ENG vs IND 2022: England, India gear up for fifth Test
The fifth Test between England and India in Manchester was postponed last year due to the growing number of COVID-19 positive cases in the Indian campaign. The respective cricket boards of the two nations agreed to organize the match during India’s white-ball teams' visit to England in July 2022. Therefore, the ENG vs IND 2022 fifth Test match will be played before the limited-overs series and will start on July 1. The Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham will host the contest. The match preview of the final Test of England versus India series is discussed in this article.
England vs India Test Series 2021: Fifth Test Match Preview
By taking a 2-1 lead, India have the edge over England in this series. England, on the other hand, must win this game in order to tie the series 2-2. Had the fifth match been contested a couple of months ago, India would have been favourite to clinch it.
However, a lot has changed since Ben Stokes became the captain of the English Test side. Stokes-led England thumped New Zealand 3-0 at home. They seem more confident and aggressive-minded than they were under Joe Root’s captaincy. Besides, England’s record over India at Edgbaston is completely one-sided. They have never lost a Test match against India at this ground.

India
India’s biggest concern at the moment is captain Rohit Sharma’s availability for the fifth match. Rohit was tested positive for COVID-19 last week, but the Indian campaign will wait for his availability until the last moment. If Rohit misses the match, then either Hanuma Vihari or Shubman Gill will fill his spot in the playing XI.
Another hot topic is who will lead Team India in Rohit's absence. There is a possibility that Jasprit Bumrah may captain this Indian Test side or Rishabh Pant could be picked as the skipper for the contest. The possibility of Virat Kohli being able to captain the team for this one match can’t be ruled out either.

England
The English campaign is in a jovial mood at the moment after their recent success against New Zealand. The team spirit is really high under the leadership of Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. England will likely deploy four pacers to make things difficult for the Indian batting line-up. In batting, Bairstow is in red-hot form and he can be devastating when needed.
Top-Order: Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope;
Middle-Order: Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (captain), Ben Foakes (wicket-keeper), Matthew Potts;
Lower-Order: Jack Leach, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.

Weather Forecast and Pitch Report
As per the weather report in Birmingham, there will be a mixture of sunshine and heavy showers in the next five days. The match could be interrupted briefly if rain remains persistent during the contest. Like the other venues in England, the Edgbaston pitch in Birmingham will likely favour the quicker bowlers, especially on day 1.
The average first innings score in the Test format at this venue is 308. Besides, both campaigns also have to consider the weather conditions before making their decision. However, opting to field first should be an ideal choice for a toss-winning captain.
Aftermath
There is no shortage of talent in the English campaign, but it’s bizarre how England made a brilliant comeback in the home series against New Zealand after losing a Test series against West Indies. England whitewashed New Zealand (3-0) in their recent series, and now they can consider themselves favourites to beat India in the fifth match.
India, on the other hand, is struggling to select their preferred playing XI. Captain Rohit Sharma is still uncertain for the ENG vs IND 2022 fifth Test match. However, this is expected to be an eye-catching contest as both sides consist of some of the best cricketers in the world.

Shakib uncertain for West Indies ODIs
Bangladesh Test captain Shakib Al Hasan is uncertain for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, BCB president Nazmul Hasan has hinted.
Shakib is part of the ODI squad that the cricket board announced for the upcoming series. But there has always been speculation about his participation in this series.
Read:“It’s not acceptable”: Shakib on Tigers' batting woes
“I knew it before he went to the West Indies,” Nazmul said. “He didn't discuss it with me, but discussed with others.
Nazmul also said that Shakib spoke to Jalal Yunus, the chairman of cricket operations, about taking a leave during the ODI series.
“Shakib didn't talk about it to the board,” Nazmul added. “I will speak to him soon and will get to know what he actually wants. As of now, he hasn't talked to the board officially, but you can still take it as official.”
The three-match ODI series against the West Indies is not a part of the ICC World Cup Super League, which may have prompted the allrounder to skip this series.

