Netherlands defeat South Africa, turning BD v PAK into virtual quarter-final
The Netherlands have shocked South Africa in the teams’ last Super 12s fixture of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide, winning by 13 runs to turn the next match between Bangladesh and Pakistan into a virtual quarter-final.
Whoever wins this game between Bangladesh and Pakistan, also to be played at the Adelaide Oval (at 10 a.m. BDT), will qualify for the semifinals with India from Group 2. Earlier, England and New Zealand advanced to the semi-finals from Group 1.

Netherlands beat South Africa for the first time across any format. Put in to bat first, the Dutch posted a respectable 158/4 off their 20 overs before restricting their opponents to 145/8. Colin Ackerman was adjudged man of the match for his innings of 41 off 26 balls that helped accelerate the Netherlands’ innings.
South Africa could have ensured qualification with a victory, but now ends on 5 points. It means whoever wins the game between Bangladesh and Pakistan, who are both on 4 points, will leapfrog them in the table to 6 points and qualify for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022. In that perspective, the BAN vs PAK match at the Adelaide Oval has practically become a do-or-die contest, or, in other words, a knockout contest.

T20 World Cup: Bangladesh to take on Pakistan Sunday
In the fifth match of the Super 12s of the ongoing T20 World Cup, the Tigers will take on the Green Shirts Sunday in Adelaide at 10am Bangladesh time.
Ahead of this match, Bangladesh played four matches and lost two of them; their latest defeat came against India at the same venue.
Despite just two wins from four matches, the Tigers still have a chance of making the semi-finals. But for that, they will have to beat Pakistan and South Africa will have to lose to the Netherlands.

The Bangladesh team had an optional practice session Saturday. Most of the players joined the session, but not Liton Das who suffered a hamstring injury during the Tigers' last match against India.
However, Debashis Chowdhry, chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said Liton's injury is not serious and he is fit to play Sunday's match.
Meanwhile, under the current contract, the match is going to be the last match for Sridharan Sriram as the T20 consultant of Bangladesh if the Tigers fail to qualify for the semi-finals.

Sridharan said he is not worried about it. "I'm looking forward to winning Sunday's clash against Pakistan."
Jalal Yunus, the chairman of BCB's cricket operation department, said they will talk about the contract of Sridharan after the tournament ends.

T20 World Cup: England make semifinals; Australia eliminated
England advanced to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup and eliminated host Australia on net run rate after their last over four-wicket win over Sri Lanka Saturday.
New Zealand, England and Australia all finished with seven points from five matches in Group 1 but the Kiwis topped the group with a net run rate of 2.113.
Australia paid the price for a heavy loss to New Zealand in the opening match and finished with a net run rate of -0.173. England had a net run rate of 0.473.
Ben Stokes kept his composure and made an unbeaten 42 off 36 balls as England reached 144-6 in 19.4 overs after Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat.

Sri Lanka could not have advanced even if it had beaten England but the islanders squandered a blistering start of 52-1 in five overs before ending up at a disappointing 141-8.
"We knew we had to find a way to win the match coming here today, so thankfully we did that," England skipper Jos Buttler said.
England will face the Group 2 winners in the semifinals at Adelaide next Thursday. New Zealand will play the Group 2 runner-ups at the Sydney Cricket Ground Wednesday.
Opening batter Pathum Nissanka braved pain on his twisted ankle and made 67 before England hit back through their spinners. Adil Rashid was 1-16 and fast bowler Mark Wood picked up 3-26 after being smacked for two sixes by Nissanka in his first over.
England sank Sri Lanka in the death overs when Nissanka holed out to long on in the 16th over and then Wood claimed three wickets in his return spell, allowing the islanders to score only 25 in the last five overs.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa was one of the Sri Lanka batters to reach double figures before falling for run-a-ball 22 and offered a tame catch at mid-on in Wood's last over.
Read: T20 World Cup: Australia beat Afghanistan by 4 runs
England had an injury scare when Dawid Malan limped off the field after sustaining a groin injury during the fielding.
But they did not feel Malan's absence with Alex Hales (47) and Jos Buttler (28) racking up 70 runs in the first six overs.
Sri Lankan premier spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga (2-23) ignited the collapse by removing both batters in his successive overs. Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone then fell cheaply and Moeen Ali offered a tame catch against the off spin of Dhananjaya de Silva (2-24) in the covers as England slipped to 111-5 in the 15th over.
But Stokes, promoted at No. 3 in place of injured Malan, kept cool with wickets falling around him and carried England home with two balls to spare.
The semifinalists from Group 2 will be determined Sunday when all six teams will be in action. At Adelaide, South Africa need a win against the Netherlands while Pakistan, whose progress depends on the results of other matches, will be up against Bangladesh. India will then meet Zimbabwe at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

