4 killed in gunfight between unidentified groups in Bandarban: Police
Four people died during a gunfight on Saturday evening between two armed groups at Falongkhyang area near Rowangchhari-Ruma border in Bandarban, said police.
Earlier on Sunday, the unidentified bullet-hit bodies were recovered from the bank of the Sangu River in the upazila.

The identities of the deceased or the armed groups could not be known yet and, said Jerin Akter, superintendent of Bandarban Police at a press briefing on Sunday.
The bodies were recovered from the spot and will be sent for autopsy, she said.

Jerin said local people spotted the four bullet-hit bodies in the area in the morning and informed police.
According to locals, around 4 pm Saturday some armed men dumped the bodies after firing bullets in the area.

Two motorcyclists killed in Jashore road crash
Two motorcyclists were killed and 2 others injured in a head -on collision at Shyamlagachhi area in Sharsha upazila of Jashore district on Saturday night.The deceased were identified as Ashraful, 32, son of Ramzan Ali of Dhanyakhola village in Sharsha upazila and Moin Uddin, 30, son of AH Khaleq of the same village.However, the identities of the injured could not be known immediately.The accident occured when the two motorcyclists collided while crossing each other from opposite directions vat Shyamlagachhi around 8pm on Saturday, said Manjurul Alam, officer-in-Charge of Navaran Highway Police.Locals rescued the injured and took them to the Upazila Health Complex. Later, they were sent to Jashore General Hospital for better treatment as their condition worsened.The bodies were sent to Jashore General Hospital Morgue for autopsy, he added.

Nurse arrested for selling drugs in Natore private hospital
A female nurse of Natore General Hospital in Chakrampur area in Natore city was nabbed on Saturday for selling yaba in the hospital.
The arrestee was identified as Shikha Khatun, 40, employed as nurse-cum-manager of the hospital.
Following a tip off, provided by National Security Intelligence (NSI), Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) conducted a drive at the hospital and recovered 191 pieces of yaba from a duty room on the third floor, said Alamgir Hossain, assistant director of district DNC.
“The arrestee used to stay in that room at night and sell those drugs,” he said.
The approximate price of the recovered drugs is Tk 96, 000, he added. However no doctor was present at the hospital during the drive, he said.
Shahadat Hossain Khan, executive magistrate and assistant commissioner, said a case will be filed in this regard with Natore sadar police station.

Teenager stabbed dead in N’ganj
A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death by his rivals in Narayanganj sadar upazila on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Ibrahim, son of Amir Hossain of Crockerchar area of Alirtek of Sadar Thana.
Police arrested Yasin and Parveen in this connection.
Earlier on Friday evening, Ibrahim was killed by his rivals over a clash for playing football.
According to the locals, a scuffle broke out between Shawon, Shakil, Yunus, Yasin, Selim and Rifat Gang along with Ibrahim and his friends on Friday.
In the evening, Shakil, Yanus, Yasin, Shaon, Selim, Rifat and several others started to beat Ibrahim mercilessly. At one point, Shawon's mother, accused Parveen, hacked Ibrahim’s with a sharp weapon, leaving him seriously injured.
Ibrahim was rushed to Narayanganj Victoria hospital (Victoria) in critical condition, but doctors there referred him to Dhaka in view of his worsening condition.
He died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning.
A case has been filed in this regard and legal action will be taken after investigating the incident, said Azizul Haque Hawlader, Inspector (Investigation) Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.

N'ganj garment factory fire under control
A fire that broke out on Saturday at Sikder Garments Factory in Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj has been brought under control.The fire started on the second and third floors of the three-storied building around 9:01 pm.On information, eight units of firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control at 10:45pm, said Md Shahjahan Shikdar, Deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defense.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the fire yet, said the fire service official.The origin of the fire and damages from it are yet to be known, he added.

Instability in onion price as import declines through Hili land port
A recent decline of onion import from India through Hili land port has raised the retail price to Tk 10-12 per kg and wholesale price to Tk 14-15 per in the market.
Indian Nashik onion was being sold at Tk 44-46 which was being sold at Tk 35-36 per kg just two days ago, and Indore onion price rose to Tk 40 per kg from Tk 30-32 at retail market in Hili land port area on Saturday.
Meanwhile the price of local onions hiked Tk 10 and is being sold at Tk 58-60 per Kg now.

