Mob beats 2 women suspected of gold chain snatching, one dies: Police
A mob lynched a woman and injured another on suspicion that they were snatchers, police said on Monday.
The mob attack on the women occurred on Sunday at Boro Balmantachar in Nawabganj upazila in Dhaka, according to police.
The dead had been identified as Runa Akter, 45, wife of Purok Mia of Nasirbag in Brahmanbaria district.
The second woman identified as Popy, 20 was undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.

The two women snatched a gold chain from Zahura Begum, a resident of Boro Balmantarchar village, as she was waiting in a queue for taking Covid jabs at a local centre on Sunday afternoon, said Sirajul Islam Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Nawabganj Police Station,
Zahura’s husband Hazrat Ali caught the two women with the help of local people.
The two females were taken to the house of Zuhra, where they were mercilessly beaten, also joined by local people.

Runa was declared dead by doctors after the badly mauled women were taken to a local hospital. Her body was sent to Mitford hospital on Monday for post-mortem.
Police arrested Zuhra while her husband Hazrat Ali escaped.
The OC said legal action will be taken against those involved in the mob-beating.

3 killed in Habiganj road crash
Three people, including two minor siblings, were killed and five others were injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw overturned after being hit by a bus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Andiura in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Mosharraf, 3, and Shahinur Akhter Rumpa, 7, — children of Abdul Kuddus of Rasulpur village in the upazila and Madhu Das, 35, son of Ajit Das of Bijoynagar upazila of the district.
Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sayestaganj Highway Police Station, said Bilkis, wife of Abdul Kuddus, along with Mosharraf and Rumpa and her brother-in-law Abdul Jabbar, 28 was heading towards Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex by the auto-rickshaw as Mosharraf was sick.

Three more people, including Madhu Das, Abdullah and Mahmuda, wife of Salek Mia, were also there in the auto-rickshaw with them.
When the auto-rickshaw reached Andiura Ummatnesa High School, the Sylhet-bound bus of ‘Sagarika Paribahan’ hit it, leaving Mosharraf and Madhu dead on the spot and six others injured.
The injured were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared Rumpa dead.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to the local hospital morgue.

15 hurt in police-Jubo Dal men clash in B’baria
Fifteen people were injured in a clash between police and some leaders and activists of Jubo Dal at Anantapur in Kasba upazila headquarters on Monday.
Witnesses said Masudul Haque Bhuiya, convener of upaizla unit Jubo Dal, along with his supporters brought out a procession over the approval of the new committee of Kasba Upazila and Municiplaity units in the morning.

When the procession reached in front of Adra Anantapur Government Primary School police obstructed it.
At one stage, the activists of Jubo Dal threw brickbats targeting police, triggering a chase and counter-chase.
Bureau chief of eastern region ATN News, Pijush Kanti Acharya and Somoy TV photo journalist Jewelur Rahman were among the injured.

Alamgir Bhuiya, officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station, said as the Jubo Dal leaders brought out the procession without prior permission police dispersed them.

Mother, daughter killed in Magura road crash
A woman and her daughter were killed in a collision between a truck and a three wheeler on Magura-Shalikha road at Junary in Shalikha upazila of Magura district on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Sharifa Khatun, 30, wife of Ibadul Islam of Kulum village of the upazila and her 10-month-old daughter Khadiza.

Two other passengers were also injured in the accident.
Police said when Sharifa along with her daughter was going to Shalika upazila headquarter in a rickshaw van the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit their vehicle around 10am, leaving the two dead on the spot.

Police seized the killer truck and detained the helper of the truck. The truck driver managed to escape.
Tarak Nath Biswas, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station, said a case was filed in this regard.

Businessman found dead in Chattogram
A businessman was found dead in his under-construction building at Jalalabad in Khulshi area of Chattogram on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Nezam Pasha, 65, son of Abdur Rashid of Fatikchhari upazila.

Mohammad Shahinuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Khulshi Police Station, said local people found the body of Nezam on the ground floor of the under-construction building and informed the matter to police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital.
The body bore several injury marks, said police.
Nezam remained missing since he went to the building area on Sunday for clearing the wages of the construction workers.

However, the victim’s family claimed that some extortionists had demanded money from him and they also issued death threat.

Ex-bank official found dead in Barishal
Police on Monday recovered the body of a retired bank official from a house in Barishal town.
The deceased was identified as Saleha Begum, 67, who was a Principal Officer of Sonali Bank.

Sources of Police said Saleha Begum used to live on West Kaunia Hawladar Road in the town with her younger daughter Suchi, a service holder.
On Sunday night, Suchi, who was out of the town, phoned their neighbor as she couldn’t reach her mother over phone.
Their neighbor Helena went to Saleha’s house on Sunday morning along with another person but did not get any response even after pressing the calling bell. Then, they peeped through the window and saw her lying on the floor.

On information, police recovered the body.
Md Azimul Karim, officer-in-charge of Kaunia police station, said no injuries were found on her body. “It might be a natural death,” he said.

Mother attempts suicide after ‘killing son’ in Laxmipur
A woman tried to kill herself hanging from the ceiling allegedly after killing her four-year-old son at her house at Laharkandi village in Sadar upazila of Laxmipur district Sunday midnight.
The deceased was identified as Ayan Rahman, son of Ajgar Rahman, an expatriate.

Quoting local people, Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Sabina Yasmin along with her son Ayan used to live at the rented house of one Hafiz Kha as her husband is a Saudi expatriate.
The couple used to fight over family issues over phone.
At one stage of altercation on Sunday night, Sabina took her son to her room and locked it.

Hearing sound of groaning from the room, local people, her father-in-law and brother-in-law broke open the room and found Sabina trying to hang herself from the ceiling of the house with a scarf.
They also found Ayan’s slaughtered body on the bed.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital morgue for autopsy.

Child crushed under truck in Gazipur
A seven-year-old child was crushed under the wheels of a truck on Kapasia-Gazipur road near Chandpur village in Kapasia upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rafin, son of Monir Paloan of Chandpur village in the upazila.
Police said the Dhaka-bound truck hit Rafin on his way to a madrasa around 7am, leaving the child dead on spot.

Later, police handed over the body to the deceased’s family.
SI Mizanur Rahman of Kapasia Police Station said they seized the killer truck from Ajmotpur area of Kaliganj but the driver managed to escape.

Farmer stabbed dead in Lalmonirhat
A 42-year-old farmer was stabbed to death by some miscreants at Teesta barrage Doani in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Malek, son of Abdul Barek of Doani area of Goddimari Union.

Police said some unidentified miscreants attacked Malek and stabbed him mercilessly when he was sitting alone in front of the house at night, leaving him dead on the spot.
Lalmonirhat Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (B-Circle) Tapash Sarkar said police is interrogating the deceased’s family to find motive behind the murder.

Narail school teacher and 5th-grader son contract Covid-19
A primary school teacher and her son, a student of class five, have been infected with Covid-19.
Salma Yasmin, teacher of Narail South East Government Primary School was infected with Covid-19 on September 14 and her son Tahmid Ahmed got infected last Thursday.
Both of them are staying at home in isolation and are in good condition, said the school authority.
Both of them went into isolation as soon as Salma came out positive and avoided coming to school, said principal of the school Nur Jahan.
“None of the other teachers or students contracted the virus after them. We are conducting the classes according to the government health rules after informing the higher health authorities,” she said.
Meanwhile, District Civil Surgeon Dr Nasima Aktar said they were not informed of any teachers or students being infected with Covid-19 after reopening of schools on September 12.
Necessary arrangements will be made after collecting the information, said the Civil Surgeon.