Donald wants a fast, furious Taskin
Right-arm pace bowler Taksin Ahmed said national team bowling coach Allan Donald has asked him to be "fast and aggressive" in the upcoming limited-overs series against the West Indies.
The bowler is all set to be back in action after a long gap imposed by injury. The pacer is now with the team in the West Indies.
"He (Allan) told me to be fast and aggressive," Taskin said. "After joining the team, I've talked to him and asked him what my role should be as I just came back from an injury. He told me to do what I'm used to doing."
Donald directed Taskin to bowl as fast as he could while keeping his line and length accurate.
He said a bowler like Taskin may concede more runs at one stage of a match, but at another, he can take wickets and win the match for his team.
Right before the limited-over series (three one-days and as many T20Is), Bangladesh and the West Indies took on each other in a two-match Test series that the visitors lost 0-2.
Taskin believes Bangladesh has a great chance to make a comeback in the limited-over matches.
"It's unfortunate that we couldn't play well in the last series," he said. "But we will now play a T20I and ODI series where we can do well."
The T20Is of this series will take place on July 2, 3 and 7, and the ODIs on July 10, 13 and 16.
Bangladesh will play in the ACC Asia Cup T20 later this year. After that, they will take part in the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. So, all the T20I matches ahead of these two big events are important for the Tigers.

Nurul, Khaled make jump in ICC Ranking
Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan, left-handed batter Najmul Hossain Shanto and right-handed pacer Khaled Ahmed have seen improvement in the latest ICC Test Ranking for the players.
Bangladesh have recently played a two-match Test series against the West Indies and lost both the matches. The Tigers failed to pose any sort of challenge to the hosts.

Despite the team's failure, Nurul did well with the bat. He hit a fifty in each Test and helped the Tigers avoid an innings defeat in the second Test. Sohan is now at 84 after two fifties in the recently-concluded Test series.
Shanto failed to impress with the bat in this series, but he was slightly better than the other batters. The left-handed batter is now at 88 among the Test betters.
And Khaled, the right-arm pacer, picked up 10 wickets in two Tests with a five-wicket haul. Along the way, Khaled became the first Bangladeshi pacer to have registered a five-wicket haul in the West Indies. Khaled is now the 88th among the Test bowlers.
The Tigers are now gearing up for the three-match T20I and three-match ODI series against the West Indies.

BAN vs WI T20I Series 2022: 5 Bangladeshi players to watch out
Bangladesh’s performance in the Test format against West Indies was demoralizing, losing the series by a 2-0 margin. The Tigers T20I team needs to find a way to stop the Windies' aggression as well as to dominate them. Bangladesh’s target should be to clinch the BAN vs WI T20I Series 2022. Losing the series would be regarded as a failure for the Mahmudullah-led Bangladesh side. Let’s take a look at the five players from Bangladesh who could be vital in the Bangladesh versus West Indist T20I contest.
5 Key Bangladeshi players in T20 series against West Indies
Bangladesh must follow the proper strategy in order to win the BAN vs WI T20I Series 2022. Besides, the players have to execute the plan on the field. In this case, some players have to play with a little more responsibility. The five Bangladeshi cricketers who could be important in the series against the West Indies are discussed in this article.
Mahmudullah Riyad
T20Is: 115 | Runs: 2,002 | HS: 64* | Ave: 23.83 | 50s: 6 | Wickets: 37 | BBI: 3/10 | Ave: 26.94 | Econ: 7.19
Captain Mahmudullah will be a crucial part of Bangladesh’s middle order. He must accept responsibility for hastening the death rate. Riyad can also be an effective breakthrough bowler when needed. Besides, all eyes will be on his captaincy, especially how he will lead the Bangladesh team. Since January 2021, Riyad has been Bangladesh's second-highest run-scorer in T20Is.

Shakib Al Hasan
T20Is: 96 | Runs: 1,908 | HS: 84 | Ave: 22.44 | 50s: 9 | Wickets: 119 | BBI: 5/20 | Ave: 19.88 | Econ: 6.67 | 5W: 1
There is no doubt that ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will be a vital player for Bangladesh in the upcoming BAN vs WI T20I Series 2022. Among the Bangladeshi players, Shakib has picked up the most wickets with 19 against West Indies in the T20 format. So, this stat will encourage him to perform even better in the series.
Litton Das
T20Is: 48 | Runs: 917 | HS: 61 | Ave: 19.93 | 50s: 5
Even though Litton’s performance in the recent Twenty20 Internationals hasn’t been so impressive, his experience will come in handy for Bangladesh during the series. In the absence of Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal, Litton will have to play the anchor role for the team.
Read BAN vs WI Test Series 2022: How Bangladesh’s players performed against the Windies
Mustafizur Rahman
T20Is: 63 | Wickets: 87 | BBI: 5/22 | Ave: 19.65 | Econ: 7.57 | 5W: 1
Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s cutter delivery will be a major weapon to put West Indian batters under strain in the series. Mustafizur alone can take the game away from the West Indies team if he finds his best rhythm during the series. The recent record is also in Mustafizur’s favor as he has picked up the highest 29 wickets for Bangladesh since 2021.
Nasum Ahmed
T20Is: 20 | Wickets: 26 | BBI: 4/10 | Ave: 16.00 | Econ: 6.44
Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed has been a revolution for Bangladesh in the T20 format since making his debut against New Zealand in March 2021. Nasum’s ability to read the batter's mind and intelligent bowling has been impressive. Captain Mahmudullah usually deploys Nasum at the start of the innings to put extra pressure on the batters. This crafty spinner has so far been a big success for Bangladesh in the game's shortest format.

