Three kids drown in Dinajpur, Kurigram
Three children drowned in Dinajpur and Kurigram districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In Dinajpur, two minors drowned in the Atrai River.
The deceased are Jitu 12, daughter of Jewel of Fakirganj of Nilphamari and Bhulanath, son of Bhupati Roy of Kachharipara village under Birganj upazila.
Khansama fire service station officer Talha Bin Jasim said Jitu drowned in the river while he was bathing Wednesday afternoon.
On information, firefighters conducted a drive and recovered the body of the teenage girl.
Jitu came to her maternal grandfather's house on Eid vacation, he added.

Earlier in the day, fishermen recovered the body of Bhulanath, who went missing in the Atrai river at Kalarghat on Tuesday.
He also came to his maternal grandfather's house.
In Kurigram, a child drowned in a hole filled with water which was dug for installing a tube well in Ulipur upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
Relatives said Raihan Mia, son of Rezaul Islam, of Tabakpur union under the upazila, came to his maternal grandfather's house on Eid vacation. The child drowned while he was playing.
He was rushed to Ulipur upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead, said Maidul Islam, RMO of the health complex.

CU student killed in Kolkata road accident
A student of Chittagong University has been killed and her mother, a teacher of the university, severely injured in a road accident in Kolkata.
The deceased was identified as Shajmila Jismam Moon, a third year student of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) of CU.
The injured was Moon’s mother Dr Shirin Ara Chowdhury Doly, a Professor of Management department of CU.

According to family sources, Moon and her elder brother Lieutenant Safwan Jasir Chowdhury took their mother Doly to India on July 8 for health check-ups. They were schedule to go to Delhi on July 10.
“Moon and her mother were hit by a speedy bus while they were crossing a road on July 10. Both of them were rushed to Kolkata PG hospital where Moon breathed her last on July 12,” said Jashim Uddin Chowdhury, Moon’s father and former Vice President of AB Bank.
Jashim added that his wife is still in a critical condition and the process to bring Moon’s body back is underway.

SSC examinee’s throat-slit body found in Bhola
Police recovered the throat-slit body of a 17-year old SSC examinee from Ali Nagar union in Sadar upazila of Bhola on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Obaidur Rahman, of the upazila. He was an SSC examinee from Pashchim Ruhita Secondary School and used to work as an electrician.
Locals said Obaidur remained missing since Tuesday night.

Locals spotted the throat-slit body of Obaidur from a betel nut garden near his house in Ruhita village this morning and informed police, said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) (Sadar circle) Farhad Sarder.
The body was later sent to Bhola Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Besides, processes are underway to file a case in this regard, said Arman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhola Model police station.

Two killed as bike ploughs into pedestrians in Ctg
A housewife riding pillion on her husband's bike and a differently abled woman pedestrian died after the biker ploughed into two passersby in Chattogram district on Wednesday.
The identities of the deceased couldn’t be known yet.
The accident occurred in Sitakunda when the biker crashed into two pedestrians while trying to save his wife from falling off after he lost control of the speeding two-wheeler, police said.
The differently abled woman died on the spot, while the biker's wife died during treatment at a hospital.
The biker and another pedestrian also sustained serious injuries in the crash, and are being treated at Imperial Hospital, said Nazmul Haque, officer In-charge of Baro Auliya highway police station.

Fire breaks out at Gazipur warehouse
A fire broke out at a scrap material warehouse in the Dewliyabari area of Gazipur on Wednesday morning, officials said.
According to the deputy director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence, Abdul Hamid Mia, four firefighting units were working to douse the flames.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he said.

Two motorcyclists killed in Manikganj road crash
Two youths were killed and another was injured in a road accident at Kaliganga Bridge of Manikganj on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Juel Mia, an honours third-year student of Debendra University College and his friend motorcycle businessman Ashiqur Rahman, residents of Rathura village under Ghior upazila of the district.
Eyewitnesses said a Selfie Paribahan bus ran over a motorcycle from behind on the Dhaka-Aricha highway leaving two motorcyclists Juel Mia and Ashiqur Rahman dead on the spot and injuring another around 10:30pm.
Injured motorcyclist Hasibur Rahman was taken to Munnu Medical College Hospital.

Following the accident, an agitated mob vandalized a few buses of the Selfie Paribahan. On information, police brought the situation under control by charging batons.
Later, agitated people torched a bus at Baniajuri around 11:30pm. Being informed, firefighters doused the bus blaze.
Ghior police station officer-in-charge Riazuddin Ahmed Biplab confirmed the matter to UNB.

1 killed, 15 injured as villagers clash in Magura
A 55-year-old person was killed and 15 others were injured in a series of clashes between two groups of villagers at Sarainagar-Khordarhua village of Sreepur upazila in Magura, over the past two days.
The deceased was identified as Alauddin Fakir, resident of Khordarhua village. He died on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the clash began on Sunday night regarding some trivial issues between supporters of two rivals, Faridul Islam Mollah, a former UP member of the Srikol union and Bakkar Mollah, the current UP member, villagers claimed.
According to them, at least 15 people were injured, while 25 houses and shops were vandalised and looted during the clash.
The injured were admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital. Krishna Das Biswas, emergency department doctor from the hospital said that the critically injured were sent to Faridpur Medical College for advanced treatment.
Preton Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Sreepur police said that situation had been brought under control, after police were informed. Twelve people arrested over the issue were produced to the court, he said.
A murder case was filed at Sreepur police station and additional police were deployed in the area to keep the situation under control, he added

Teenager dies of electrocution in Kishoreganj
A teenaged boy died after coming in contact with an electrical line at Panschim Sharifpur village in Kishoreganj's Mithamoin upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Babul Mia, 16, son of expatriate Islam Uddin, resident of Saudi Arabia, at Gopdighi union.
Quoting locals, police said Babul came in contact with a live electric wire while repairing it.
Locals rescued him and sent him to Mithamoin upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.

Flood in Sunamganj: Siblings spend 17 days on a tree
Two siblings spent 17 days on the branches of a tree as flood water washed away their house at Dhalagaon village in Sunamganj.
The ill-fated siblings are Julekha, 22 and Rakib, 13. The orphans used to live in their ancestral home in Shimulbak union under Shantiganj upazila of the district.
Locals said the siblings' parents passed away many years ago.
On June 17, their only small house made from bamboo, and all their belongings were washed away by the flood water. Seeing no means, the orphans took shelter in the branches of a tree and spent 17 days there.
"Those days were horrific. We spent 17 days on a tree at a stretch which was a nightmare for us. Sometimes we had no food. We have spent the days without enough food and pure drinking water with fear," Julekha said, describing their ordeal.

BSF arrest Bangladeshi youth from Kaliganj border
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) arrested a 25-year-old Bangladeshi national from along the Khamarbhati border in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat on Tuesday.
The arrestee is Naimul Islam, resident of Khamarbhati area under Chandrapur union of the upazila.
Locals claimed him to be involved in drug smuggling across the border.
He was arrested near the main pillar-913 at Khamarbhati border area by the Chitra camp battalion of BSF with bottles of Phensedyl, said locals.
Lt. Colonel Ahmed Bazlur Rahman, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed that they have heard that a Bangladeshi youth was captured by the Indian BSF.
BGB would go into a conversation with BSF in this regard, he said.
