Salesman murdered in Keraniganj
A 25-year-old man was killed in broad daylight by unidentified miscreants in South Keraniganj of Dhaka on Saturday.
The victim, Sagir, was the son of Amir Hossain of Subhadya Uttarpara. He worked as a salesman at a clothing shop in the city’s Islampur area.
Syed Muhammad Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station, said the incident took place around 9:30 am on Saturday in front of Sudhar’s house in the Chunkutiya Nazirerbagh area.
The miscreants slit Sagir’s throat with a sharp weapon and fled the scene.
Auto-rickshaw driver killed by muggers in Kamrangirchar
Locals discovered the body on the road and informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, police recovered the body around 2:00 pm and sent it to the Mitford Hospital morgue.
Sagir’s family said he got married eight years ago and had a six-year-old daughter.
According to the family, the killing was allegedly linked to an extramarital affair, as Sagir had divorced his wife over her alleged relationship with another man.
Police are preparing to file a murder case in this regard, added the OC.

2 killed in car-motorbike collision in Sunamganj
Two people were killed as a motorbike crashed into a car on Sylhet-Sunamganj regional highway in front of a food warehouse in Shantiganj upazila of Sunamganj on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as motorcyclists Md Jewel Mia, son of Wahid Ali of Saudergaon village in Doarabazar upazila and Md Shobdar Ali, son of late Abdur Razzak of Hasannagar Moynar Point in Sunamganj municipality.
Two killed in separate road accidents in Feni
Locals said the accident took place around 11:30 am when the motorbike heading towards Jagannathpur collided with the Sunamganj-bound private car, leaving Jewel Mia dead on spot.
Shobdar Ali succumbed to his injuries on the way to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, said Joykolosh Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Suman Kumar Chowdhury .

Schoolboy dies after touching live electrical wire in Jashore orchard
A schoolboy died after being electrocuted in Sharsha upazila of Jashore on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Russell Hossain, 14, son of Anarul Mondol of Setai village under Goga union and an eighth-grade student of Setai ACI United High School.
The accident took place around 10 am when Russell went to collect firewood with his friends in a local mango orchard.
While picking broken branches, he accidentally touched a live electric wire passing through the orchard and fell unconscious.
Civil staff caught with marijuana at Jashore Central Jail
He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Abdul Alim, Officer-in-Charge of Sharsha Police Station, said, “An unnatural death case has been filed. As the family raised no complaint, the body has been handed over to them for burial”.

Schoolgirl dies from snakebite in Thakurgaon
A schoolgirl died after being bitten by a snake in Thakurgaon early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sangita Roy, 13, daughter of Gurudas Roy of Masandangi village in Paria union of Baliadangi upazila. She was an eighth grader at Lohagara High School.
Family members said Sangita was bitten on the head by a snake while she was asleep at home in the early hours of Thursday. Initially, the family failed to understand the severity of the bite. They took her to a local exorcist for nearly five hours to perform rituals, but when her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to Thakurgaon 250-bed General Hospital.
On-duty doctors said by the time she was brought to the hospital, it was too late to save her life as the venom had already spread.
Sangita’s last rites were performed later in the day.

Father, daughter among 3 killed in Mirsarai road accident
Three people, including a man and his young daughter, were killed and three others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Mirsarai upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Golam Sarwar, 40, his four-year-old daughter Muskan, and Sagor, 25, of Nikli upazila in Kishoreganj.
The injured are Sarwar’s wife Umme Salma, 32, their son Ahmed Imtiaz, 9, and driver Gias Uddin, 30. All the victims were residents of Uttara’s Sector 10 in Dhaka.
Police and locals said the Chattogram-bound private car from Dhaka lost control and rammed into a stationary covered van from behind at Thakur Dighi area of Jorarganj around 8 am.
Sarwar and his daughter Muskan died on the spot, while Sagor succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Relatives said Sagor worked at a furniture factory in Chattogram city and often traveled the Dhaka-Chattogram route for official purposes.
Jorarganj Highway Police Sub-Inspector Borhan Uddin said the bodies are in police custody.
Shafayat Hossain, station officer of Mirsarai Fire Service, said the private car (Dhaka Metro Gha-13-7348) was completely mangled in the crash, which is suspected to have occurred as the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Two killed in separate road accidents in Feni
Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Feni on Friday.
The incidents occurred near the Chhonia Union Parishad gate and in front of the Rural Electrification Board office on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
The deceased were identified as Ahmed Sharif, 38, son of late Abu Yusuf of Bejbag village in Senbag upazila of Noakhali, and Md Ibrahim, 34, son of Md Mostafa of Paschim Rampur in Feni municipality.
Police said Sharif was critically injured around 12 pm when a motorbike he was riding was hit by a bus on the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway near the Chhonia Union Parishad gate. He was taken to Feni General Hospital by Fajilpur Highway Police, where doctors declared him dead.
Earlier, around 2 am on Friday, locals spotted an overturned CNG-run auto-rickshaw in a roadside bush near the Rural Electrification Board office and informed police. Driver Ibrahim, who was returning home after refueling from Lalpool, was killed when an unidentified vehicle rammed his auto-rickshaw, leaving it mangled.
Mahipal Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Harun-or-Rashid said the bodies have been kept at the Feni General Hospital morgue for autopsy, adding that legal steps will be taken over the incidents.

