“It’s unfortunate” says Naimur about Bangladesh’s Test debacle
The first Test captain of Bangladesh, Naimur Rahman, said that the continued failure in Test cricket is an unwanted fate for Bangladesh.
Over the last three years, Bangladesh played 19 Tests and lost 14 of them with only three wins and two draws. In most cases, batters lost the game for the teams. They failed to impress both at home and abroad.
Recently, Bangladesh played a home series against Sri Lanka and ended up losing by 1-0. The Tigers also lost the first match of the two-match Test series against West Indies in Antigua despite being more experienced than the hosts.
In the second Test against Sri Lanka and first against West Indies, six Bangladeshi batters failed to score anything. Along the process, Bangladesh became the first team in history to suffer six ducks in consecutive Tests.
“Compared to our time, players get more facilities now,” Naimur said. “In that sense, it’s unfortunate that we are not being able to earn the result we deserve. As a nation, as the board, organizers or spectators, everyone wants to do well in the shorter format of the game.”
As of the first Test in the ongoing series against the West Indies, Bangladesh played 133 Tests and won only 16 of them. Naimur believes the situation is the result of Bangladesh’s lesser attention to the longer format of cricket.
READ: BAN vs WI Series 2022: How Bangladesh’s players fared in first Test
“Test is the main cricket,” Naimur said. “It’s been years since we got the Test status. So we have to do well now. I think if we don’t concentrate on the longer version of cricket on the domestic circuit, we won’t be able to do well.”
In the first Test of the ongoing series in the West Indies, Bangladesh were tumbled for 103 in the first innings with six batters failing to score anything. Shakib Al Hasan, the newly-appointed Test captain was the only batter to have scored runs— the fifties in both innings.
After the first match, Shakib slammed the batters for their failure to take up the responsibilities. He said it would be easy for him to axe the players if the poor cricket continues from them.
The second Test of this series will take place on June 24. After the two-match Test series, both the teams will take on each other in a three-match ODI and two-match T20I series.

BAN vs WI Series 2022: How Bangladesh’s players fared in first Test
The BAN vs WI Series 2022 has begun with Bangladesh losing the first Test by 7 wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. By looking at the result, it seems like the game was closely contested between the two teams. However, the fact is that the visiting team’s performance was mostly disappointing. Their batting performance was unimpressive, with six batters dismissed for ducks early in the innings. In contrast, the bowlers performed well in both innings. How Bangladesh's players fared in the first Test is discussed in this article.
The Performance of Bangladesh's Players in the First Test
Captain Shakib Al Hasan's all-round performance in the series-opening match was one of the games' highlights for Bangladesh. Shakib scored fifty runs in both innings. He also put up a 100-run partnership with wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan for the seventh wicket in the second innings, which helped Bangladesh escape an innings loss.
Bangladesh's bowlers performed admirably, dismissing the Windies for 265 runs in the first innings. They also picked up three West Indian wickets when the score was only nine in the second innings. Let's take a look at each Bangladeshi player's performance in the opening Test of the BAN vs WI Series 2022.

Tamim Iqbal
Inn: 2 | Runs: 51 | HS: 29
There was an expectation of the veteran opener, Tamim Iqbal, that he would play the anchor role and guide Bangladesh to a big total. However, Tamim failed to fulfill his expectations in both innings. He made 29 in the first innings and 22 in the second innings.
The southpaw had a start in each innings but couldn’t carry on to bat for a big score. On a personal level, Tamim became the second Bangladesh player to score 5,000 Test runs in this match. He needs to be more responsible in the second match.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy
Inn: 2 | Runs: 42 | HS: 42
The highly talented opener, Mahmudul Hasan, made a duck in the first innings. He was looking sharp in the second innings before losing his wicket to Kemar Roach. Joy played a very patient 42-run knock. Mahmudul Hasan has continued to impress the selectors with his sincerity with the bat. His perseverance and determination will be important for Bangladesh in the second Test.

Najmul Hasan is rated highly by the selectors. However, he hasn’t been consistent on the international scene, which is a major concern for him. Najmul made a duck in the first innings and notched 17 runs in the second innings.
Mominul Haque
Inn: 2 | Runs: 4 | HS: 4
The former Bangladesh Test captain, Mominul Haque, has been completely out of form, which is why the team has suffered a lot. He made a duck in the first innings and scored only four in the second innings. Maybe Mominul needs a break to regain his confidence.

Litton’s recent Test form is the best among the Bangladesh batters. However, he hasn’t scored a fifty in the last six overseas innings, which is a big concern. In the first Test, Litton Das made 12 and 17.
Shakib Al Hasan
Inn: 2 | Runs: 114 | HS: 63 | Wkts: 1 | BBI: 1/48
Shakib Al Hasan’s performance with the bat was satisfactory. Shakib had no choice but to take an aggressive approach after a dismal show by the other batters. The ace all-rounder hit aggressive half-centuries in each innings of the match. He also picked a wicket in the first innings. Shakib was by far the best player for Bangladesh in the contest.

Nurul Hasan Sohan
Inn: 2 | Runs: 64 | HS: 64
Wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan was one of the six batters who scored ducks in the first innings. However, Nurul didn’t waste the opportunity he got in the second innings. He played a 64-run knock in 147 deliveries and made a record 123-run stand with skipper Shakib Al Hasan for the seventh wicket. Nurul is considered the best keeper in Bangladesh. His performance with the gloves was also brilliant in the first match.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Inn: 2 | Wkts: 4 | BBI: 4/59
Mehidy Miraz had a brilliant performance with the ball in the first innings. He picked up 4 wickets for 59 runs in the first innings. He was sent to bat at No.3 in the second innings but failed to contribute with the bat.

