ICC T20 World Cup 2022: How Hard is Bangladesh’s Group 2?
The Bangladesh national men’s cricket team will play in Group 2 of the Super 12 round in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They don’t have to take part in the first round to qualify for the next phase, as they had to in the previous edition. It’s certainly an improvement for the team Tigers, but the teams they will face in the main event will definitely give them a hard time. Besides, the Australian conditions are another major concern for the players' ability to show their true potential in the tournament. Let’s take a look at the teams that Bangladesh will face in Group 2.
2022 T20 World Cup: The participating teams in Group 2
The confirmed participating teams in Group 2 are Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and South Africa. Two more teams will join the group after competing in the first round. Given their respective strengths, the West Indies and Netherlands are likely to advance to the Super 12 Group 2 phase.
Given the current form and strengths, Bangladesh will have to face some tough competition in Group 2. South Africa, Pakistan, and India are the top four T20I teams according to the ICC. On the other hand, if West Indies qualify to play in this group, then facing them will also be a real challenge for the Bangladesh T20I team. Recently, they lost a T20I series against the Caribbean side 2-0. Overall, Bangladesh have five wins and nine defeats against the Windies.

Bangladesh's only hope of winning a game will be against the team that finishes second in Group A in the first round. Except for that match, the other opponents will start as favourites against Bangladesh in their remaining matches. Bangladesh’s records against the other three confirmed teams in the group are very poor. Therefore, expecting good results against them in unfavourable conditions would not be realistic.

The majority of Bangladeshi players also lack sufficient experience playing in Australian settings. There will be quick, bouncy pitches which are also suitable for batting. Bangladesh's players must quickly adjust to the environment to exhibit some tenacity against these formidable opponents.

Bangladesh’s Super 12 fixtures in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022
The 2022 ICC Twenty20 World Cup will begin on October 16. Bangladesh will start their World Cup campaign with a match against the Group A runner-up from the first round. Team Tigers will end their Super 12 phase with a match against Pakistan. Overall, Bangladesh will play five matches in this phase. Here are the complete Super 12 fixtures of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh vs Group A Runner-Up : October 24 | Venue: Bellerive Oval, Hobart | Start Time: 10 a.m. (BST)
Bangladesh vs South Africa : October 27 | Venue: Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney | Start Time: 9 a.m. (BST)
Bangladesh vs Group B Winner : October 30 | Venue: The Gabba, Brisbane | Start Time: 9 a.m. (BST)
Bangladesh vs India : November 2 | Venue: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide | Start Time: 2 p.m. (BST)
Bangladesh vs Pakistan : November 6 | Venue: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide | Start Time: 10 a.m. (BST)
Bottom Line
The majority of Bangladesh’s opponents in Group 2 of the Super 12 phase are the ICC’s top-ranked teams. Teams like India, Pakistan, and South Africa are among the favourites to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The West Indies can also surprise everyone if the team finds the right combination during the main event. Therefore, Bangladesh have no realistic chance to qualify for the semifinals. Their main objective in the competition is to compete fearlessly against the difficult rivals. Bangladesh’s 2022 Twenty20 World Cup campaign will be deemed a success if they are able to do this.

SAfrica spoils Stokes’ final ODI with 62-run win vs. England
Rassie van der Dussen’s career-best 134 and Anrich Nortje’s four wickets led South Africa to a 62-run victory over England in staggering heat to spoil Ben Stokes’ final one-day international appearance on Tuesday.
The Proteas recorded 333 for five as Van der Dussen, who hit his third ODI century, shared century stands with Janneman Malan (57) and Aiden Markram (77) after winning the toss at Riverside Ground in the opener of the three-match series. Van der Dussen’s previous ODI high was 129 not out against India in January.
England was all out for 271 in response on a day of record heat across Britain, where the temperature hit 40.3 degrees Celsius (104.5 degrees Fahrenheit). Matthew Potts, on his debut, bowled four overs before feeling ill and leaving the field.
“He went off to cool down, but I don’t think he ever quite felt well enough to come back on,” captain Jos Buttler said.
Stokes, who announced he’s retiring from ODIs to ease his workload as test captain and for Twenty20s, bowled five wicketless overs for 44 runs before being dismissed for five. It was Stokes’ 105th ODI appearance and he left to a standing ovation.
Read: BCB set to introduce regional cricket bodies
Liam Livingstone’s spin accounted for the two top scorers — Van der Dussen clean bowled and Markram holing out in the space of three deliveries. Sam Curran, Moeen Ali and Brydon Carse each took one apiece.
England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow shared a 102-run partnership before Roy (43) holed out off captain Keshav Maharaj in the 19th over. Markram then had Bairstow (63) leg before wicket to leave the hosts at 125 for 2.
In stepped Stokes but not for long. He made just 5 from 11 balls before missing on an attempted reverse sweep for leg before wicket to Markram.

