Police recovered the body of a 28-year-old man from a hotel room in New Market area in Rajshahi city on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Sabuj Kumar Adhikari, hailed from Atgharia village in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district. Hotel authorities said Sabuj was scheduled to check out on Saturday but when he did not leave the room at the scheduled time staff looked through the window and found his hanging body. Abul Kalam Azad, Officer-in-Charge of Boalia police station, said the hotel room door was locked from the inside. The body has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. An unnatural death case has been filed at the police station and the body will be handed over to the family after completion of legal procedures.

Two motorcycle riders were killed after a speeding bus crashed into them in the Jagahati area of Sadar Upazila on the Jashore–Chaugachha road on Saturday night. The deceased were identified as Selim Hossain, 35, son of Afil Uddin of Alisa Jadunathpur village in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah, and Ibrahim Hossain, 38, son of Tahajjal Hossain. Police said the victims were heading towards Jashore town when, around 8:45 pm, a bus coming from the opposite direction rammed into their motorcycle. Both men died on the spot. The bus fled immediately after the collision. On information, personnel from the Sajiali police outpost and the Fire Service recovered the bodies and sent them to the morgue of Jashore 250-bed General Hospital. SI Abdur Rouf, in charge of the Sajiali outpost, said efforts are underway to collect CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the fleeing bus and its driver. The process of handing over the bodies to their families is in progress, he added.

Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country was suspended on Saturday night after an oil tanker wagon of a freight train derailed in the Mollikpur area of Fenchuganj upazila. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm, said Enayet Karim, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Railway Police Station. According to railway sources, a wheel of the Sylhet-bound freight train’s wagon suddenly derailed, halting train traffic on the Sylhet-Dhaka-Chattogram route. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. A relief train has been dispatched from Kulaura Shed to recover the derailed wagon. Sylhet Railway Station Manager Mohammad Nurul Islam said the rail services with Sylhet will remain suspended until rescue and repair operations are completed. As a result, Udayan and Upaban Express will not depart Sylhet Station until the line is cleared.

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Gayeshpur border in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district on Saturday. The BSF took away his body after the shooting. The dead man was identified as Shahidul Islam, 37, son of Noskor Ali from Gayeshpur village. According to locals, Shahidul and five or six others entered India near main pillar 70 in the afternoon. 2 killed in Chuadanga road crash Members of the BSF 32 Battalion opened fire on them, leaving Shahidul dead on the spot. The others ran back into Bangladesh. Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Alam, commander of BGB Maheshpur 58 Battalion, said, “The incident took place around 50 yards inside India. The initial report suggests they had gone there to bring drugs. Contact is underway with the BSF to bring the body back.”  

Two people, including a woman, died in separate incidents in Raigonj Upazila of Sirajganj on Saturday, police said. A woman was killed and her granddaughter seriously injured when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in overturned on Baikunthapur Bridge, said Masud Rana, Officer-in-Charge of Raigonj Police Station. The victim, Rahima Begum, 50, was the wife of Ismail Hossain of Monohorpur village. She was travelling with her granddaughter to her daughter’s home. Later, police recovered her body and handed it over to her family. ASI dies after falling ill in Sirajganj In a separate incident, Sanjay Kumar, 29, died after coming into contact with an electric wire while irrigating a pond in Kheyailar village in the morning. Kumar, the son of Ranjit Kumar from Sherpur Upazila in Bogura, was taken to the hospital morgue after police recovered his body. A case has been filed at the relevant police station in connection with the incident.  

Thirty people were injured in sporadic clashes between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Balia Bazar in Saltha upazila of Faridpur district on Saturday. KM Maruf Haan Russel, officer-in-charge of Saltha Police Station, said Zahid Matubbar and Nuru Matabbar had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area. As a sequel to the enmity, the supporters of both groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other in phases at Balia Bazar, leaving 30 people injured. The clashes took place between 6 am to 12 pm on Saturday. Hundreds of people from 20 villages including Balia Gatti, Aruakandi, Jhunakhali, Member Gatti, Bhabukdia, Songhaprotab, Gatti Kanuir, Diapara, Joyjhap, Aguldia, Morhat got involved in the clashes. Section 144 imposed in Faridpur Valuables of 20 houses were looted during the melee. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation.    

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) died while on duty at Shahjadpur Police Station in Sirajganj early Saturday. The deceased, Aktar Hossain, 38, son of Ansar Ali of Kanchanpur village in Jhenaidah Sadar, had joined Shahjadpur Police Station about a year ago. Aslam Ali, officer-in-charge of the station, said Hossain suddenly fell ill on Friday afternoon. He was first taken to a local clinic and later shifted to Enayetpur Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College & Hospital as his condition deteriorated. Doctors there detected severe complications in his kidneys and liver. His body has been handed over to his family.  

Two candidates were detained at an examination centre in Rangpur after being caught with electronic devices during a recruitment test for the post of ‘Assistant Sub-Food Inspector’ under Directorate General of Food, on Saturday afternoon. They were subsequently sentenced to 20 days in jail by a mobile court in Rangpur. The convicted candidates were sent to Rangpur Jail following legal procedures. The sentenced individuals are Idris Ali Akand (30), son of Abdul Bari Mia from Muriyadho village under Sadullapur police station in Gaibandha, and Sajjadul Islam (24), son of Ershadul from Maltibari village under Ulipur police station in Kurigram. According to OC Azad Rahman of Rangpur Metropolitan Haragachh Police Station, the examination was held on Saturday (Nov 29) across 77 centers in Rangpur city. During the exam, Idris Ali was caught using an electronic device in his ear at Maynakuti Senior Alim Madrasa center under Haragachh police station, while Sajjadul Islam was apprehended at Gulalbudai High School center. Both candidates were found with electronic digital devices. Following the legal proceedings, the two convicted candidates were sent to Rangpur Jail on Saturday evening, the OC confirmed.    

Two people were killed and two others seriously injured Friday afternoon when a passenger bus collided with a truck carrying bricks on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Daudkandi, Cumilla police said. The accident occurred in the Hugulia area of Daudkandi while a Starline bus traveling toward Chattogram struck a truck coming from the opposite direction. One of the deceased was identified as Tafazzal Hossain, 45, son of the late Fazlul Haque from Bakrikandi village in Chandina upazila. The second victim, Khorshid, 40, has not yet been identified. Pick-up van torched in Cumilla SI Zakir Hossain of Daudkandi Highway Thana Police said the bodies were taken to the Police Station. The bus driver and his assistant fled the scene, and the bus has been taken into police custody.    

A teenager was killed in Sylhet’s Badambagicha area late Thursday (Nov. 27) following a clash between two groups. The victim, Shah Mahmud Hasan Tapu, 17, was the son of Shah Enamul Haque and lived in Udayan 40/2, Badambagicha, Sylhet. Police said the conflict between the groups escalated around 11:30 p.m., when a member of one faction, Mohammad Zahid Hasan, son of Shafiqul Islam from Khasdobir area, stabbed Tapu repeatedly. Tapu was taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital by family members but died at 6 a.m. Friday. Schoolgirl found hanging in cowshed in Sylhet Following the incident, police conducted a raid and detained Zahid along with two of his associates — Anik Mia, son of Abdul Monir from Loharpara, and Juned Ahmad, son of Bashirul Islam. Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Syed Anisur Rahman said the victim’s body has been sent to Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. No formal complaints have yet been filed in the case, but legal proceedings are underway.
