Naogaon: Woman's body found, daughter-in-law detained
The body of an elderly woman was found in her son's house in Parnurulabad village of Naogaon's Manda upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Aklima Begum (60). Police suspect she was killed and have detained her daughter-in-law for questioning.
However, Laili Begum, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, said, "My husband is a microbus driver in Dhaka. My mother-in-law used to live with my brother-in-law. I brought her to our house on Thursday."

"She was alone in the house for few days as I had gone to visit my parents. When I returned home on Monday, I found the door locked from the outside. Later with the help of neighbours, I broke open the door only to find the body lying in a pool of blood," she said.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Manda Police Station Shahinur Rahman said the daughter-in-law of the deceased has been detained for questioning in connection with the death.

3 female students drowns in Turag, another missing
Three female students drowned and another went missing while taking bath in the Turag River at Painshile UttarPara in Sadar upazila of Gazipur district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Richi Akter, a class nine student of Bhawal Mirzapur High School, Irin, a local madrasha student and Maya Akhter, a class eight student of Bhawal Mirzapur Hazi Jamir Uddin High School.
Besides, Ria Akter, a class three student and sister of dead Richi was missing with fire service divers searching the river for her.

Fire Service sources said, five students went to the river close to their home to take bath in the afternoon.
At one stage, three of them drowned while another went missing. One more student managed to swim ashore.
On information, the divers from Gazipur and Tongi Fire Service rushed to the spot and recovered the three bodies.

Ehsan Group chairman, 3 brothers remanded in embezzlement case
A Pirojpur court on Monday placed Chairman of Ehsan Group Ragib Hasan and three of his brothers on a seven-day remand in a case filed over alleged embezzlement of Tk 17,000 crore from thousands of small investors.
The remand order was passed by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Mohiuddin.
On September 9, Harun ur Rashid, one of the affected clients, filed a case against Ragib and his brothers at Pirojpur Sadar Police Station accusing them defrauding thousands of people using their religious faith and misappropriating crores of taka collected from the investors.

On September 10, RAB members arrested Ragib Ahsan and his brother Abul Bashar from Dhaka while two other brothers Mufti Maulana Mahmudul Hasan and Md Khairul Islam were arrested in Pirojpur.
According to official sources, Ragib, once an Imam of a mosque, joined a Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) company and he set up Ehsan Group of Companies in 2010 based in Pirojpur
Starting with a real estate company first, he later formed 17 firms under the group’s name.
Many cases were filed against the group on charges of embezzlement of money from thousands of people promising to run the company according to Islamic Shariah law and offering them a high profit.

Covid claims 7 more lives in Khulna division
Seven more people died of Covid-19 and 130 others tested positive in Khulna division in 24 hours till Monday morning, health officials said.
Of the deceased three died in Jashore, two in Kushtia, one each in Khulna and Narail, said Divisional Health Director of the health directorate Dr Jashim Uddin Hawlader.
With the fresh figures, the total fatalities in the division have reached 3,086.
The fresh numbers took the total caseload to 1,10,870.
Besides, 538 more patients recovered from Covid during this period.
In Khulna division, the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Chuadanga on March 19, 2020.
However, Khulna district has so far recorded 782 fatalities which is the highest in the division.

Covid-19: Infection rate rises to 23.84 % in Faridpur ; 3 more die
Three more Covid patients died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College (BSMMC) Hospital in district in 24 hrs until Monday morning, health officials said.
Among the deceased, two died of Covid and remaining one died after showing symptoms.
With the latest figures, the number of fatalities in the district rose to 516.

Meanwhile, 61 more people were found positive for Covid-19 after testing 260 samples in the last 24 hrs.
The positivity rate now stands at 23.84% which was below 20% for a week, according to the district civil surgeon’s office.
BSMMC Director Md Saifur Rahman said 10 more Covid patients got admitted to the hospital during the period.
Currently, 59 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital and among them 11 are in the ICU.

