Student dies after being hit by IU teacher’s car
An 11-year-old student died after being hit allegedly by the car of a teacher of Islamic University in Kushtia on Thursday night.
The deceased Umme Rukaiya, daughter of Monohar Hossain, a resident of the village in the upazila, was a Class V student of Srirampur Government Primary School.Quoting local people, Shailkupa police station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam said that the accident took place on Kushtia-Jhenaidah Highway at noon as a speeding car of IU political science department chairperson Assistant Professor Sherina Khatun hit Rukaiya while she (Rukaiya) was returning home from school, leaving her seriously injured on the spot.
Later, local people rescued the injured and took her to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment where the attending doctors referred her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.
Rukaiya succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital in the night, the police official said.
An unnatural death case was lodged with Shailkupa police station in this connection, the OC added.
Sherina Khatun could not be reached over phone despite repeated attempts for her comment in this regard. She was in the car when the accident occurred.
Rukaiya, however, was buried at her family graveyard at Modondanga village in the upazila on Friday morning.

Ramjan defies poverty with GPA-5 at HSC, but his university education uncertain
Ramjan Ali's life has been a story of grim battle against poverty. He has worked as a helper in neighbours' homes before taking to driving a rickshaw van to earn for his family and pay for studies too.
The HSC results published on Wednesday gave Ramjan and his mother a rare occasion to celebrate.
He passed with the highest grade of GPA-5. A Humanities group student he appeared in the examination from Ranisainkal Degree College in Thakugaon under Dinajpur Education Board.
"I am overjoyed with my results," he said happily. "It is because of my struggling but determined mother I could achieve this success."
Ramjan was only three when his father died. The tragedy forced his mother to work as a househelp for survival with Ramjan and three other children. At one stage he also joined his mother to help her in the work. Later he started driving a rickshaw van to help the poverty-stricken family to survive.
"There had been days when I had to skip classes to be able to drive the van for an earning," said Ramjan. "Today I'm so happy that I've forgotten all my hardships."
His mother Monowara Begum is happy too.
"I've always believed that my son will do well in the HSC," she said. "He obtained 4.11 in the SSC too."
Monowara now dreams to send her son to university and do well there. Her son nods.
“I will assuage the hardships of my family and serve the country after obtaining a good job in future,” he said
Ranisankail Degree College Teacher Ahsan Habib expressing satisfaction said that meritorious Ramjan could attend the class one or two days a month.
“We also stayed by him earlier and it will continue in future,” the teacher assured.
Ranisankail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sohel Sultan Julkarnaine Kabir Steve said the upazila administration will give a hand to continue his studies.
Such an assurance is what Ramjan now badly needs to be able to get into university and continue his studies.
Despite his good grades the boy is still uncertain about his higher education.
"I could not attend any coaching class to be prepared for university admission exams," said Ramjan. "I may have to miss one year as I need to work and earn enough to pay for coaching before university admission."
A total of 10,11, 987 examinees, out of 11,77, 387, passed the 2022 exams under 11 education boards of the country.
Of them, 1,76,282 students secured the highest grade, GPA 5 this year.

Disbursement of secondary, higher secondary stipends for girls begins
The distribution of stipend money among the girls at secondary and higher secondary levels of educational institutions across the country was started through mobile banking on Thursday.
Education Minister Dipu Moni inaugurated the distribution at her ministry on Thursday.
The stipend beneficiaries will get a total over Tk 751.2 crore from the second instalment of July to December last year.
The financial assistance is provided by the ‘Integrated Stipends Programme’ under the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust.
Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Nowfel and Senior Secretary to Technical and Madrasha division Md Kamal Hossain, among others, were present there.
Secondary and Higher Secondary division Secretary Solaiman Khan chaired the programme where the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust Managing Director (additional secretary) Abdun Nur Muhammad Al Firoz delivered the welcome speech.
No charges are imposed for cashing out the stipend money using mobile financial services.

SUST student dies ‘by suicide’
A student of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) is suspected to have died by suicide at his own home early Thursday. The deceased was identified as Minhazul Abedin, a student of Mathematics Department of the university and a resident of Salamatpur village of Manirampur Upazila of Jashore district. SM Saidur Rahman, Assistant Professor of Mathmatics department of the university, said Minhajul Abedin, a student of 2016-17 session of our department, committed suicide at his home around 3am on Thursday. His mother informed the matter in the morning over phone, he said. However, Minhaz was founder president of university’s robotics related organization ‘Roboadda’.

