Field-level police officers instructed to monitor markets ahead of Ramadan
Field level police officers have been instructed to regularly monitor markets to prevent any abnormal increase in prices during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
They have also been instructed to take necessary steps to ensure that no one creates any untoward situation by spreading rumors about price hike, short supplies, etc.
The directives were given from a virtual meeting on monthly crime review held at the police headquarters on Tuesday with Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md. Atiqul Islam in the chair.
All Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs and District Superintendents of Police (SPs) of Bangladesh Police participated in the meeting virtually. Among others, DIG (Operations) Md Haider Ali Khan and concerned officials of police headquarters were present at the virtual meeting.

Information regarding the overall crime situation of the country in the month of January 2023 was also presented in the meeting, says AIG (media) of the police headquarters Md Manzur Rahman.
During the meeting, importance was given on taking precautionary measures and increasing police activity so that no group can create any kind of conspiracy by exploiting the communal issue. District and highway police were instructed to jointly perform their duties to prevent all types of extortion to ensure the transportation of essential goods during the month of holy Ramadan.
In his address, Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md. Atiqul Islam gave instructions to make preparations from now on to make the Eid journeys of the homebound people smooth during the coming Eid.
He also directed the field level police officers to remove illegal structures on both sides on the highway and take necessary action against unfit vehicles.
The meeting review of the statistics of various cases placed in the meeting shows that in the month of January 2023, there was a decrease in the total number of registered cases, robbery cases, murder cases, rape cases, women and children abuse cases compared to the previous month of December 2022.

Germany to assist with technology to monitor soil: Agriculture Minister
Minister for Agriculture Dr Abdur Razzak said German businesspeople will assist Bangladesh in monitoring the quality of soil through satellite technology to boost agricultural production.
He said this after a meeting with the Germany Agriculture Alliance and leading agriculture businesses in Berlin on Friday.
The minister said several issues including establishment of Better Life Farming, implementation of global Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and assistance in agricultural products were discussed at the meeting.
He said pilot programmes on the issues will be taken soon in the country.

Germany Agriculture Alliance Chairperson Julia Harnal, Managing Director Elina, Global GAP Director Christina Mueller, Deutschland Managing Director Peter Mueller, Additional Secretary to Bangladeshi Agricultural Ministry Md Ruhul Amin Talukdar and Minister for Bangladesh Embassy in Berlin Md Saiful Islam among others were present in the meeting.
Besides, Minister Razzak had a bilateral meeting with Canadian Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau.

Walton brings new CiNEd gaming monitors
Walton has launched two new CiNEd gaming monitors with IPS panels. These monitors can be used for different purposes, including gaming and graphic designs.
Touhidur Rahman Raad, chief business officer of Walton Digi-Tech Industries, said: "Modelled as WD27GI06 and WD27GI07, the new gaming monitors feature 27-inch QHD IPS LED-backlit display with 2560 and 1440 pixel resolution and frameless design on three sides."

Govt forms taskforce to monitor essentials' prices: Munshi
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said the government is forming a taskforce to monitor essentials' prices, and to conduct a nationwide drive against illegal hoarding.
The minister informed reporters of the development after an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon to set a work plan for reining in the prices of essential items, despite record food stocks in the government's warehouses.
Moreover, the Commerce Minister said that the number of TCB trucks selling essential goods in Dhaka has been increased to 150, from 50. Overall across the country, the number of such trucks will be increased to 1000 from 500.

After the two-hour meeting, Munshi told reporters that the impact of the Ukraine-Russia war had been felt in Bangladesh as well.
However, he also said many dishonest traders are taking advantage of this. Strict instructions have been given to the law enforcement agencies in the meeting to monitor markets so that prices do not get out of hand.

Top officials of the administration including Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Agriculture Minister Dr. Mohammad Abdur Razzaqu and Police Chief Benazir Ahmed were present at the meeting.
Recently, the prices of soybean oil, onion and other essential commodities have been rising uncontrollably.

There has been a huge reaction among the common people, who are not at all pleased to be confronted with such runaway inflation, before they could even recover fully from the pandemic's hit . People from all walks of life are expressing their anger. Various protest programs are also going on in the political arena over the issue.