Health officials said this situation may worsen further if the health safety measures are not followed properly.
Bangladesh logged 51 more Covid-19 deaths and 1,871 cases in 24 hours till Sunday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case positivity rate increased a bit to 7.46% from 7.03 % on Saturday .

4 of a family arrested over Ctg ex-UP member murder
Police have arrested four members of a family over the murder of a former Chattogram UP member.
Members of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested Abdul Quader, 50, his wife Hasina Begum, their son Md Riduan, 24, and son-in-law Touhidul Islam after separate drives in Barishal City and Babuganj on Sunday night, said Superintendent of Police (PBI-Ctg) Nazmul Hasan.
Abdul Quader is the main accused in the case filed in connection with the murder of Abul Bashar Talukder, 45, a former Union Parishad member of East Chapachhari village of Baharchhara union in Banshkhali. He was brutally killed on March 19.
Police held three people -- Abdul Jabbar, 55, Mozakkid, 30, and Saidur Rashid, 40, on suspicion of their involvement in the murder.
Banshkhali police later held current UP member Nasir over the murder and came to know about the involvement of Abdul Quader and his son during interrogation.
The arrestees had fled Chattogram to Barishal and were on the run until their arrest on Sunday night.

4 killed, 30 injured in Magura road accident
At least four people were killed and 30 others injured on Sunday afternoon in a road accident on Magura-Jashore highway, police said.
The accident occurred as an overloaded passenger bus fell into a roadside ditch at Ramakantpur area on the highway in Shalikha upazila of Magura.
The deceased were identified as the bus helper Mamun Mia (20) of Langalbad village in Sreepur upazila: Sahiran Nesha (50) wife of Bari Miah of Dighalgram in Shalikha upazila and Nazma Khatun (32) wife of Harun Miah of Shatkhali village.

The fourth dead, a 25-year-old remained unidentified yet but he could be the driver of the bus, said police sources.
Officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station Hossain Al Mahmud said the bus carrying extra passengers fell into a ditch at Ramakantpur at around 3 pm as the driver lost control. Fire service members recovered four bodies from the spot.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Magura and Shalikha hospitals, he said.
Police seized the bus and the bodies were sent to the morgue for autopsy

Fire breaks out in Faridpur Jute mill, no casualties reported
A devastating fire raged through Janata jute mill at Satair union in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur for about six hours before it was brought under control on Sunday evening.
No casualties were immediately reported.
Boalmari Fire Service Station Master Abdul Sattar Mollah said the blaze started around 12 pm at unit-3 of the mill and soon engulfed other parts of the jute godown.
On information, eight fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 6pm.
The fire is believed to have started due to a mechanical fault in the machine.
However, the exact extent of loss and source of fire could not be ascertained until the fire is completely extinguished, the official said.
Syed Nazrul Islam, senior administrative officer of Janata Jute Mill, said the whole unit with 50-60 mounds of jute and machineries were gutted in the fire.
About three hundred workers were working in that unit.

‘Drug peddler’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with BGB in Cox’s Bazar
A suspected Yaba peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in the Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Sunday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
A patrol team of BGB-2 noticed a boat with some people in the Naf River along the bordering area and challenged the boat early in the morning, said Commanding officer of BGB-2 Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Foysal Hasan.

At one stage, the criminals opened fire on the BGB men, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
After a brief gunfight, the BGB men recovered a bullet-hit body of a man and recovered 3.40 lakh Yaba pills and a gun from the spot.

2 siblings killed as train hits auto-rickshaw in B’baria
Two siblings were killed and their father was injured when a train hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Talshohor level crossing in Ashuganj upazila early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Rubel, 33 and Pavel, 23, two sons of Sadek Mia of the upazila.
Dharmajit Sinha, sub-inspector of Ashuganj Police Station, said the Dhaka-bound mail train from Chattogram hit the auto-rickshaw carrying four people while it was passing the level crossing, leaving Pavel dead on the spot and two others injured.

Injured Rubel and his father Sadek Mia were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared Rubel dead.
