Microbus-auto collision kills 2 in Chapainawabganj
Two people were killed and three others injured in a microbus-auto-rickshaw collision on Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid land port road in Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Ziaur Rahman, 38, son of Md Ali of Pirojpur village of the upazila and Jahangir, 35, son of Jan Mohammad of Bholahat upazila.

Witnesses said a microbus collided head-on with an autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction at the Koylabari Truck Terminal area around 4 pm, leaving auto-rickshaw passenger Ziaur dead on the spot and four injured.
The injured were sent to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex where Jahangir succumbed to his injuries, confirmed Farid Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station.

20 gold bars seized in Cumilla; one held
Police arrested a man along with 20 gold bars weighing over 2 kg from Rarirchar area of Chandina upazila in Cumilla on Friday.
The estimated worth of the gold bars is 1.3 crore.
The arrestee was identified as Mahmudul Haque, son of Abdus Sabur, hailing from sotobarkona village in Satkania upazila of Chattogram district.

Child dies hit by bus in Rajshahi
A child on Friday was killed after a passenger bus hit him while he was crossing a road in Rajshahi’s Godagari upazila, police said.
The incident occurred at around 10 am on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway at Jamdani intersection.
The child was identified as Tawfiq, 5, son of Md. Babu in Charghat area of Bagha upazila.

Witnesses said Tawfiq was going to his grandfather's house in Jamdani village with his mother. His mother was paying the auto rickshaw fare at the Jamdani junction. While the child was crossing the road all by himself, he was hit by a Dhaka-bound Grameen Travels bus from Chapainawabganj and died on the spot.
Godagari Model Police officer-in-charge (OC) Kamrul Islam said the bus was stopped by locals at Baslitala area and later handed over to the police.
The OC said necessary action would be taken if any complaint was received from the child's family.

Tajik engineer killed in Pabna accident
A Tajik engineer of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant was killed after a goods-laden vehicle hit him in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna district on Friday noon, police said.
The deceased was identified as Barjahan, 35. He was an engineer of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna’s Ishwardi Upazila.

Barjahan was a Tajik national working as an engineer of the Russian-owned Nikimoth Company.
According to police, Engineer Barjahan was seriously injured when a goods carrying vehicle hit him from behind while working inside the project.
Later he was rescued and taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body, said inspector of Ishwardi police station (investigation) Hadiul Islam.
Arrangements will be made to send the body of the engineer to his country after the autopsy.
An unnatural death case has been filed at Ishwardi police station in this regard, said the OC.

Bus hits motorbike killing 3 on Chandpur-Cumilla highway
Three youths riding a motorbike on way to a tourist spot were killed after a collision with a speeding bus on Chandpur-Cumilla highway on Friday, police said.
The accident near Hajiganj’s Dherra CNG station occurred at around 1.30 pm during the Jumma prayers.
The deceased were identified as Sohag Hossain, 30, Md. Monir Hossain, 30, and Md. Sujan Hossain, 28, residents of Belashwar area of Chandina in Cumilla.

Citing eyewitnesses Hajiganj police sub-inspector Joynal Abedin six young men were going from Chandina in Cumilla to Chandpur Molhead tourist spot on two motorcycles. At Dherra under Hajiganj one of the motorcycles collided head-on with a passenger bus coming from the opposite leaving three riders of a bike dead on the spot.
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on road after the accident.

Meanwhile, locals managed to seize the bus but the driver managed to escape.
Joynal said that the bodies were taken to the police station.
Legal action would be taken after the autopsy, he said.

1 killed, 4 injured in Ctg road crash
One person was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Kumira union of the district's Sitakunda upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Jewel, the driver of the autorickshaw, who was a resident of Uttar Bashbaria village in the upazila.
The injured were identified as Manik (26), Kazi Moinul Islam (25), Nurul Islam (24), and Sagor (25). They are undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, said Md Firoz Mia, second officer of Kumira fire service station.

The accident occurred around 9pm in front of a petrol pump near the Sultana temple area of the highway, he said.
According to locals, the speeding truck hit the autorickshaw that overturned in the impact, leaving Jewel dead on the spot. A fire service team rushed the four injured to the hospital.

Munshiganj Building Fire: Siblings succumb to burns at SHBU
A 6-year-old boy and his 3-year-old sister succumbed to the severe burns they suffered when their house was on fire, while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit in the capital on Thursday night.
Quoting doctor, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station (investigation) Rajib Khan said the victims’ parents are struggling to survive.
Mother Shanta Begum (27), with 55 percent burns, and father Kawsar khan (36), with 60 percent burns, are currently undergoing treatment at the Hospital.
Earlier, a fire broke out on the second floor of Joynal Mia's four-storey building on Shah Cement Road in Char Muktarpur around 4:30 am on Thursday. Five people, including the four-member family above, were burnt while sleeping.
Another burnt neighbor Hritika Pal (4) was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Primarily it was thought that the inferno was caused by a gas explosion resulting from a leak in the room, said the OC.
The incident was really tragic and the exact cause of the explosion is being investigated, said Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Hasib Sarkar.

Worker killed in Chattogram shipyard
A worker was killed as an iron plate hit his head at a shipbreaking yard of No 10 Solimpur union in Sitakunda upazila on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Monir Ahmed, 37, son of late Monsur Ahmed of Solimpur village.
Victim’s co-workers said an iron plate hit Monir’s head while he was working in the morning.

Later he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at noon.
Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Model Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said legal action will be taken in this regard.

2 South Africa returnees remain traceless in Chattogram
Two expatriates, who returned to Chattogram from South Africa recently, could not be traced till Thursday as they provided wrong mobile phone numbers and wrong addresses.
Among the two traceless expatriates, one is a resident of Halishahar and another from Sitakunda.
According to the Civil Surgeon's Office, total five expatriates, hailing from Chattogram, returned from South Africa recently.
Three of them were contacted and they are from Boalkhali, Mirsarai and Satkania upazilas of Chattogram. The man from Satkania is currently staying in Badda of Dhaka.
The three returnees are doing well and staying at home in-self quarantine, the sources added.
Chittagong Civil Surgeon Md Elias Chowdhury said the expatriates returned to the country from South Africa on November 17.
Additional precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of new variant of coronavirus Omicron which has been identified in South Africa. Alerts have also been issued at the airports to prevent infection.
On Wednesday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque urged the expatriates, especially those who are living in Africa, to avoid travel and stay in their respective workplaces.
“People coming from Africa must undergo a14-day quarantine. If 20,000 people from Africa come to the country at a time then it won’t be possible to put them under institutional quarantine,” he said.
Meanwhile in Brahmanbaria, authorities hanged red flags outside the houses of seven South Africa returnees on Tuesday.

Fire guts 4 resorts, 3 eateries in Sajek Valley, no casualties
Four resorts and three eateries in Rangamati's Sajek Valley, one of the most popular tourist spots in Bangladesh, were gutted in a massive fire in the early hours of Thursday, officials said.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the inferno. All the tourists and the staff staying at the ill-fated resorts escaped unhurt, according to the officials.

The fire broke out at Obokash Resort around 4.30am and soon spread to three other resorts and restaurants, said Mizanur Rahman, the deputy commissioner of Rangamati district.
Apart from Obokash, the fire destroyed Sajek Eco Valley Resort, Megh Chut Resort, Mantana Resort, Maruti Restaurant, and two other establishments.

On information, a fire tender from Dighinala Fire Service and Army personnel rushed to the spot but it took them over two hours to douse the flames.
However, what caused the fire could not be known immediately. "A probe has been ordered," the DC said.
