Schoolgirl killed in Kushtia after she falls off father’s motorbike: Police
An 11-year-old school student was crushed to death by a speeding truck after she fell off the pillion of a motorbike her father was riding in Kushtia’s Mirpur upazila on Friday, police said.
The deceased Toya Khatun along with her mother sat on the pillion of the bike as her father Mokarram Munshi was driving it on way to a relative’s house, police said.

The accident took place at around 11 am in on Kushtia-Ishwardi highway of Ranakharia Shimultala Balughat area in Talbaria union of Mirpur upazila, according to Talbaria police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Shama Prasad Roy.
The girl fell off the pillion when they reached Balughat area. She was hit by a truck coming from behind and died on the spot, Shama said.

The body was recovered from the spot and sent to the morgue of Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy, he added.

Number cloned: Ask for extortion money from OC’s phone in Dinajpur
The officer-in-charge of Dinajpur's Nawabganj police station has said that a gang has cloned his mobile phone number 01320136651 to use it for extortion of money from the public.
OC Ferdous Wahid said on Friday he is no longer using the number. He asked people not to pay any money if someone calls from the number.

The fraudsters’ gang is carrying out such activities ahead of the local union council elections, he said.
Using the number, the gang can commit various illegal activities including criminal acts, fraud, threats, blackmail and more.
The police administration has requested everyone to be vigilant in this regard.

“We are warning the concerned people not to give money to anyone over that number. We are also trying to identify the culprits and take legal action against them”, he said

Chattogram Test: Tigers lose early wickets
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh lost four early wickets in the first session of the Chattogram Test against Pakistan at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday.
Saif Hassan fell for 14, and his opening partner Shadman Islam, and number three Najmul Hossain Shanto also returned to the dressing room at 14 each. Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque followed suit, at 6.
At lunch, Bangladesh were batting at 69 for four with Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das were unbeaten for 5 and 11, respectively.

Bangladesh handed the Test cap to Yasir Ali. The right-handed batter has been in the Test team for a long time but did not get his Test cap. Finally, in his native town, Yasir's dreams came true.
Yasir played a total of 57 first-class matches and scored 3,980 runs at an average of 50.37, with nine centuries and 25 fifties.
The hosts fielded four specialists bowlers -- two pacers and two spinners. Abu Jayed will lead the pace bowling attack and Ebadot Hossain will accompany him, while Taijul Islam will lead the spin attack, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz will complement him.
Pakistan also inducted top-order batter Abdullah Shafique into Test cricket. He played three first-class matches and scored 259 runs with two centuries. Before getting his Test cap, Shafique played three T20Is.
It’ll be marked as Bangladesh’s 21st Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. In the last 20 matches, Bangladesh won only two at this venue.

Before this Test, Bangladesh played 11 Tests against Pakistan and lost 10 of them, with the other match ending up in a draw.

5 Ctg jail officials in the dock over custodial torture of lifer
The wife of a lifer has approached a court in the port city accusing five officials, including the senior superintendent of Chattogram Central Jail, of torturing her husband.
Parvin Akter, the wife of murder convict Md Shamim, filed the complaint against the five in the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan on Thursday. The hearing is slated for Tuesday, said bench secretary Md Bakhtiar.
Those named in the complaint are senior jail superintendent Shafiqul Islam, jailor Dewan Mohammad Tariqul Islam, deputy jailor Md Saimur, and jail guards Sabuj Dash and Md Emdad Hossani.

According to the complaint, Shamim was admitted to Chattogram jail hospital on July 17. However, when he demanded food, the five jail officials beat him up. And next day, he was shifted to Cumilla Central Jail.
On November 11, during routine attendance, Shamim apprised the Chattogram court of his alleged ordeal.
Senior jail superintendent Shafiqul could not be contacted.

On April 24, 2007, Shamim was sentenced to death in a murder case. However, five years later, a higher court commuted his sentence to life imprisonment.

Chattogram man beaten to death with cricket bat; 2 held
A 56-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with a cricket bat in the Chandgaon area of Chattogram city Thursday.
"Md Yakub, 56, was brutally assaulted with a bat over a brawl with his neighbour. Police held Nabil and his father Akkas in connection with the incident," Moinur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandgaon Police Station, said.
The father and son used a cricket bat to thrash Yakub, alleging that he broke down the wooden barrier they had put up on the road next to the entrance of their house, the OC added.

Yakub fell unconscious on the ground and had to be rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Two men were held in connection with the incident, and inquiries continue against two more, Moinur said.