As the onion import is lower than the demand in the market hence the price rose, said Moinul Sheikh and Ferdous Hossain, two traders of the market.
However, they said the price may decline soon after the import goes back to normal.
Last week 25-30 trucks of Onion had been imported from India but this week it declined to 18-20 trucks , said Sohrab Hossain Mallik, PRO of Panama Hili Port, a private operator of the land port .
He said, “On Thursday 571 MT of onion entered from India in 21 trucks and the import remained uninterrupted on Saturday.”

Harun-Ur-Rashid, president of the importer-exporter group of the port said,” As import has declined and onion price in India has increased, currently the price is a bit high in the market. It will lower with the escalation of imports.”

10 shot in Magura clash
At least 10 people were shot and wounded on Saturday during a clash between two rival groups over arranging a waj mahfil at Urura village in Mohammadpur upazila in Magura.
Ten injured people were admitted to the hospital and all are currently out of danger, said Dr Zahidur Rahman, Associate Professor of Magura Medical College Hospital.
There was a longstanding rivalry between the supporters of Monirul , current member of ward-5 of Binodpur Union Parishad, and former member Liakat Molla, said local people.
Their supporters locked into a clash over arranging a waj mahfil around 10 am on Saturday, said Nasir Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur police station.
He said police was forced to fire bullets of shotgun and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.

“Police personnel have been deployed to avoid further trouble and a case will be filed in this regard,” said OC Nasir Uddin.
Monirul Molla and Shahidul Islam, two residents of the area, claimed at least five houses were vandalized during the clash.

Bagerhat gang-rape: 35-yr-old history-sheeter held, second arrest in 2 days
A 35-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with the recent gang-rape of a housewife in Bagerhat, the second arrest in the case.
The arrestee has been identified as Enamul Hawladar, son of Mansur Ali, a resident of Morelganj upazila. A history-sheeter, Enamul was arrested on Friday, police said on Saturday.
"On Thursday, Rab-6 nabbed the prime accused in the case -- Riaz Shikdar, 38, son of Abdul Majid Shikdar -- from the Bagmara area of Kachua upazila," said Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station.
"Efforts are on to arrest the other accused in the case," he added.

Al-Asad Md Mahfuzul Islam, company commander of Rab-6, said, "We started a shadow investigation after a rape case was filed at the Morrelganj police station on Wednesday against Riaz and 10 others."
Meanwhile, Bagerhat chief judicial magistrate recorded the statement of the woman in this case, said OC Iqbal Bahar.

Father-son killed in Hajiganj road crash
A man and his son were killed after a pick-up van hit them on the Chandpur-Comilla regional highway at Balakhal Bazar in Hajiganj on Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Zillur Rahman, 46, and son Bayezid, 8, hailing from Srinagar village in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
The accident occurred around 9 pm when they were crossing the road in Balakhal Bazar and the pick-up hit them, leaving father and son dead on the spot, said Jobayer Syed, officer-in-charge of Hajiganj Police Station.
They were rushed to the Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared them dead after the examination.
Police seized the pickup. However, the driver managed to flee, he added.
The bodies have been kept in the Upazila Health Complex. The legal process will be taken in this regard, the OC added.

KU teacher sent to jail for allegedly battering wife for dowry
A Khulna Court has sent a lecturer of Khulna University to jail denying him bail in a case that accused him of torturing his wife for dowry.
The accused is Sadhan Chandra Swarnakar, a lecturer of the Department of Environmental Sciences of the university.

Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Judge Md Tariqul Islam handed the order turning down the bail petition on Thursday.
On January 31, Puja Swarnakar, the accused’s wife, filed a case in the court of Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tariqul Islam alleging that her husband tortured her for dowry.
The plaintiff’s counsel Lawyer Abu Huraira Sohel said Sadhan started torturing Puja since their marriage in 2020 demanding dowry.

In the latest incident on January 7, Sadhan allegedly tortured Puja and threw her out of the house. Later, Puja’s family members admitted her to Khulna General Hospital after noticing injury marks on her body.
