12-year-old dies as house ceiling collapses in Ctg
In a freak accident, a 12-year-old boy died after a portion of the ceiling of his family house collapsed in the port city in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rudra Das, son of Sukumar Das from Shyamol Babu Colony in the city.

The tragedy occurred around 1.30am when the family was fast asleep in the house in the Kattali Choto Kalibari area of the city, said locals residents.
Rudra was taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead on arrival at 2am, said Sadekur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Panchlaish police station.

Youth hacked to death over affair in Manikganj
A 20-year-old man was hacked to death on Tuesday allegedly by some local youths over his affair with a woman in Singair upazila of Manikganj.
The deceased was identified as Rony, son of Nawab Ali of Wisenagar village in the upazila, said Shafiqul Islam Molla, officer-in-charge of Singair police station.
The alleged crime occurred in front of a local shop in East Bandail village of the upazila around 4pm.

According to witnesses, some four or five men, including a youth named Shanto,18, from Sahrail village hacked him with sharp weapons over Rony’s love affair.
Rony’s family took him to Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
OC Shafiqul said a murder case would be lodged in this regard after an autopsy.

Two die in road accident on Barisal-Patuakhali highway
Two youths were killed and another was injured when their bike collided with a motorised three-wheeler on the busy Barisal-Patuakhali highway in Jhalakathi district early Wednesday
The deceased were identified as Nirob, 25, son of Shahjahan Mridha, and Limon, 20, son of Nasir Howldar. Both were residents of ward 29 area in Barishal city.
The accident occurred around 12pm near the Kather Ghor area of Nalchity upazila on the Barisal-Patuakhali highway.

According to witnesses, Nirob with his two friends -- Limon and Sumon -- were travelling towards Barishal on a motorcycle when it collided with the three-wheeler. Nirob dead on the spot in the impact.
Limon died of his injuries at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, while Sumon is battling for his life at the medical facility, said Abul Kalam, ward master of the hospital.
Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nalchity police station, said the injured was taken to hospital by locals. “We are looking into the matter,” he said.

Man suffers bullet injuries during Eid congregation in Cumilla
A man sustained serious bullet injuries during Eid congregation at Golabari area of Sadar upazila in Cumilla on Tuesday.The injured was identified as Moshtaq Ahmed of the area.The incident occurred around 8am on Tuesday, said Sahidur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station in Cumilla.

Two killed, 10 injured in Faridpur clash
Two persons were killed and 10 others hurt in a turf war between two groups of villagers over 'establishing supremacy' at Gohailbari area of Boalmari upazila on Tuesday.The deceased were identified as Akidul Mollah, 46, son of Hashem Mollah of Chardaitarkathi village and Khairul, 45, son of Moslem of the same village.However, the identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

Lightning strikes kill 6, injure 3 in four districts
Six including two adolescents were killed and three others were injured as lightning struck them on Tuesday at different places of Tangail, Brahmanbaria, Meherpur and Habiganj.
In Tangail, three including two juveniles were killed and two others wounded at Hatia under Kalihati upazila as a streak of thunderbolt struck them while bathing in the New Dhaleshwari River around 9am.
The deceased were identified as Md. Arif Mia 15, son of Rabiul, Mostafa Kamal, 21, son-in-law of Abdur Razzak of Hatia village, and Faisal Udddin, 16, son of Zulhas Uddin of Dashkia Purbopara village under Dashkia union.
The injured are Rakib Mia and Zahid Hossain.
Confirming the news, Dashkia union parishad chairman Malek Bhuiyan said the injured two are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

In Brahmanbaria, youth Rony Mia, 22, son of late Mohammad Ali of Durgapur of the municipality was killed as lightning struck him while he was offering prayer at the grave of his grandparents after Eid Jamaat in the morning.
In Meherpur, a man named Abdur Razzak was killed and his brother Montu was injured as a thunderbolt struck them at Monohurpur village under sadar upazila in the morning while they were going to the local Eidgah maidan to join the Eid congregation.
Meherpur General Hospital residential medical officer Moklesur Rahman confirmed the matter to UNB.
In Habiganj, lightning struck Shahjahan Mia, 60, while he was bathing in a pond of Azmeriganj in the morning.

Sholakia hosts Asia's largest Eid Jamaat
After a Covid-induced hiatus of two years, the largest Eid congregation in Asia was held at Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj on Tuesday.
After the Eid Jamaat, the deputy commissioner and Eidgah Management Committee president Mohammad Shamim Alam told journalists that around three lakh devotees participated in the congregation.
This year, Maulana Soayib Bin Abdur Rouf, imam of Kishoreganj Boro Bazar Jame Mosque, conducted the Jamaat instead of Maulana Farid Uddin Masud, chairman of Jamiatul Ulama.
Devotees at Sholakia prayed for all Muslim Ummah and sought blessings from Allah.

Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, superintendent of Kishoreganj Police, said that the entire Sholakia Eidgha Maidan was brought under a thick security blanket.
A four-tier security system was put in place to ensure the safety of the devotees, he said.
A total of five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed besides Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), police and detectives. Apart from CCTV cameras, drones kept an eagle eye on the ground.
Two fire tenders and ambulances were on standby for any emergency, he added.
Two special trains -- both named Sholakia Express -- were operated on Bhairab-Kishoreganj and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj routes to ensure that the devotees could join the largest Eid Jamaat, officials said.
Every year, Sholakia Eidgha Maidan turns into a gathering place for Muslims. People offer prayers and seek blessings from Allah for their peace and happiness.

1 beaten to death, 2 injured in Bogura
A 35-year-old garment worker was beaten to death in Bogura’s Dhunat upazila on Sunday night.
Deceased Jhaloki Begum, wife of Mohan Akand, was tied up and beaten at their house in Gowahori (Pagla Ber) village under Gosaibari union of the upazila.
It was learned that Mohan Akand has six brothers. Two of his brothers – Nazrul and Kamrul had a dispute with Mohan’s family since the last UP election.
On Sunday, the duo threatened Mohan to evict his family from the village which led to a tussle. At around 9 pm followers of Nazrul and Kamrul tied up Jhaloki to a pole and beat her indiscriminately, said locals.

Seriously injured Jhaloki was taken to Dhunat Upazila Hospital and later to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.
Her son Milon Akand and brother-in-law Mizanur Akand were injured during the attack. Among them Mizanur's condition was critical, locals said.
Dhunat Police Station OC Kripa Sindhu Bala said, those involved with the incident would be identified and arrested soon.

Fire at spinning mills in N'ganj, Narsingdhi
Fire broke out at two separate spinning mills in Narayanganj and Narsingdhi on Monday, the fire department said.
No casualties were immediately reported. Details, however, are still sketchy.
In Narayanganj the fire was reported in the morning at Mita Spinning Mills in Bhulta area of Gawsia.

On information, five firefighting units rushed to the spot around 8:30am and are working to douse the blaze.
No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire and losses from it could not be identified immediately.
In Narsingdhi the fire broke out at Joj Mia Group Spinning Mills at Baganbari of Madhabdi in Narsingdhi Monday morning.
Five firefighting units rushed to the spot at 9:15am and extinguished the fire around 11:45am.
No casualties were immediately reported.