Bottom Line
The West Indies’ recent Twenty20 form hasn’t been impressive. Some new players have been incorporated into the Caribbean T20 squad. The hosts are therefore now a less experienced team than they were before. Bangladesh should seize the opportunity and strive to come up with a plan of strategy that would allow them to outperform the Windies side in the BAN vs. WI T20I Series 2022. Bangladesh have the real potential to win the series if their players play to the best of their abilities.

World Cup-winning England captain Morgan retires from cricket
Eoin Morgan, the Irishman who led England to a maiden World Cup victory, confirmed his retirement from international cricket and stepped down as England’s white-ball captain after more than seven years on Tuesday.
After England’s dismal failure at the 2015 Cricket World Cup, Morgan spearheaded the team’s white-ball transformation to a bold, attacking approach and unprecedented heights.
He led England to its first global 50-over title at the 2019 World Cup, and the No. 1 ranking in one-day internationals and Twenty20s. They enjoyed series victories against every major team and 65% success on his watch.
“As with all great players and leaders, he has changed the way the game has been played, and he has changed the way an entire generation and generations to come will play this form of the game,” Rob Key, the managing director of England men’s cricket, said. “His legacy within the game will be felt for many years to come.”
Morgan’s teams have the three highest ODI totals; last week in the Netherlands they raised the world record to 498-4.
However, he scored consecutive ducks in the first two matches and missed the third with a groin issue, and told Sky Sports that he came to the sad realisation then that his time was up.
His form and fitness have been in decline. Over the last year and a half, the 35-year-old Morgan has only one half-century in 48 innings in international and domestic T20s and ODIs.
“To call time on what has been without doubt the most enjoyable and rewarding chapter of my career hasn’t been an easy decision, but I believe now is the right time to do so, both for me, personally, and for both England white-ball sides I have led to this point,” he said.
England allrounder Moeen Ali, who won the 2019 World Cup with Morgan, wasn’t surprised by the captain’s timing.
“The team for him still comes first, which just shows how unselfish he is,” Ali told the BBC. “He’s done a remarkable job and he’s the best we’ve ever had, for sure.”
Morgan is the only England player to win both limited-overs World Cups. He was in the side which won the 2010 World Twenty20 in Barbados and captained the team to the final in 2016 in Kolkata.
He holds the team records for most ODIs (225) and T20s (115), and the most runs in both formats.
The Dublin-born Morgan was originally capped by Ireland a month before his 16th birthday in 2006. He was run out on 99 in the ODI debut. After helping Ireland qualify for the 2011 World Cup, he surprised nobody when he switched allegiance to England in 2009.
England gave him 16 tests from 2010-12 and he scored two centuries, but he was far more effective in white-ball matches. His inventive and audacious style inspired and thrilled, and he was the obvious candidate to replace Alastair Cook as the white-ball captain at the end of 2014.
Jos Buttler is expected to be the new captain. Morgan said he will continue playing domestic cricket.
Ali lauded Morgan’s “massive achievement” in changing the team’s mindset, as well as being a great captain.
“There were so many times where people were caught on the boundary and they were like, ‘I should have just hit a single,’ and he was like, ’No, no, next time you hit it out of the ground.’ We’d never come across a captain like that before.”

