Abducted JSS leader found dead in Bandarban
Police have recovered the body of a Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) leader from a hilly area near Krao Amtalipara in Bandarban district 15 hours after his abduction
The deceased was identified as Pu Shoi Thoai, 32, general secretary of Sadar Upazila Committee of JSS.
Police said locals spotted Pu Shoi’s body which was concealed in a ditch near Krao Amtalipara on the Bandarban-Chandraghona road on Monday morning.

On information, police went to the spot and recovered the body after digging soil at around 10am.
On Sunday, a group of armed terrorists abducted Pu Shoi Thoai Marma from his home in Dolupara around 6:30 pm.
Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Bandarban Police Station, said the body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The matter is under investigation.

Woman stabbed dead in Khulna
A woman was stabbed to death by some miscreants at Hatbaria village in Khulna’s Botiaghata upazila early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Tilottoma Mandal Putul, daughter of late Mahendra Mandal of Bittishalua Bayardanga village of the upazila.

Police said Putul went to visit her sister’s house in Hatbaria where some miscreants attacked Putul, her sister Deepika Mistry and her sister’s husband Prakash Mistry while they were asleep around 3am.
Putul was first stabbed on her face and hand. The miscreants then hacked two others and fled.
Later, they were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Putul dead. The injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical condition.

Khulna Additional Superintendent of Police (C-Circle) Md Rashed Hasan said the reason behind the attack could not be known yet.
However, police detained two people for interrogation in this regard, said the ASP.
The body was kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.

Covid test scam: Khulna hospital technologist lands in jail
A Khulna court has sent a technologist of Khulna General Hospital to jail in a Tk 2.57-crore graft relating to Covid-19 tests.
Khulna Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahidul Islam on Sunday issued the order turning down the bail petition of technologist Prakash Kumar Das, 45, said advocate Khandaker Mojibur Rahman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On November 18, Khandaker Kamruzzaman, deputy assistant director of ACC’s Khulna district office, filed the case.

Prakash recently came to Khulna to join his job here with a 15-day bail from the High Court in the graft case.
According to the case statement, Prakash was in charge of collecting the fees for Covid-19 tests from people going abroad.
The case statement reveals that Prakash collected a total of Tk 4.24 crore from July, 2020 to July, 2021 from people and deposited only Tk 1.66 crore to the government treasury, and embezzled the rest of the money, Tk 2.57 crore.
Later, a five-member inquiry committee, headed by Khulna General Hospital Civil Surgeon and Supervisor Dr Niaz Mohammad, was formed to investigate the allegations.

According to the probe report, the amount deposited was over Tk 2.57 crore, less than the amount he received.
Later, on September 22, an explanation was sought from Prakash and he promised to provide it the following day but he has been missing since then.
Immediately after this, a general diary (GD) was filed by the Khulna Civil Surgeon's Office with Khulna Police Station on September 28.

Man dies in police custody in Satkhira; ASI, constable suspended
A man arrested in a narcotics case died in prison in the early hours of Sunday under the custody of Detective Branch (DB) of Satkhira police.
The deceased was identified as Bablu Sardar, 56, accused in four cases filed under the Narcotics Act according to police.
Police claimed he committed suicide while his family members claimed he died due to police torture.
Meanwhile, Assistant Sub-Inspector of police Sohel Sheikh and constable Shariful were temporarily suspended on Sunday due to their negligence in duty.
Bablu committed suicide by hanging himself from the grill of lock-up gate using a nylon rope tied to his waist , said Yasin Alam Chowdhury, inspector of Satkhira DB police.
However Babul’s daughter Muni said, there was no such rope tied to his father’s waist and it is impossible for someone to commit suicide with a nylon rope.
“The police killed my father and I want justice,” she claimed.
Inspector Yasin said Babul was arrested on Saturday morning from his home at Basantapur village in Debhata upazila along with 50 bottles of phensedyl.
He was supposed to be produced before court on Sunday morning, he said.
Meanwhile Babul’s daughter Munni and son Alamgir Hossain claimed an unknown woman entered their house and kept the phensedyl bottles and informed the DB police immediately.
They said police also took Tk 35,000 from their house during the drive.
When asked about the incident, Md Mostafizur Rahman, Superintendent of Satkhira police, also said Babul committed suicide between 3am to 5am on Sunday.
Later the body was recovered in presence of Magistrate Aktar Hossain and medical officer Jayanat Kumer, he said.
The body has been sent for an autopsy, said the Superintendent of police.

