iPhone 14 Series: Leaks, Rumors, Possible Release Date
It has been only 4 months since the launch of iPhone 13 series but the rumors of iPhone 14 series have already been started. Some of these rumors picked up the pace even before the release of the 13 series. Since Apple has not really brought any innovative changes since the iPhone 11 lineup, the anticipation with the 14 series is as high as ever. Is this the year Apple brings breakthrough tech in their mobile lineup? Or will it be just another incremental update? Here is everything that is known so far about the iPhone 14 series, the arguably greatest phone lineup in the world.
Leaks and Rumors of iPhone 14 Series
Design
Will there be a design overhaul with the iPhone 14? Notable leakers Jon Prosser and Ming-Chi Kuo claim that iPhone does not plan to bring any significant change to the designs until the 15 series in 2023.
However, both of them noted that there will be changes to the front notch and the camera bump of the phones. The current notch design was introduced with the iPhone X series back in 2017. Apple may finally move away from the notch to a less obtrusive pill or punch hole design.

The camera bump is slated to be gone as well bringing back the flush design of the iPhone 5 series.
Apple will retain the box-like design for at least a couple more years as per the leaks. So, people hoping for a design revolution will have to wait beyond the 14 series for the time being.
Lineup and Materials
The iPhone 13 series marks the end of the mini variant. Reported poor sales of the iPhone 12 and 13 mini means Apple will be pulling the plug on this one. Instead, Apple is rumored to introduce the Max variant for the standard iPhone 14.

Currently, Apple has an iPhone 13 and 13 mini with 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max being the high-end offerings. The iPhone 14 Max will replace the mini as a budget alternative to the 14 Pro Max.
The notch might stay with base iPhone models namely the 14 and 14 Max. But the higher-end 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max may either see the punch hole or the pill-shaped camera cut out.
There have been leaks about the materials as well. iPhones have long since used stainless steel or aluminum as the base material for their iPhones. But all of that might change with the new lineup. Reports suggest that Apple might introduce titanium frames for the higher-end Pro models in the 14 series lineup.

Camera Series
The iPhone 13 series saw a huge upgrade over the 12 lineup. The change is likely to continue to the 14 series as well with leaks suggesting there will be a 48 MP main sensor across the entire series. This will bring significant development in the pictures as well as videography. The cinematic mode on the current 13 series is expected to get a huge boost due to software optimization.
Apple is slating to bring 8K videography in the pro models of the 14 series. As per Jon Prosser, Apple will stick to the triple camera setup for the time being and the front-facing camera will not see any changes in the 14 series.
Display
Apple already introduced LTPO technology into their display last year with the 13 series. This year, Apple might use the updated LTPO2 tech for the display. As for the display technology, notable Apple analyst, Jeff Pu suggests that there won’t be any new changes to the display. The displays will have the same OLED panels with variable refresh rates and upgraded brightness.

Just like the iPhone 13 series, the 14 and 14 Max might not receive the higher-end 120 Hz refresh rate. Apple will reportedly stick with the 60 Hz resolution which is quite a letdown.
Performance and Connectivity
Apple has always been big on the performance aspect of their devices. The bionic chipsets were the first to include over 1 billion processes in the system in any mobile device. Naturally, the iPhone 14 series is also slated to boast the latest and greatest chipset from Apple, the A16 Bionic.
Jeff Pu notes that the iPhone 14 series will have some internal performance improvements with the A16 Bionic chipset but it will not be very apparent on day-to-day usage. The A16 Bionic will likely be built on the 4 Nm processor compared to last year’s 5 Nm architecture. This should bring better battery life and performance across all the devices.

Last year, Apple upgraded their GPU to 5 cores across the iPhone 13 lineup. However, the 5th core was not activated on the device. This year, the core might come preactivated.
On the connectivity end, Apple will introduce the WiFi 6E, the next generation WiFi into the 14 lineups. It is slated to bring better upload and download speed along with connection.
Battery
Even a few years back, Apple was notoriously known for having smaller batteries that barely lasted a day. But that all changed with the iPhone 12 lineup. Since then, Apple has had a significant battery boost increasing the efficiency as well as battery size. The 13 Pro Max had a considerable battery size upgrade from the 12 Pro max which gave it the best battery life for any smartphone released last year.

Apple is expected to take the same performance up a notch with an even bigger battery. In addition to the increased battery, there is expected to be a 15 W Magsafe charger, 7.5 W wireless charger and a standard 20 W wired charging.
But the most interesting development comes in the port. Rumors have it Apple might finally ditch the lighting port in favor of the USB Type-C port.
Expected Price of iPhone 14
The pricing of the iPhone 14 series is slated to remain the same as that of the 13 series. But if Apple introduces the 14 Max variant, it will be around 1000 USD more than the standard 14.

Final Words
According to the leaks and rumors of Apple iPhone 14 series a bunch of new features will be added. There may not be any breakthrough tech introduced in the 14 series, but some of the innovative changes will be worth getting excited over. The notch and the port are some of the interesting directions Apple is heading towards. But to see how things actually pan out, users will have to wait till September 2022.
