Everything is set to hold elections to Dhaka north and south city corporations with the participation of candidates from the two major political camps – Awami league and BNP – on Saturday.

BNP’s mayoral candidate for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election Tabith Awal on Thursday demanded that voting be held with ballot papers, saying people are still not ready to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

The BNP mayoral candidates in the elections to Dhaka north and south city corporations on Saturday lodged written complaints to the respective returning officers about the ‘harassment’ of councillor aspirants and violation of the electoral code of conduct.

Over 1,000 aspirants, including 14 mayoral candidates, have filed nominations to contest elections to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) slated for January 30 as the deadline for nomination submission expired on Tuesday afternoon.
