15-storey ‘Modern Mansion’ at Motijheel declared ‘risky’
Fire Service officials have declared Modern Mansion as ‘risky’ after cracks appeared on five pillars of the 15-storey building at Motijheel in the capital.
The authorities put up a signboard announcing it as 'risky building' after an inspection on Wednesday, said Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate.

Three pillars on the second floor and two on the third floor of the building developed cracks, he added.
A search and rescue team of Fire Service and Civil Defence visited the building after the cracks on the pillars were reported around 9:40 pm on Sunday. The building was evacuated immediately.
This old building got approval for construction in 1962.

A crack was found in a pillar on the third floor of Modern Mansion, a 15-storey building in Motijheel on Sunday.
The locals reported the crack around 6:58 pm, Shahjahan Shikdar, Deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

A search and rescue team of Fire Service and Civil Defence completed an inspection of the building at 9:40 pm.
The building was evacuated immediately.
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) have been informed, and they may take further action in this regard, said the Fire Service official.