BAN vs WI Test Series 2022: How Bangladesh’s players performed against the Windies
Shakib Al Hasan believes Bangladesh have to develop a Test culture in order to be a competitive side in the format. He made this comment after Bangladesh's humbling 10-wicket loss to the West Indies on Monday (June 27) in St. Lucia. The visiting team suffered a 2-0 defeat in the BAN vs WI Test Series 2022. The performances of Bangladeshi players in the series are discussed in this article.
Bangladesh vs West Indies Test Series 2022: Performance of Bangladeshi players
Bangladesh failed to create a winning situation in any of the two matches of the BAN vs WI Test Series 2022. The batters' depressing batting displays were a big factor in their failure. Let’s take a look at how Bangladesh’s players performed in the just-concluded Test series against West Indies.
Batting (Top Order)
Tamim Iqbal was expected to play the anchor role for the team. However, he fell short of expectations in all four innings, with his highest 46-run knock coming in the first innings of the second Test. Tamim had a nice start in three innings but couldn’t convert any of those to a big one. His opening partner, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, played a good 42-run knock in the second innings of the first Test.

Apart from that, Joy was a complete flop in the series. At no.3, Najmul Hossain Shanto had a start like Tamim Iqbal, but he too failed to convert his good start to a big innings. Shanto’s best 42-run knock in the series came in the second innings of the second Test.

Batting (Middle-Orders)
Shakib Al Hasan played two important knocks in the middle-orders in the first Test, which helped Bangladesh to avoid an innings defeat. Shakib’s 51 runs helped Bangladesh score 100 in the first innings and his 63 runs guided the tigers to take a lead in the second innings of the first Test. Shakib didn’t do much with the bat in the second Test.

Wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan made a 100-run stand with Shakib in the second innings of the first Test, which was the major highlight of Bangladesh's batting in the series. Nurul played a patient 64-run knock. He also played an aggressive 60-run knock in the second innings of the second match, which helped Bangladesh avoid an innings defeat.
In-form, Litton Das only made a half-century in the first innings of the second Test. Anamul Haque and Mominul Haque played a match each, and they didn’t do much in the series.

Bowling (Spin)
Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were the only two spinners used by Bangladesh in the BAN vs WI Test Series 2022. Mehidy Miraz had a good outing in the series. He picked up 7 wickets in 4 innings with an average of 22.85. Miraz’s best bowling figure in the series was 4/59. On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan had a relatively quiet series with the ball, picking only one wicket in three innings.
Bowling (Fast Bowler)
Pacer Khaled Ahmed surprised all the Bangladesh cricket fans by showing a wonderful performance with the ball. Khaled picked up his first five-wicket haul in the second innings of the second Test. Overall, he was the third highest wicket-taker in the series.
On the other hand, Ebadot Hossain was more economical than Khaled, but he only picked up two wickets in the series. Mustafizur Rahman played the first match and was the most economical bowler of the series. Shoriful Islam replaced him in the second Test and picked up two wickets.

Bangladesh's bowling performance was quite impressive in the BAN vs WI Test Series 2022. However, their overall batting performance in the series was somewhat counterproductive. Players didn't seem to have the self-belief, technical prowess, or perseverance which are essential to stay for a long time at the crease and play big innings. The BCB must take the necessary steps to ensure that the batters are equipped for the Test format in any conditions. Bangladesh have already lost six of the eight games they have played so far in 2022. They will host India for two more Test matches in November of this year.

Bangladesh Suffer its 100 Test Defeats
Bangladesh couldn’t avoid the whitewash against West Indies, losing the BAN vs WI Test series 2022 at 2-0. The West Indian team won the second match by 10 wickets on Monday (June 27) at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia. The loss in the second match was Bangladesh’s 100th defeat in the Test format and also the fastest to do so. On the other hand, the West Indies have added some important points to their ICC Test Championship points table with two back-to-back victories. The report of the second match in BAN vs WI Test series 2022 and the record of 100 Test defeats of different countries are discussed in this article.
Bangladesh vs West Indies Second Test: Match Report
In response to Bangladesh’s 234 runs, West Indies managed to score 408 runs in their first innings and took a 174-run lead. The middle-order batter, Kyle Mayers, played a marvelous knock of 146 and made a couple of solid partnerships with Jermaine Blackwood and Joshua Da Silva in the middle, which helped the Caribbean side to score big in their innings.
Fast bowler Khaled Ahmed, who was not a favourite choice of the Bangladesh fans, once again proved everyone wrong by picking up his first five-wicket haul in an innings. Khaled finished his spell with a 5/106, his career best figure. At least in overseas conditions, where pacers usually get extra support from the surface, it seems Khaled Ahmed is right now the best pacer in Test cricket for Bangladesh. Since returning to the Bangladesh Test set up against Pakistan in December last year, Khaled Ahmed has picked up 19 wickets with an average of 36.63, the best by any Bangladeshi fast bowler.