One to die for killing wife over dowry in Satkhira
A Satkhira court on Sunday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife over dowry in 2010.
Satkhira Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge MD Azam handed down the verdict to Kartik Kumar Ghosh, 40.

The court also acquitted five others as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, Kartik beat his wife Shipra Ghosh for dowry on May 13, 2010.
Namita Ghosh, mother of Shipra later filed a murder case with Patkelghata Police Station against Kartik and five others.

Handcuffed drug peddler escapes from BGB camp
A suspected drug trader in handcuffs managed to flee from Lohakuchi BGB camp in Kaliganj Upazila of Lalmonirhat early Saturday.
The escaped accused is Mansur Ali, 35, son of late Osman Ali of Malgara area of Goral union of the Upazila.
Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Captain Lieutenant Colonel Touhidul Alam confirmed the matter.
According to locals and BGB sources, BGB men arrested a drug peddler with 2.5 kg of cannabis and seized his motorcycle on Friday around 9:30 pm.
Later, he was taken to Lohakuchi BGB camp from where he fled in handcuffs around 4 am on Saturday.
BGB men are trying to find the fugitive, said Colonel Touhidul Alam.

Pre UP-polls violence: Independent chairman candidate killed in Pabna
An independent chairman candidate was shot dead and 12 people were injured in a clash between supporters of two chairman candidates at Bharara union in Pabna Sadar upazila on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Yasin Ali, 35, son of Mozammel Hossain of Bharara village and cousin of another independent chairman candidate Sultan Mahmud Khan.
According to police and witnesses, a clash ensured between the supporters of Mahmud Khan and Awami League candidate Abu Sayed Khan over pasting posters.

During the clash the rival groups exchanged gunfire, leaving Yasin and 12 others injured, said Masud Alam, additional superintendent of Pabna police.
Yasin succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College, he said.
Nine of the injured were admitted to Pabna General Hospital and six of them later shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

The additional superintendent of police said police members were deployed at the scene and the situation is currently under control.
He said no complaint has been lodged yet in this regard.

Injured by stalkers, Kishoregnaj man dies in Dhaka
A man who was beaten allegedly by some teen gang members on Thursday for protesting stalking of his sister and mother died in Dhaka on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Alam Miah, of Bhati Jagatchar village in Kuliyarchar upazila.
On December 9, when Alam and his family members were returning home from a waz-mahfil in Laxmipur, some members of a local teen gang stalked Alam Mia's mother and sisters on the road near Laxmipur Bazar, said Alam’s family members.

When Alam protested the incident the teen gang members beat him up and fled.
Seriously injured Alam was first taken to Bhagalpur Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka for better treatment.
He died at a Dhaka hospital on Saturday morning.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kuliyarchar Police Station Mohammad Golam Mostafa said that the attackers have been identified and a case was filed against five persons including Rocky and Shaon.

Woman ends life in Dinajpur
A 25-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train in Dinajpur on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Monowara Begum Biskis, former wife of Monir of the Shoshtitola area near Dinajpur railway station.
Ershadul Haque Bhuiyan, in-charge of Dinajpur Railway Police Station, said that Monowara, a mother of two, had eloped with a man, named Alam, from the same area.

"They went to Dhaka and started working at a garment factory. Just a week ago, they returned to Dinajpur due to domestic unrest. Their relatives failed to resolve the issues through local arbitration," he said.
Bilkis Begum jumped in front of the Panchagarh-bound Kanchan Express this morning. "Alam has been detained for questioning," the officer added.

2 killed, 3 injured in road accident in Dinajpur
Two persons were killed and three others injured when a truck hit a cycle van on the Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway in the Chakai area of Dinajpur's Birganj upazila on Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Baser, son of Kafil Uddin, and Bachchu Mia, both residents of the upazila. The injured were also occupants of the same van.

"The accident occurred around 9pm when the truck coming from Thakurgaon district rammed the van carrying five people," said Abdul Matin Prodhan, officer-in-charge of Birganj police station.
The crash left two persons dead on the spot, he said, adding that the injured were taken to a local hospital.