Joe Root kept things interesting with 86 runs off 77 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes, before Anrich Nortje enticed him to deflect it into his stumps as England slumped to 252 for 7. That was after Buttler and Moeen Ali were undone by the spin of Tabraiz Shamsi and after Livingstone dragged Lungi Ngidi into his stumps.
Nortje then took the remaining three wickets.
The second ODI is Friday at Old Trafford.

India vs West Indies H2H: ODI and T20I Stats
In the 1979 World Cup, India and West Indies faced each other for the first time in the ODI format. The Caribbean side won that contest quite comprehensively by 9 wickets. Since then, both teams have met each other 136 times. India’s recent record over the West Indies has been very impressive as they have won eight and lost only one match in ten meetings since the 2019 World Cup.
India have dominated the West Indies in T20 cricket in recent years. The Indian Twenty20 International team has an edge over the Caribbean team in their head-to-head duel.

Bottom Line
India's white-ball teams are by far the favorites to win the West Indies vs India Series 2022 in both the ODI and T20I formats given their present form and strength. On the other hand, the West Indies will try to outperform in the Twenty20 format series and take revenge for their 3-0 series loss to India last February. However, the West Indies ODI team’s performances in recent years have been below par. They suffered a 3-0 whitewash against Bangladesh in their most recent home series. Therefore, the Caribbean team will need to perform exceptionally well if they want to defeat a strong team like India.

BCB set to introduce regional cricket bodies
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is all set to introduce regional cricket bodies, BCB president Nazmul Hasan said after the annual general meeting of the board on Tuesday in Dhaka.
BCB was trying for a long time to establish regional cricket bodies, but the initiative remained stuck as there was no provision in BCB’s constitution to form regional cricket associations.
“We are all set to form regional cricket bodies,” Nazmul told the reporter after the meeting. “We hope we can finalize the guidelines soon.”
Nazmul also said that the board needed to amend the constitution of the board to add a provision so that they can introduce the initiative to establish cricket’s regional association.
“Currently, every cricket-related activity is controlled from Dhaka. But once we have the regional cricket bodies, every region will be able to decide what they need to do for the development of regional cricket,” Nazmul added.
After the latest development, every division of Bangladesh will get a regional cricket body except Mymensingh which will still be a part of Dhaka division. But Mymensing may have a separate team under their name in the National Cricket League competition, a BCB official confirmed.
But a guideline or a framework to form the regional cricket bodies is yet to be finalized.
The BCB president said it will take some time for the board to finalize a guideline. He, however, couldn't confirm how much time it would take.

BCB also decided that every club that participates in the divisional cricket events, the premier division, and first, second and third division, will have at least a councillor.
Previously, some clubs have more than one councillor and some have no councillorship at all. A councillorship enables a club official to be a part of the general council of the BCB and every councillor has the right to vote or take part in the BCB election.
The board has introduced two committees— Bangladesh Tigers and Welfare — in the latest annual general meeting. While the Bangladesh Tigers committee is already operational, the Welfare committee will be announced soon.
The Bangladesh Tigers Committee is formed to look after a new bunch of players who are part of the Bangladesh Tigers team, and the Welfare Committee will work for the welfare of cricketers and the other related stakeholders.

Pakistan makes positive start, chasing 342 to beat Sri Lanka
Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq got Pakistan away to a positive start chasing a target of 342 for victory against Sri Lanka, reaching 68 without loss at lunch on Day 4 of the first test.
Pakistan still need a further 274 runs to take a lead in the two-match series and will have to set a record to reach the target. The highest successful fourth-innings run chase at Galle is 268 set by Sri Lanka against New Zealand in 2019.
Abdullah and Imam had some nervous moments in the morning session Tuesday. Imam was given out LBW to Kasun Rajitha on three but the decision was overturned on review. In Rajitha’s next over, Dinesh Chandimal, running backward from extra-cover, put down a tough chance off Imam.
There was a loud shout for LBW against Abdullah and although Sri Lanka reviewed the original not out decision, the batter survived by narrowest of margins. He remained unbeaten on 41 at lunch and Imam was not out on 25.
Read:Sri Lanka's Parliament readies to accept names for president
Sri Lanka was dismissed for 337 in its second innings, adding eight runs in four overs in the morning after resuming on 329-9.
The hosts were confident that they had enough runs on the board and the only anticipation was Dinesh Chandimal reaching his hundred. He was on 86 overnight and was left stranded on 94 not out when Naseem Shah bowled Prabath Jayasuriya.
The series is being played against the backdrop of an economic and political crisis engulfing Sri Lanka.
The second test, scheduled to start next Sunday, was switched from Colombo to Galle because Cricket Sri Lanka decided not to take any chances with potential political protests in the capital.
The venue switch was confirmed around the time Ranil Wickremesinghe, who became acting President last week after Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled abroad and resigned after months-long mass protests over the country’s economic collapse, declared a state of emergency on Monday.
Sri Lanka is experiencing its worst economic crisis since independence, with severe shortages of essential items such as fuel, cooking gas and medicine.