T20 World Cup 2022: Bangladesh vs Pakistan Match Preview, H2H Record, Venue Stats, Likely Playing XI
Bangladesh will play their final Super 12 Round fixture against Pakistan on Sunday (November 6) at the Adelaide Cricket Ground, which will also be Pakistan’s last in the group stage. Both teams have an outside chance of securing a place in the semi-finals depending on the outcomes of the remaining two games in this group. Let’s have a look at the match preview, h2h record, venue statistics, and probable lineup of the Bangladesh vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2022.
BAN vs PAK ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2022: Match Preview
Bangladesh team was so close to earning a victory over India in their last encounter but lost disappointingly by 5 runs (d/l method). Team Tigers could have been in a strong position to advance to the knockout stage had they overcome India in Adelaide. But they can still make it to the semis if South Africa lose its contest against the Netherlands. But Bangladesh has to overcome Pakistan first before getting into any kind of conversation.

Litton Das played the best innings for his side against India with a 60 off 27 balls knock. Taskin Ahmed and the pace bowlers have been brilliant for Bangladesh in this World Cup. So, Bangladesh’s team spirit should be high to put up their best efforts against Pakistan.
Pakistan, on the other hand, came back strong against South Africa, winning the match by 33 runs (d/l method). Shaheen Shah Afridi seemed to find his rhythm while playing against South Africa. Leg-spinner Shadab Khan was brilliant with the bat and ball, as well. Iftikhar Ahmed has been criticized for not playing to his full potential, but against the Proteas, he was superb with the bat. One of the main concerns in Pakistan's campaign is captain Babar Azam’s poor form.
Overall, Pakistan will start as favourites in this contest against Bangladesh given the strengths of both squads.
Pakistan vs Bangladesh head-to-head T20I Record
Pakistan and Bangladesh have met in 17 T20Is. The Pakistan team has dominated the head-to-head contest with 15 wins, compared to Bangladesh's two victories. The two sides last met during a tri-nation series in New Zealand in October, where Pakistan comfortably beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets.
Bangladesh vs Pakistan ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2022 match schedule
The Bangladesh vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2022 contest will be held at the Adelaide Oval on November 6, and as per schedule, the match will start at 10 a.m. (Bangladesh Standard Time), which is 9 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time.

Adelaide’s weather report and pitch
There is no chance of rain in Adelaide on Sunday (November 6) as the whole day is predicted to be sunny. Since the bat-first team has a better record at this venue, the toss-winning captain might be tempted to chase here at the Oval.
Pakistan vs Bangladesh ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Predicted playing XI
The Bangladesh campaign is unlikely to make any changes to their playing XI. They are likely to field the same playing XI against Pakistan that took part in the match against India. On the other hand, the Pakistan side is unlikely to make any adjustments to their winning playing XI.
Pakistan (probable playing XI)Top-Order: Mohammad Rizwan (wicket-keeper), Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Haris, Middle-Order: Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim, Lower-Order: Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah
Bangladesh (probable playing XI) Top-Order: Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Middle-Order: Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wicket-keeper), Mosaddek Hossain, Yasir Ali, Taskin Ahmed, Lower-Order: Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud

Verdict
The match preview and head-to-head record favour the Pakistan team to win the contest against Bangladesh on Sunday at the Oval in Adelaide, the match venue. However, who will be in the playing XI for the Bangladesh vs Pakistan match will be important to the match's outcome.
The winner of this match could advance to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022. They can move on to the next stage if either the Netherlands or Zimbabwe win their respective games against South Africa and India. The aim for both Pakistan and Bangladesh, therefore, should be to win their last Super 12 Round match on Sunday in order to end their World Cup campaigns on a high note.

T20 World Cup: Australia beat Afghanistan by 4 runs
New Zealand and England were the major winners from a match neither of them took part in at the T20 World Cup on Friday as Australia ended up beating Afghanistan by only four runs.
New Zealand, which earlier defeated Ireland by 35 runs, secured their semifinal spot because Australia needed a crushing win to match the Kiwis. New Zealand's run rate of 2.113 makes them the favourites to finish atop Group 1 ahead of England as well as Australia.
England were also smiling as they will advance if they beat Sri Lanka in Sydney on Saturday, with the added satisfaction of knocking out traditional rival Australia. If Sri Lanka win, Australia qualify for the semifinals. Both New Zealand and Australia have seven points, two more than third-place England and three more than Sri Lanka.

