Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui on Wednesday said that Bangladesh will not make any concessions on issues where it feels deprived in its dealings with India. “We will not compromise on the matters where we believe we have been deprived,” he told a press briefing on the upcoming border conference between BGB and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Home Ministry’s conference room. He added that the Foreign Ministry has been asked to address the unfair agreements with India through diplomatic channels. “These issues will be resolved diplomatically, but from our side, there will be no concessions,” he said. Major General Shakil Ahmed, a seasoned Army officer, has taken over the reins of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Major General Ahmed took over the coveted responsibility of BGB director general from the force's acting head, Major General Md Shafeenul Islam, at the Philkhana headquarters in Dhaka on Monday, said Md Shariful Islam, PRO, BGB HQ. He also served as the GOC 19th Infantry Division, Commander of the 99 Composite Brigade and Commander of the 1st East Bengal Regiment. He also served as the director general of the Bangladesh Passport and Immigration Department. Major General Ahmed was commissioned on 24 June, 1988, in the Corps of Infantry, after completing the mandatory course at the Bangladesh Military Academy. Major General Shakil Ahmed has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The public administration ministry issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.