Bottom Line
Two months long, South Africa’s England tour will end with the third Test at the Oval in September. The last match of the England vs South Series 2022 could be the most exciting one as the Proteas Test team is doing well in the ongoing ICC’s Test Championship 2021-2023, leading the points standings with 71.43 percent. South Africa will be eager to win the Test series, but England’s recent form in the longer-version format has been outstanding. Therefore, a tightly-contested Test series is expected between England and South Africa. Two limited-overs series also promise to be an exciting affair as both teams have some of the world’s best players.

England Test captain Ben Stokes retires from ODI cricket
England test cricket captain Ben Stokes will retire from one-day internationals after Tuesday’s match with South Africa, ending an ODI career which peaked with winning the World Cup in 2019.
Stokes said Monday he remains fully committed to Twenty20 internationals as well as the test captaincy, but that he needed a break from the punishing schedule.
“As hard as a decision as this was to come to, it’s not as hard dealing with the fact I can’t give my teammates 100% of myself in this format anymore. The England shirt deserves nothing less from anyone who wears it,” Stokes said in a statement.

“Three formats are just unsustainable for me now. Not only do I feel that my body is letting me down because of the schedule and what is expected of us, but I also feel that I am taking the place of another player who can give (England ODI captain) Jos (Buttler) and the rest of the team their all.”
The match against South Africa will be Stokes’ 105th ODI for England and comes at the Riverside ground at Chester-le-Street, the home of Stokes’ county team Durham.
Stokes’ defining performance in ODIs came in the 2019 World Cup final, when he scored 84 not out as England tied New Zealand’s score and then eight more runs in the deciding super over.

Bottom Line
The current Zimbabwe team is not a competitive one that can pose some threat to the visiting Bangladesh team. As a result, the team Tigers will begin as favorites to win both the ODI and T20 formats in the Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh Series 2022. Tamim Iqbal can set a new record of winning the most consecutive ODI series as a captain if his team wins the fifty-overs format series. On the other hand, the Mahmudullah-led T20I team will get another chance to prepare themselves ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022. Bangladesh players, who have lacked confidence and are out of form on the international stage, should take the tour seriously.

ICC Test Championship: Bangladesh likely to play 34 Tests in next two editions
Bangladesh's performance in the Test format has declined in recent series. They have only one win in the ongoing 2021–2023 ICC Test Championship and have lost eight out of ten matches. Despite the fact that the players haven’t shown viable improvement in the longer-version format, the latest FTP of the ICC may include 34 Tests for Bangladesh in the next two editions of the ICC Test Championship, claims cricket news portal ESPNCricninfo. Who will be Bangladesh's opponents and other major series in the next two editions of the Test Championship are discussed in this article.
Bangladesh’s probable opponents in next two editions of the ICC Test Championship
Bangladesh will likely play both England and Australia in the 2025-2027 cycles of the ICC Test Championship, which will be two big series for them. England may come to Bangladesh, while Australia's series will be away from home.
Bangladesh have a series against Pakistan in both the third and fourth editions of the Test Championship. In addition, Bangladesh will play an away series against India in the 2023–2025 cycle but not one in the 2025–2027 cycle. Here are the probable opponents of Bangladesh in the next two editions of the ICC Test Championship.

How many Tests will the other teams play?
Like in the first two editions, nine Test playing nations will take part in the third and fourth cycles of the ICC Test Championship. The participating teams are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. Each team will take part in six bilateral Test series, three series at home and three away series.
According to ESPNCricinfo, England will play the most Tests (42), followed by Australia (41) and India (38). Surprisingly, Bangladesh will play the fourth highest, with 32 Tests in the next two cycles, while New Zealand will play 32 Tests. The remaining four teams will play fewer than 30 Test matches in the next two editions of the competition.
Bottom Line
The second edition of the ICC Test Championship will end in March 2023. Bangladesh are in the bottom position in the points standings with one win, and they will likely finish last at the end of the competition. As per ESPNCrincfo’s report, Bangladesh will play 17 or 18 matches in the next two cycles of the Test Championship, allowing them to face some of the toughest opponents in the competition. The BCB should take this opportunity to be more serious about the development of the longer-version format. The Cricket Board should aim to instill a culture of Test cricket in the country so that fans are more interested in the format and players are more motivated to excel on the field.