It could have been even worse for the hosts but Marcus Stoinis held his nerve in the final over to give Australia a hard-earned win against last-place Afghanistan.
Glenn Maxwell's 54 not out off 32 balls helped Australia to 168-8 after being asked to bat. Afghanistan smashed their way to 164-7 in reply with Rashid Khan scoring 48 not out off 23 balls. Rashid needed to score 22 off the last six balls but Stoinis was able to restrict him, and Afghanistan, to 17.
Australia looked dejected at the end of the match with their players knowing they needed to restrict Afghanistan to 106 or less to earn a higher net run rate than England.
Now Australia's net run rate is minus 0.173 and their fate is no longer in their hands.
Australia struggled to find momentum throughout their innings as their batters were tasked with scoring quick runs and lots of them. Cameron Green was out for three and David Warner for 25. Mitchell Marsh drove the Australia innings in the first half, with 45 off 30 balls. He hit three fours and two sixes.
Regular wickets meant Australia were 52-3 in six overs at one stage. Marsh was out caught off Mujeeb ur Rahman (1-42) leaving Australia at 86-4 in 10.4 overs.

Maxwell then took charge and smacked six fours as well as two sixes. Stoinis gave him company with 25 off 21 balls. The duo put on 53 off 29 for the fifth wicket.
Australia lost Matthew Wade (6) and Pat Cummins (0), but Maxwell rallied his side to a par score.
Naveen-ul-Haq took 3-21.
"Their clean hitting gave us a bit of scare. I was glad to have an impact with the bat and in the field. We were trying to go hard, but they bowled extremely well in the last four overs," Maxwell said.
In reply, Afghanistan lost Usman Ghani early but scored 47-2 in the powerplay.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 30 off 17 balls, while Gulbadin Naib hit 39 off 23 to keep his side in the hunt.
Maxwell ran out Naib with a straight hit from deep midwicket in the 14th over. Afghanistan then lost two more wickets in the next three deliveries to Adam Zampa, who returned 2-22.
It brought Rashid Khan to the crease, who hit four sixes and three fours to bring the match into balance before Stoinis prevailed.
Earlier, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson posted a half-century and his spinners checked Ireland's scoring rate. Williamson scored 61 off 35 balls as New Zealand reached 185-6 after being sent in to bat, his innings negating Ireland pace bowler Josh Little's hat-trick.
Ireland were restricted to 150-9 in reply, with Lockie Ferguson taking 3-22 for New Zealand while spinners Mitchell Santner (2-26) and Ish Sodhi (2-31) took key wickets at the top of the order.

How Bangladesh’s semifinal dream can still be fulfilled
The Bangladeshi cricketing fraternity is still in shock after the heart-stopping defeat to India. Two wins in four matches won’t be able to carry the Tigers to the semifinals, but they still have some hope for the Bangladesh team.
Shakib Al Hasan and his team will take on Pakistan on Sunday. If they can beat Pakistan this time, the hope of the semifinal may materialize. But it will depend on the results of other matches.
Bangladesh now have four points in four matches. India and South Africa are at the top of the table with six and five respectively.
Read: T20 World Cup 2022: Semifinal qualification scenarios
Now, if Bangladesh beat Pakistan, and South Africa lose to the Netherlands, Bangladesh will surpass the total of point of South Africa, and thus, they will qualify for the semifinals.
Before the upcoming match, South Africa faced the Netherlands in one T20I before and won. So they have the history on their side.
The Netherlands have played well in this World Cup so far. They beat Zimbabwe in the Super 12 as well, but a win of them against South Africa is unlikely if they don’t play an exceptional brand of cricket.

T20 World Cup: New Zealand beat Ireland by 35 runs
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson posted a half century and his spinners checked Ireland’s scoring rate in a 35-run win Friday that gave the Black Caps a strong chance of securing a semifinal spot at the Twenty20 World Cup.
Williamson scored 61 off 35 balls as New Zealand reached 185-6 after being sent in to bat, his innings negating Ireland pace bowlers Josh Little’s hat trick — only the second of this tournament.