Bangladesh’s chances of winning the match perished after West Indies’ big lead in the first innings. The Tigers campaign was hoping that their batters would display solidarity in their approach and try to play long innings. However, Bangladesh's batters failed to meet expectations for the fourth time in the Test series. They were bowled out for 186 runs in their second innings after giving the hosts only a 13-run target to clinch the match. The Caribbean side reached the target in 2.5 overs without losing a wicket.

Najmul Hossain Shanto played a 42-run knock in the second innings for Bangladesh. But it was Nurul Hasan Sohan’s quick-fire unbeaten 60* off 50 balls that helped Bangladesh to avoid an innings defeat. Kyle Mayers won the player of the match award for the second Test. He was also awarded the best player of the series trophy for scoring 153 runs and picking up six wickets in the series.
Number of games played by each nation in their 100th Test defeat
Bangladesh became the fastest to concede a 100th Test defeat after losing the second match against the Caribbean team. This stat is certainly demoralizing and unexpected for Bangladesh cricket. Before that, New Zealand held the record for fastest to concede 100 defeats in the longer-version format. However, New Zealand played 241 matches when they lost their 100 matches in Test cricket. On the other hand, Bangladesh had to play only 134 matches to surpass New Zealand's record.

Bottom Line
Bangladesh’s performance in the Test format in recent times has been below par. They have conceded 11 defeats out of the 15 Test matches they have played since 2021. Bangladesh’s performances against their closest rivals, Sri Lanka and West Indies, have been upsetting since last year. The Tiger's Test team has lost six matches out of eight they have played against Sri Lanka and West Indies, respectively. These stats suggest that the BCB needs to take massive actions in order to raise the level of Test performance.

WI register 10-wicket win vs Bangladesh
West Indies thrashed Bangladesh by 10 wickets in St Lucia to win the second match of the two-Test series. With this, the hosts won the series 2-0.
In fact, Bangladesh failed to impress with the bat throughout the series. They suffered six ducks in the first innings of the first Test, and in the last innings of the series, they managed to post only 186 runs. Overall, it was yet another poor batting display by Bangladesh that eventually handed WI a Test series that they would love to forget.
“We always knew it was going to be a tough series,” Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan told the broadcaster after the match. “There are a lot of positives to take from this series. We will have time to think now and try to get better in Tests. In Tests, when we travel, most sides don't do well. We need to be mentally tough.”

Shakib also said that his team needs more time to produce a good performance in the Tests. But he also said that the upcoming white-ball series will be a stage for the Tigers to show their guts.
Like the third day of the St Lucia Test, the fourth day was also hit by intense rain. The first session of the day was completely washed away.
Bangladesh were struggling at 132 for six at the end of day three. They could add only 54 runs to their overnight total with a fifty from Nurul Hasan Shohan. The last three batters who are pacers — Ebadot Hossain, Khaled Ahmed and Shoriful Islam — failed to perform.
Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales took three wickets each.
With the fifty of Sohan, Bangladesh avoided an innings defeat but the fourth-innings target for the West Indies was small — 13 runs that the hosts managed to score in just 2.5 overs without losing any wicket.
Bangladesh were behind the hosts from the first innings of the match when they had scored only 234 runs. The visitors were not able to come out from that downfall.

In reply to Bangladesh’s below-par first innings, the West Indies scored 408 runs -- thanks to a century by Kyle Mayers who scored 146 and the West Indies captain, Kraigg Brathwaite, who hit a fifty.
For Bangladesh, Khaled Ahmed bagged five wickets in the first innings — the best bowling display by any Bangladeshi pacer in the West Indies. But his effort went in vain as the batters couldn't produce a total to keep the fight alive.
“I think the confidence of the guys was high,” Kraigg Brathwaite, the West Indies captain, said after the match. “The planning and execution made me happy. Mayers' partnership with Blackwood was superb. Bangladesh bowled well. I think there is always room for improvement. We should try to bat over 100 overs almost every time.”
Both the teams will now lock horns in a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series. The T20Is will take place on July 2, 3 and 7, and the ODIs on July 10, 13 and 16.
