.
On 30 October, 2001, Dhaka’s third additional metropolitan session judge court framed charges against the nine accused. After two years of indictment, the case was transferred to Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal.

3 sent to jail for killing UP chairman candidate in Pabna
A Pabna court has sent three people to jail in connection with the murder of an independent UP chairman candidate Yasin Alam of Bharara union of the district.
The arrested accused are UP chairman of Bharara union Abu Saeed Khan, 52, Nader Biswas, 53, of Bijayrampur village and Samo, 31, of Naldah village.
Pabna District and Sessions Judge Asaduzzaman passed the order on Tuesday noon.

Bail was rejected for all the three arrested accused and sent to jail. At this time 2 people – Alam, 33, and Shamsul Hossain, 40, were granted bail, said counsel Adv Abdus Samad Khan Ratan.
According to court sources, of the 34 accused, five including the current chairman Abu Saeed, surrendered to the court in the murder case. The rest of the accused in this case are absconding.
On December 11, while on election campaign Yasin Alam was injured when followers of Abu Saeed attacked. Yasin died on the way to the hospital.

Rangpur cop’s wife sent to jail in fraud case
A court here on Thursday sent wife of a police inspector to jail rejecting her bail plea in a case filed on charge of fraudulence.
Rangpur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Raju Ahmed passed the order when lawyer of Kaniz Fatima Anisa, wife of Rangpur district police inspector Habibur Rahman, filed a petition before the court seeking her bail.
The court fixed January 12 for the next hearing, said court inspector Nazmul Quader.
.Earlier on Tuesday, Anisa was arrested from a rented house in Beacon Mor area of Rangpur city.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station (Investigation) Hossain Ali said RAB members detained Shahrukh Karim Anik,34, and his wife Asmani Akter,24, on Sunday night from their house in Grand Hotel Mor area of the city on charges of extorting money from people and torturing them.

Kaniz Fatima Anisa's name came after the couple gave confessional statement to the court.
Later, she was arrested from a house in Beacon area around 5:30 pm on Tuesday, he added.
Assistant Director of Rangpur RAB-13 Mahmud Bashir Ahmed said in a press release that Anik and his wife along with some others used to target people and develop intimate relationship with them.
They used to take their obscene photos tactfully and extort money by threatening them of spreading the photos on social media.
Following a complaint, RAB-13 members conducted a drive at Grand Hotel Mor area of Rangpur city on Sunday night and detained the couple, added the release.