Ireland was restricted to 150-9 in reply, with Lockie Ferguson taking 3-22 for New Zealand while spinners Mitchell Santner (2-26) and Ish Sodhi (2-31) took key wickets at the top of the order.
New Zealand has seven points from five games and its high net run-rate of 2.113 makes it favorite to finish atop Group 1 ahead of England and Australia.
The Australians were without skipper Aaron Finch for their last Super 12 game against Afghanistan later Friday, when they needed to win by a big margin to improve their chances of qualification. England will play Sri Lanka in Sydney on Saturday.
Afghanistan won the toss and opted to field. Matthew Wade was leading Australia in the absence of Finch, who was ruled out with a hamstring injury.
New Zealand started against Ireland knowing it needed a win to keep its chances of advancing alive.
Fabian Allen made a rapid star, scoring 32 off 18 balls including five boundaries and a six.
Allen put on 52 off 35 balls in an opening stand with Devon Conway (28), who later added another 44 runs with Williamson for the second wicket.
Williamson accelerated in the second half of the innings, hitting five fours and three sixes overall. He reached his half-century off 32 balls.

“I was just trying to build partnerships. The openers set up the total. The spinners bowled brilliantly to help us win the game,” Williamson said.
Little changed the complexion of New Zealand’s innings in the 19th over, when he dismissed Williamson, Jimmy Neesham and Santner in succession to claim a hat-trick.
It was only the second hat-trick in this tournament after Karthik Meiyappan’s feat against Sri Lanka in the preliminary round.
Daryl Mitchell scored 31 not out off 21 balls to propel his side to a par-plus score.
In reply, Ireland raced to 68-1 in 8.1 overs. Andrew Balbirnie (30) and Paul Stirling (37) made quick starts, hitting three fours and four sixes between them.
New Zealand’s spin attack brought it back into the game, with Sodhi bowling Stirling to really turn the game in the 10th over and then dismissing No. 3 Lorcan Tucker (13) in the 15th.
Santner took the first wicket when he bowled Balbirnie and having Harry Tector (2) caught at point as Ireland was reduced to 94-4 in 13.1 overs.
George Dockrell scored 23 off 15. None of the last five Irish batters reached double digits.

T20 World Cup 2022: Semifinal qualification scenarios
As the Super 12s is about to finish on November 6, the big teams started to find their form in the final stages of this round in their quest for a semifinal berth. It seems three teams are currently fighting for a place in the semifinals from Group 1, while the scenarios in Group 2 are a bit complicated. Let’s take a look at the semifinal qualification scenarios for the T20 World Cup 2022.
Semifinal qualification scenarios for the T20 World Cup 2022
As it stands in the points tables of both groups, the semi-final lineup will likely be from the teams that started their campaign as favorites in the Twenty20 World Cup 2022. Australia, New Zealand, and England are the favorites from Group 1 to advance to the knockout phase. On the other hand, India and South Africa are in a strong position in Group 2. Here are the current scenarios for both groups' points tables.

Group 1
New Zealand are in a strong position in the points standings to finish top of Group 1. They have five points with better run rates than England and Australia. The Kiwi side will face Ireland in their final group stage fixture and will advance to the next round if they simply beat them.
England and Australia will likely battle it out for the second spot in this group. Both have 5 points each, but England ahead of Australia thanks to better run rates. England will take on Sri Lanka in their final group phase fixtures, while Australia will face Afghanistan.
In a realistic point of view, Sri Lanka have a better chance to beat England than Afghanistan have to overcome Australia. The reigning champions, Australia, will be hoping for Sri Lanka to defeat England in their final fixture so that they can advance to the next phase by beating Afghanistan.
On the other hand, England will qualify for the next phase if they beat Sri Lanka. The Lankan side is in fourth place with 4 points, and they have a chance if they beat England. But at the same time, Australia have to lose their fixture against Afghanistan in order for Sri Lanka to advance to the next phase.
Besides, Ireland and Afghanistan have no chance to move on to the semifinals as they are in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, with 3 and 2 points each.

Group 2
India are currently at the top of the points table with 6 points after four games, and they will advance to the semifinal phase should they win against Zimbabwe in their final fixture of the Super 12 Round.
South Africa are in the second position with 5 points and will have two matches left against Pakistan and the Netherlands, respectively. The Proteas side is the hot favourite to finish in the top two in the standings as they have a strong run rate.
Bangladesh are in third position with 4 points and can have 6 points if they beat Pakistan in their final fixture on November 6. On the other hand, Pakistan can earn as many as 6 points if they win their final two fixtures against South Africa and Bangladesh, respectively.
Both Bangladesh and Pakistan have an outside chance to finish in the top two of the points table, but that completely depends on the outcomes of India and South Africa’s fixtures. Besides, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands are currently in the fourth and sixth positions, respectively. These two teams have no chance of making it to the knockout stage.

Bottom Line
Australia, England, New Zealand, India, and South Africa are expected to advance to the next round based on the current point standings scenarios for a semifinal spot from both groups. These teams deserve to go to the knockout round, as they are considered hot favourites to win the T20 World Cup 2022.
