Girl from Netrakona gang-raped inside bogie at Kamalapur station
Police arrested five youths on charge of gang-raping a 17-year-female girl inside a bogie of an inter-district train stationed in the city's Kamalapur railway station early Saturday.Of the arrestees, two have given confessional statement about their involvement in the gang rape before a Dhaka court, police says. However, another perpetrator known as Imran has been absconding since the incident.The arrestees were identified as Nazmul, 25, Anwar, 20, Naim, 25, Sumon, 21, and Ruman alias Kalu,22.
Read: Young girl gang raped in ChattogramQuoting the 17-year old female juvenile, police said the victim hailing from a village of Netrokona reached Kamalapur police station by an inter-district train at around 8:30 pm on Friday night.She came to Dhaka leaving her village home after a quarrel with her parents, said OC of Kamalapur railway police station Ferdous Ahmed.As she had no specific destination, she was waiting at Platform no-2. Absconding Imran struck up a conversation with her and asked her to stay inside the bogie at Platform No-1 saying that it will be safe for her.Later at around 12:30 am, Imran along with 4-5 others went to the bogie and raped her forcibly. When a railway security guard was passing near the bogie, the perpetrators fled the scene in fear.The security guard rescued the girl and handed her over to Kamalapur railway police in the morning. Later, the police arrested the five youths from the station area identified by the victim.A victim filed a case with Kamalapur railway police station.
Police produced the arrested five youths before a Dhaka Court on Saturday afternoon. Of them, two - Naim and Sumon - gave confessional statements on their involvement in the gang rape incident, said the OC. All of the accused were sent to jail, while police are still hunting for absconder Imran.

Minor girl dies of snakebite in Bogura
A minor girl died of snakebite in Nandigram upazila of the district Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Sohamoni, 3, daughter of Abdus Sattar of Doupukuria village in the upazila.
Morshedul Bari, chairman of Bhatra union parishad, said the child was playing at the backyard of its house in the morning.

Suddenly, a venomous snake bit the child while playing there, leaving her injured.
She was rushed to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where physicians pronounced her dead, the chairman added.

Minor girl dies in Natore road crash
An eight-year-old girl travelling in a three-wheeler with her mother died after a bus rammed the vehicle at high speed in Natore's Lalpur area on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Mim Akter, daughter of Kakuli Begum.
Police said both Kakuli and her child Mim were in the three-wheeler when the bus carrying a picnic party hit it on the busy Ishwardi-Lalpur Road.

"Mim fell off the three-wheeler and was run over by the killer bus. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival," said Lalpur police station OC Moniruzzaman.
Locals managed to nab the driver and seize the bus after the accident, he added.

Youth stabbed on eve of wedding in Shariatpur: Accused injured in mob beating
An 18-year-old girl was stabbed to death by a youth in Shariatpur sadar upazila on Saturday, a day before her wedding and the accused was injured in a mob beating.
The deceased was identified as Kakoli, 18, a student of class 11 in Shariatpur Sadar Alia Madrasa, and daughter of Nuruzzaman Madbor of Char Palong village in the upazila.
She succumbed to her injuries around 3 am Sunday at a private hospital in the capital’s Dhanmondi area, said the family.

Meanwhile accused Zahidul Islam, 18, former student of the same Madrasah of Kakoli and son of Mujibur Rahman of Kashabhog union was admitted to Dhaka Medical Hospital on Saturday night after he got brutally beaten by the locals after the incident.
Kakoli was talking to her would be husband on phone in her house when Zahidul entered the house through a window and took her behind the house.
There he stabbed her neck with a knife and hearing her cry Kakoli’s family members nabbed Zahidul. Locals locked him up in a room after beating.

Aktar Hossain, officer-in-Charge of Palong police station said the body was handed over to the family after an autopsy.
He said a murder case will be filed under section 302 of penal code following the complaint lodged by victim’s brother Faruk Hossain on Saturday night.

12-year-old girl found dead in Magura
A 12-year-old girl was found dead on the banks of the Kumar River near her residence in Hatsrikol village of Sreepur upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Razia Khatun, daughter of Mikhiz Sheikh of the village and a Class VI student of Hatsrikol Secondary School.
Police suspect the girl had been murdered over an alleged love affair as she was found with her throat slit.

Asmat Ali Sheikh, grandfather of the deceased, said that Razia went missing around 3 pm on Thursday. "Her body was found on the banks of the river around 11 am on Friday."
Officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station Sukdev said that the girl had been brutally murdered. "Efforts are on to nab the killer."
A case has been lodged at the Sreepur police station in this regard. "The body has been sent to the Magura hospital morgue for an autopsy," the OC added.

Natore: RAB rescues kidnapped girl
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday night rescued a Class VIII student who was allegedly kidnapped from her grandparents' house in Lochangarh village of Natore Sadar upazila.
The kidnapper, identified as Anik Hossain, was also detained during the raid at a house in the Ekdala area of Natore Sadar upazila, officials said on Saturday.

Natore RAB deputy commander Rafiqul Islam said that the girl was kidnapped on December 2 from her grandparents' house. "Acting on a complaint filed by the girl's family, the RAB conducted an operation, rescued her and held the kidnapper."

Teenage girl becomes Panchagarh UNO for an hour
A student of class nine took over Panchagarh Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office for an hour as a symbol of empowerment of girl child on National Girl Child Day.
Sadia Binte Awlad Ahona is a student of Panchagarh Government Girls’ High School and member of district’s Child Parliament who took over the responsibility from Panchagarh UNO Arif Hossain.
The initiative was taken by Non-Government Organization Plan International and National Children Task Force (NCTF) to encourage empowerment of women, its implementation and spreading awareness on rights of women and children.

The takeover is a part of the global #GirlsTakeover, a signature activity of Plan International.
For one hour the whole sadar upazila administration officers and staffs came under supervision of the ninth grader as she held discussion on child marriage, violence against women and proposed recommendations to make the 10 unions, one municipality woman friendly.
UNO Arif Hossain said he will take Sadia’s recommendations in consideration to turn the upazila woman friendly and stop violence against women.

10-hour ordeal for girl trapped in school loo
A speech-impaired student remained trapped in the washroom of her school for over 10 hours in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur district.
Police said Sharmin Akter, a SSC examinee and daughter of Anwar Hossain of Dakkhin Asrafpur of the upazila, went to Hossainpur Girls School on Thursday morning.
Around 12.30, after the school hours, Sharmin went to the toilet. However, office assistant Shahanara Begum Shanu locked the loo from outside without checking if anyone was inside.
As the girl was speech-impaired, she failed to raise an alarm, police said.
Around 10pm that day, Al Amin, a resident of the area, heard the groaning sound of the girl. He immediately broke open the door of the school toilet with the help of local people and rescued the girl.

Amir Hossain, headmaster of the school, said, "He left the school around 4.30 pm but had not spotted anyone on the premises then.'
Shahrasti Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Shirin Akter, said, “A probe has been ordered to find out if there was any negligence on the part of the school authorities. Action will follow, after the probe report."
The headmaster and the president of the school managing committee met the girl's family on Friday and offered their apologies.