Public universities to hold admission tests on short syllabus, hopes Dipu Moni
Public universities will hold admission tests for 2022-2023 session on short syllabus, hopes Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni.
“We discussed the matter with the vice-chancellors recently. We requested that they take this year’s admission tests based on revised syllabus of HSC examination,” she told reporters after announcing HSC results at International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka.
“We are hoping that all universities will implement this,” she said.
“Each university used to take admission test separately earlier. Many of them now held the examination under a uniform procedure,” she added.

Results of 2022 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations were published today. The average pass percentage is 85.95 percent.
A total of 10,11, 987 examinees, out of 11,77, 387, passed the 2022 exams under 11 education boards of the country. The number was 13,06,718 in 2021.

How to see your HSC 2022 result
The results of 2022 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations of 2022 are being published today. The results will be officially announced at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha, Dhaka at 12:30 pm.
The results will be uploaded on the website of the respective education boards from 11:30 am. From then onwards, anyone can check his/her result via mobile SMS and on the website with roll and registration numbers.
HOW TO GET 2022 HSC AND EQUIVALENT EXAM RESULTS ON MOBILE PHONE
To get the result through SMS, a candidate will have to send an SMS typing HSC, and then write the first three letters of the respective education board. Then write the roll number with a space and write the year of exam with another space. Finally send it to 16222. Result will be sent in return SMS.
Example: “HSC DHA 34**** 2022” and sent to 16222
HOW TO SEE ALIM RESULT
To get Alim result, write ALIM, and then write MAD with a space, and then write roll number with another space, write the year of exam and send to 16222.

Wait for 2022 HSC results to be over shortly
The wait of some 1,203,407 students will come to an end as results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations of 2022 will be published today.
The results will be officially announced at the International Mother Language Institute at Segunbagicha in the capital at 12:30pm, said Mohammad Abul Khayer, information and public relations officer of the Education Ministry on Tuesday.
HSC and equivalent exams were held from November 6 to December 13 last year.

The HSC, equivalent exams were held at 2,649 centers and 9,181 institutions across the country.

Another DU BCL activist accused of abusing girls
Fahim Tajwar Joy, a prominent activist of the ruling party student front Bangladesh Chhatra League Masterda Surja Sen Hall Chhatra League of Dhaka University has been accused of molesting a woman and her husband and looting money from them in front of central Shahid Minar.
In this regard, a case has been filed accusing Fahim and 10-12 unnamed people who participated in the looting.
Principal administrative Officer, Md. Abdul Motaleb, of Masterda Surja Sen Hall lodged the case against Fahim at the Shahbagh police station as his niece and her husband were the victims.
According to the complaint letter, "Riya and her husband Rasel were on the way to visit Abdul Motaleb's house from nearby Chawkbazar at 11 pm of February 4. When they were crossing throughout the frontier road of Shahid Minar, Fahim and his friends blocked their way, abused them verbally and beat them with sticks. At one point they took Rasel at the backside of Shahid Minar and snatched all money from him which counts TK 22000 and then they snatched ATM cards from him."
"They also molested my niece," the complaint said.
"Being informed, when my son Mehrab went to rescue them, Fahim and his friends beat me badly. Later, surrounding people came and saved us from them."
Contacted, OC of Shahbagh police station, Noor said, "We have received the case and we will investigate the matter."
Mentioned, Fahim is a posted member of Masterda Surja Sen Hall Chhatra League and follower of Abdulla Khan Shoisob who is a follower of Dhaka University Chhatra League General secretary Tanbir Hasan Saikat. Moreover, he is a student of department of History of 2021-22 session.

DU suspends two more students
Dhaka University suspended two students on Monday for involvement in illegal activity.
The suspended students are Tanjir Arafat Tushar, a student of department of International Relations of 2017-18 academic session. He is also a resident at Kabi Jashim Uddin Hall of Dhaka University. The other suspended student Rahul Roy is a student of the Law department of 2016-17 academic session and he is a resident student of Jagannath Hall.
Tanjir Arafat Tushar was posted as joint general secretary of Kabi Jashim Uddin Hall Chhatra League and Rahul Roy was vice-president of Jagannath Hall Chhatra League Unit.

The temporarily suspended students are asked to give a valid answer within the next seven working days on “why they would not be expelled for lifetime.”
Asked about the matter, DU proctor Prof. AKM Golam Rabbani told UNB that those students were involved in extortion, looting and abusing others. On the other hand, there are charges against them in the police station.
“As they violated the university’s disciplinary codes, we have decided to suspend them from the university,” he added.
