Vivo V23e 5G Review: Is it a good mid-range camera phone?
The Vivo V23e 5G is part of the next flagship V series from Vivo. The phone was launched on 1st December 2021 in China with a rolling release date in other countries. The V23e is a light model of the flagship V23. With an AMOLED display, octa-core processor, and triple camera setup, the phone has much to offer for people looking for a premium experience at a budget price. Here’s an in-depth take on the Vivo V23e 5G.
key Specifications of Vivo V23e 5G
Design and Build Quality
The Vivo V23e 5G retains much of the design elements from its bigger brother. However, the materials have been swapped to cut the cost. The V23e still features a glass front and back with a stainless-steel frame.
This year, Vivo went with a more boxy design like the iPhone 13 series. It allowed the phone to be pretty slim at 7.4 mm. The phone feels very good in the hand thanks to the rectangular design and even weight distribution.

The volume rocker and the power button are situated on the left of the device with the sim tray on the right. The phone supports a dual hybrid sim meaning one of the slots can be swapped out for a micro-SD card.
The main speaker along with the Type-C port is situated at the bottom. The top features just the secondary mic for noise cancellation. However, one of the gripes with the device is at the front. The bezel on the screen is somewhat on the thicker side by 2022 standard. But that is just another cost-cut corner of this device. Overall, the device looks and feels premium compared to other devices at this price range.
The Display
The V23e has a 6.44-inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution. But that’s about it when it comes to the features. There isn’t any 90 Hz or HDR 10+ support like the V23. The display has a 409 ppi which gives the contents a crisp and sharp look.

There aren’t any aberrant color shifts like other entry-level AMOLED panels. The viewing angles are also great with no noticeable distortion. The phone comes with a warmer display tone out of the box. But that can be easily changed from the display settings.
The Camera
Now onto probably the best thing about the V23e, the camera. The phone has a triple camera setup with a 50 MP f/1.8 26 mm wide-angle main sensor. The large shooter is complemented by an 8 MP ultrawide shooter and a 2 MP macro lens.
The macro lens seemed pretty gimmicky as the results were far off from other macro sensors on high-end devices. The main sensor and the ultrawide shooter took decent images in testing.

The colors and the dynamic range in outdoor and brightly lit conditions were amazing. There weren’t any visible grains or noise in the pictures. The sensor can also shoot an accurate portrait effect when the subject has a well-defined outline.
The only noticeable weakness of the main sensor is in artificial light and dimly lit environments. The night mode does a great job of capturing details but often overexposes the subject or the background in the process. Sometimes the color looks washed out. But those are just rare instances. For the most part, the camera performed well in both lighting conditions.
The phone can shoot 4K and 1080P at 30 fps. The videos look detailed and stabilized thanks to the gyro-EIS.

There is a 44 MP f/2.0 front camera. Vivo has always been big on the selfie trend. The V23e also follows suit in that regard. Overall, the camera system on the V23e is more than capable in its price range.
Processor and Performance
The series from Vivo has always been slated as a cost-effective flagship experience of their V line. While the V23 has the flagship Dimensity 920 5G chipset, the V23e settles with Dimensity 810 5G from MediaTek.
But that is not necessarily a bad thing. The Dimensity 810 chipset is also built on the 6 Nm architecture which makes it incredibly capable and efficient. The Octa-core processor runs 2 2.5 GHz Cortex-A78 and 6 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 chips under the hood. The chipset is complemented by the Mali-G68 MC4 GPU.

Speaking of performance, the V23e will give any phone a run for its money in this price segment. The phone easily breezes through daily tasks like browsing the web or social media. The phone can also handle graphic intensive games like PUBG, Asphalt 9, and Free fire pretty well. While gaming, significant throttlings or frame drops do not occur, but the phone does get a bit heated after an extended period of gaming. There would be no severe rapid battery drain issue for the processor-intensive task. The chip is very well capable of handling and managing tasks without compromising on performance.
Talking about compromises, the new users of Vivo might feel a bit out of the water with the Funtouch 12 OS based on Android 12. The UI design is reminiscent of iOS which can be a great thing or a bad thing depending on preference. However, the OS seamlessly integrates with the hardware to provide a smooth experience.

Battery and Charge Time
The Vivo V23e has a 4050 mAh battery. Now it might feel a bit low for a 6.44-inch screen device. But the efficient processor easily justifies the choice. The phone churns out 6-7 hours of SoT with moderate usage which is more than enough. And even if the user runs out of juice, the 44W included fast-charging brick is there to top up right away. The company advertises up to 69% charge from zero in just 30 minutes.
Price of Vivo V23e 5G in Bangladesh
The Vivo V23e 5G variant is not officially available in Bangladesh yet. In India the price is around Rs. 29,490 which is equivalent to BDT 33813.23 (1RS= 1.15 BDT). The official price of vivo V23e may vary in Bangladesh due to diverse issues like tax, company policy, etc.

Verdict
The Vivo V23e gets most of the fundamentals with certain lacking in the design department. The phone provides an excellent camera system with amazing performance and battery. However, for the price, Vivo could have included a higher refresh rate panel. That being said, the V23e can still be a great choice for the camera phone enthusiast out there.
