Bangladesh reports one Covid death after 20 days; Positivity rate jumps to 10.87%
Bangladesh registered one Covid-linked death with 873 fresh cases in 24 hours till Monday morning.
This is the first Covid-linked death in the current month. The previous death was recorded on May 30.
The daily-case positivity rate jumped to 10.87 per cent from Sunday’s 7.38 per cent as 8,028 samples were tested during the period .
The country’s total caseload rose to 1,957,200 while the total fatalities reached 29, 132 with the new numbers , according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country on Sunday saw 596 cases with zero death.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 per cent. The recovery rates declined to 97.38 per cent from Sunday’s 97.42 per cent as 92 patients recovered during this period.
In May, the country reported only four Covid-linked deaths and 816 new cases, while 7,356 patients recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.
Among the four deaths during the period, one was vaccinated with single dose of Covid vaccine while three were vaccinated with two doses.
The country reported its first zero Covid death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 cases, since the pandemic broke out here in March 2020.

Global Covid cases near 521 million
The overall number of Covid cases is fast approaching 521 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 520,528,011 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,262,140 Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 82,421,408 cases so far and 999,522 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 43,116,254 on Friday, as 2,841 new cases were registered in 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

On Thursday, the number of cases was higher as 51 new infections were reported.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 per cent. The recovery rate rose to 97.23 per cent as 327 patients recovered during this period.

Global Covid cases near 517 million
The overall number of Covid cases is fast approaching 517 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 516,648,904 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,249,524, Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 81,831,854 cases so far and 997,318 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 43,094,938 on Friday, with 3,545 new cases registered in 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.