A bus strikes 2 people to death at Chattogram
Two people were killed on Thursday after being hit by a Hanif Paribahan bus on Chattogram-Khagrachari road at Hathazari upazila, police said.
One of the deceased was identified as Jabed, a resident of the Hamzarbagh area while another remained unidentified, said Muktar Ahmed inspector of Hathazari highway police.
The identities of two other people who sustained injuries and are currently being treated at a local hospital could not be known yet either, he said.
The accident occurred around 8 pm as a bus of Hanif Paribahan hit an auto-rickshaw coming from opposite side while recklessly overtaking in front of City Center building at Katirhat Bazar area, said witnesses.
One of the two people who died on the spot was an auto-rickshaw passenger and another was a cyclist, they said.
Police have recovered the two bodies from the spot, said the inspector.

Woman's body found in Chattogram septic tank
Police recovered the decomposed body of an unidentified woman from the septic tank of a house in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram on Thursday noon.
Jewel, a domestic help, spotted the body around 10am when he went down to clean the septic tank.

On information, police recovered the body.
Md Azharuddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhujpur police station said they visited the spot and found the decomposed body of the woman aged between 32-35 inside the septic tank.
The body was sent for an autopsy, the OC added.

Love transcends all: Mexican woman flies to Bangladesh to marry Jamalpur man
A Mexican woman has flown over 15,000 km to arrive in Bangladesh to marry her heartthrob, a man of Jamalpur district.
Gladys Niley Toribio Morales, a 32-year-old daughter of a Mexican businessman, converted from Christianity to Islam to tie the knot with 29-year-old Robiul Islam Ruman last week.
Like in many other instances Facebook has played the matchmaker.
Robiul, a freelance diploma mechanic from Pogladigha village at Sharishabari in Jamalpur district met with Morales, a graduate from Meritorious Autonomous University in the Mexican city of Puebla, on Facebook in 2019.

After a few days of chats and exchange of personal photos the two could not resist from falling in love.
As the relationship deepened Morales proposed to marry Robiul to which he immediately said “Yes.’
The wedding was delayed by the pandemic that has prevented Morales to come to the land of her sweetheart.
Finally, their long and anxious wait ended at 8:30 am on November 21 when Morales landed at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
After welcoming the would-be in-law Robiul’s family immediately drove her to Dhaka Judge's Court, where she converted to Islam and got married with her long-distance boyfriend.

Morales, now known as Laili Akhter, is living at her in-law’s house in Pogaldigha village where locals are gathering every day to see the Mexican bride.
She said she is overwhelmed with happiness after being with Robiul following two years of courtship.
“People here are very friendly and the country is very beautiful,” Morales said.
She said she will stay in the in-laws for some time before returning to her family to Mexico where Robiul will join her after completing all formaligties.
About her new bride Robiul said, “I can’t believe she is finally here in Bangladesh. She is a very simple and quiet woman. I’m happy and my family also likes her very much.”

AL election campaign office torched in Satkhira
Miscreants torched an election campaign office of Awami League at Nalta union in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira disctrict early Thursday.
Police said the incident occurred around 3 am at Paschim Paikara of Ward 7 of Nalta Union.

Abul Hossain Par, AL-backed chairman candidate in Nalta Union, alleged that workers and supporters of independent candidate Azizur Rahman set fire to the election office, photos of Bangabandhu and the Prime Minister at night.
He alleged that some accused in a sabotage case have come out of jail on bail and have been threatening the workers and supporters of AL on behalf of independent candidate Azizur Rahman.
However, Azizur Rahman, the current chairman of Nalta Union Parishad and an independent candidate, refuted the allegation saying that this heinous act was planned by AL-backed candidate’s supporters as a plot to harass his workers.
Azizur Rahman also alleged that AL activists have been threatening people not to vote for anyone except for ‘Boat’ symbol.

“They deliberately set fire to the photos of Bangabandhu and the Prime Minister and circulated that the election office had been set on fire,” added Azizur.
Golam Mostafa, Officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, said they visited the election office.

3 college students dead in Chandpur bus-auto collision
Three college students were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the Bishwa road area of Chandpur's Kachua upazila early on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Urmi Majumder (24), Rifat Hossain (22), and Saddam Hossain (28). All the deceased were students of Cumilla Victoria College and residents of Kachua upazila.

Eye-witnesses said the accident occurred around 8am when the Dhaka-bound BRTC bus hit the Cumilla-bound auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in the Bishwa road area.
The impact of the crash was such that two students travelling in the auto died on the spot while three others, including its driver, sustained injuries, police said.

The injured were rushed to Kachua Upazila Health Complex where another student was declared dead on arrival.
Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge of the Kachua police station, said both the vehicles have been seized. "A probe is on."