Khulna City Corporation announces Tk 719.50cr budget for FY26
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has announced a budget of Tk 719.50 crore for the fiscal year 2025–26.
Divisional Commissioner and KCC Administrator Md Firoz Sarkar unveiled the budget at the Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban on Thursday.
According to the proposal, revenue income (including previous balance) has been estimated at Tk 455.93 crore, while government grants are projected at Tk 130.28 crore.
In addition, Tk 133.28 crore has been allocated for special development projects. Revenue expenditure has been set at Tk 277.65 crore.
Last fiscal year (2024–25), the budget target was Tk 981.99 crore, but the revised budget stood at Tk 618.25 crore, with an achievement rate of 62.96 percent.
Highlighting the budget’s features, the administrator said no new taxes have been imposed this year. Instead, revenue will be increased by collecting arrear municipal taxes, bringing new establishments under the existing tax net, and expanding internal sources of income.
He described the budget as development-oriented, focusing on road and drainage improvements, waterlogging prevention, waste management, expansion of civic services, dengue prevention, mosquito control, religious and educational institutions, parks, roads, modernization of KCC offices, improved accountability, and enhanced healthcare services. Plans also include constructing a memorial in honor of martyrs of August 2024 and earlier.
The administrator said that after meeting establishment costs, Tk 114.89 crore has been earmarked from KCC’s own fund for various development sectors.
Of this, Tk 100.23 crore has been allocated for public works, BMDF, infrastructure, street lighting, education, sports and culture, social welfare, environment, public health, veterinary and conservancy services.
Additionally, Tk 14.66 crore is set aside for repair and maintenance, and Tk 7.90 crore for capital expenditure. Another Tk 55 crore has been earmarked for ADP allocations, including Tk 23.32 crore for public works, Tk 8.72 crore for public health, Tk 21.56 crore for conservancy, and Tk 70 lakh each for emergency water supply and veterinary services.
Currently, 11 development projects are being implemented in the city with support from various development partners.
In FY 2025–26, Tk 133.18 crore has been allocated for these projects, including Tk 60.83 crore for the Climate Change Adaptation Urban Development Project-2, Tk 50 crore for the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Project, Tk 7.50 crore for UNICEF’s Smart Wash Initiative, Tk 6 crore for the Urban Primary Health Care Services Delivery Project, Tk 1.75 crore for Integrity for Transmit through Youth Council, and smaller allocations for several other projects.
Besides, Tk 75.28 crore has been allocated for two projects under the national ADP.
KCC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Sharif Asif Rahman presided over the budget session, attended by political leaders, civil society representatives, business leaders, government officials, senior KCC officers, and journalists.

30 injured in clash over Tk 40 in Habiganj
At least 30 people were injured in a clash triggered by a dispute over Tk 40 at Azmiriganj upazila in Habiganj on Thursday.
The clash broke out around 11:30am and continued until 1pm between the groups of Masuk Mia and Mufachchir Mia at Jashkeshari village under Shibpasha union.
According to police and locals, the feud began when Rabel Mia (12), son of Alkas Mia, sold a toy battery to Naim (13), son of Nabi Mia, about 10–12 days ago. Naim did not pay the remaining Tk 40, leading to an altercation between the two families. Locals had earlier tried to settle the matter through arbitration on Friday.
However, on Thursday morning, a fresh altercation broke out between Nabi Mia and Alkas Mia. At one stage, both groups armed with local weapons engaged in a fierce clash, leaving at least 30 people injured.
Sylhet police launches app to keep city safe
The injured were taken to Baniachong Upazila Health Complex and other nearby hospitals.
Azmiriganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam said the clash stemmed from a Tk 40 dispute between the children. “Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The situation is now normal,” he added.

Mother killed ‘by son’ in Manikganj
A 62-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her son over a property dispute in Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj district early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Karuna Rani Bhadra, wife of late Fotik Chandra Bhadra.
Locals said Ravi Chandra Bhadra, 42, attacked his mother Karuna with a sharp knife at their home, leaving her dead on the spot.
Two killed in Kushtia clash
Daulatpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) A.R.M. Al Mamun said, on information police went to the spot and recovered the body.
Later, the body was sent to a hospital morgue.
Ravi remained absconding since the incident, he added.

RMG workers block Dhaka-Mymensingh highway
Traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was disrupted for nearly an hour on Wednesday morning after workers of a garment factory blocked the road demanding their August salaries.
Around 150-200 workers of Bulbul Knitting and Sewing Ltd staged the protest at Dighirpar in Bason area around 7 am, halting vehicular movement, witnesses said.
The workers alleged that their August salaries, due by September 10, had not been paid, prompting the demonstration.
Nursing students block road in Gazipur
A team from the Industrial Police and Bason Police Station rushed to the scene and tried to disperse the protesters.
Traffic resumed around 8 am after the workers left the road following assurances from the police, said Md Shaheen Khan, Officer-in-Charge of Bason Police Station.
