PM congratulates new SAFF champions: Bangladesh women's team
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Monday congratulated all players, coach and the manager of the Bangladesh women's team for beating the hosts Nepal 3-1 to lift the title of the SAFF Women's Championship.
A brace from Krishna Rani Sarkar and an early goal from substitute player Shamsunnahar helped Bangladesh clinch their first SAFF Women's Championship title today.

Chess Olympiad: Bangladesh Women's team beat Iraq 3.5-05 pts ; Men's team lost to Iceland 1.5-2.5
Bangladesh Women's team beat Iraq by 3.5-05 points in the 9th round Women's Division matches of the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad being held at Mahabalipuram in Chennai, India on Sunday night.
In the 9th round matches of Women's category, Woman International Master Sharmin Sultana Shirin (rating-1995), Woman FIDE Master Noshin Anjum (rating-2027) and Woman FIDE Master Nazrana Khan Eva (Rating-1829) of Bangladesh beat Al-Fayyadh Zainab Asif Abdulah (rating-1149), Sara Masood Abdullah (rating-1677) and Tiba Mahdi Attiyah (Rating-1759) of Iraq respectively.
In the other 9th round match, Woman Candidate Master Jannatul Ferdous (rating-1815) of Bangladesh drew with Woman FIDE Master A–Ali Sali Abbas Abdulzahra (Rating-1864) of Iraq.
After the 9th round matches, Bangladesh Women's team is now in the 55th place with 10 points from 9 matches.
In the Open Division, Bangladesh Men's team lost to Iceland by 1.5 -2.5 points in the 9th round match of the Chess Olympiad also on Sunday night.

In the 9th round matches, Bangladeshi Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib (Rating-2377), Grand Master Ziaur Rahman (Rating-2424) and FIDE Master Mehdi Hasan Parag (Rating-2227) drew with Grandmaster Gretarsson, Hjorvar Steinn (Rating-2563), Grandmaster Stefansson Hannes (Rating-2541) and Grandmaster Gretarsson Helgi Ass (Rating-2472) of Iceland respectively.
Grand Master Niaz Murshed (Rating-2413) of Bangladesh lost to Grandmaster Kjartansson Gudmundur (Rating-2448) of Iceland In the other open category match.
Bangladesh team is now in the 65th position securing 10 points from nine matches.
The 10th and penultimate round matches due to be held Monday evening.
In the 10th round, the Bangladesh team will play Thailand in the open category and Bangladesh women's team will play Egypt in the women's category.

CWG Cricket : Bangladesh Women's Team beat Scotland by nine wickets
Bangladesh women's cricket team maintained their all-win run in the five- team qualifying round of the Commonwealth Games Women's T20 Cricket beating Scotland by nine wickets in their 3rd match at Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. This was the 3rd consecutive win for Bangladesh women in CWG qualifiers after beating hosts Malaysia by eight wickets in the first match and Kenya by 80 runs in the 2nd match, featuring new records in both batting and bowling.

The Tigresses will now needed just an outright victory against another unbeaten team Sri Lanka on Monday (Jan 24) to qualify for the 22nd Commonwealth Games ,scheduled to be held in England’s Birmingham in July-August this year. The champions of the five-team qualifiers will join seven other nations - England, India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Barbados (West Indies) -- in the eight-team final round of the CWG women's cricket. In the day's match, Scotland Women's batted first after winning the toss and were bundled out cheaply for 77 runs in 17.3 overs. Only two Scottish batters --opener Sarah Bryce (29) and middle order Katie McGill (22) were able to score double digit runs. Four Bangladesh bowlers--Salma Khatun, Sanjida Akter,Suraiya Azmin and Nahida Akter--claimed two wickets each conceding 9, 11, 12 and 20 runs respectively. Chasing a small target of 78 runs, Bangladesh Women's team easily reached their targetl scoring the match-winner 78 runs for the loss one wicket in 15.2 overs. After the dismissal of opener Sharmin Sultana for a duck in the very first ball, another opener Murshida Khatun pairing with one down Fargana Haque guided the team towards victory scoring an unbeaten 78 runs in the 2nd wicket stand.