Ebadot Hossain

Ebadot picked two wickets in the first innings but remained wicketless in the second innings. He maintained less than 3 economy rates in the contest, which is a good thing.

Khaled Ahmed
Inn: 2 | Wkts: 5 | BBI: 3/27
Bangladesh's most successful bowler in the match was pacer Khaled Ahmed. The right-arm pacer picked up five wickets in the contest. In particular, he put a lot of pressure on the West Indian batting line-up at the start of the second innings and removed three West Indian batters when the score was only 9.
Aftermath
The majority of the players had poor performances, which contributed to Bangladesh's lackluster performance in the first match of the BAN vs WI Series 2022. The Shakib-led team must formulate a good strategy for the second encounter. They must also put out their best effort in order to level the series. Bangladesh may need to make some changes to their playing XI for a competitive team.

SL vs AUS 2022: Lankans eye first home series win over Australia since 1992
The current SL vs AUS 2022 ODI series has seen Sri Lanka win two of the first three matches. With two matches remaining, Sri Lanka are now in a strong position to win the series, as the momentum is now in their favor. Sri Lanka will win their first home ODI series against Australia in 30 years if they win the fourth or fifth match. Sri Lanka last won a bilateral One-Day International series against Australia at home in 1992. The fourth match preview between Sri Lanka and Australia is discussed in this article.
Sri Lanka vs Australia Fourth ODI: Match Preview
Sri Lanka’s recent international form hasn’t been impressive and the team is in a rebuilding process. A few seriously talented cricketers have come up over the last couple of years. The Lankan Cricket Board is trying to formulate a strong limited-overs side by allowing their talented players more chances on the international stage. The patience that the Lankan Cricket Board has kept on their young players has finally paid off, as witnessed in the current Australia series.
The Australian team, on the other hand, was expecting to face a less challenging match against the Lankan side in the limited-overs format. However, the hosts have come up with a proper strategy and more intent in the ODI format. They overcame the Australian side in the second and third matches to take a 2-1 lead in the series. The fourth ODI will be held at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, on Tuesday (June 21) at 3 p.m.

Sri Lanka
The Lankan side has taken their home ground advantage by introducing some effective spinners into the ODI series contest. In addition, pacers Dushmantha Chameera and Chamika Karunaratne have managed to put pressure on the Aussie batting line-up. The bowling department has done their job pretty well.
In the third match, openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis were brilliant. Their partnership set the platform for the Lankan side to clinch the match. Nissanka’s maiden ODI hundred is an innings to remember. He, along with Kusal, will once again be important players for the hosts in the fourth match of the SL vs AUS 2022 series.

Australia
The Australian campaign should feel that they have to perform as a team in order to clinch the ODI series against Sri Lanka. They couldn’t chase down a low total in the second match, bowled out for only 189 with 12.5 overs to spare. The visitors made a strong batting display in the third match, but the bowling unit couldn’t defend the 291-run total. All the departments should have to put up a fighting spirit if Australia want to level the series against Sri Lanka.
Probable Playing XI
Top-Order: David Warner, Aaron Finch (captain), Mitchell Marsh;
Middle-Order: Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey (wicket-keeper), Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Swepson;

Bottom Line
It's difficult to predict who will win the fourth ODI of the SL vs AUS 2022 series since the Australians have a reputation for coming back strong from nowhere. The visiting team can level the series with an aggressive performance on Tuesday. On the other hand, this will be a fantastic opportunity for Sri Lanka to win a bilateral ODI series against Australia in their own backyard for the first time since 1992. If they don't win, they will have a chance to win the series in the fifth match.

Shoriful included in Bangladesh squad for 2nd Test against West Indies
Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam has been included in the Bangladesh squad for the second Test against the hosts West Indies, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said Monday.
Shoriful was not a part of the Test side due to an injury. As the pacer is doing well now, the selectors added him to the team.
He has played four Tests and bagged six wickets. Shoriful's best bowling figure is 69/3.
In the first Test of the series, Bangladesh suffered a seven-wicket defeat after a poor batting display in both innings.
New Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan hit 50s in each innings, and Nurul Hasan Sohan scored one in the second innings. Most of the other batsmen were too culpable in their dismissals.

“It’s not acceptable”: Shakib on Tigers' batting woes
After losing the first of the two-match Test series against the West Indies by seven wickets, Bangladesh’s captain Shakib Al Hasan said the batting performance in this Test is not acceptable to him.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Bangladesh scored only 103 with six ducks— the fate they endured for the second time in two Tests, and after that, they amassed 245 in the second innings.
Be it the top-order or the middle-order, Bangladeshi batters failed to impress in every position. However, Shakib recorded a fifty in each innings and Nurul Hasan Sohan hit a fifty in the second innings. Apart from these two, every other batter failed with the bat.
Read: Dismal batting hand Bangladesh yet another Test defeat
“It’s not acceptable,” Shakib said about the performance of the batters after the match. “We are doing it regularly in Tests now. In the last five or four Tests, we have done it. We need to work on our batting and get better. At least we can survive in Tests if we can bat well.”
Shakib seemed to be happy with the performance of Nurul who failed to score anything in the first innings, but hit a fifty in the second. Shakib said the other batters should learn their lesson from Nurul and perform accordingly.
“He was under pressure, but he took the challenge and proved his character. I think every other batter should learn from his performance. I hope they will learn from Nurul and play well in the next match,” Shakib said.
While batters failed to impress in the first match, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Khaled Ahmed did well with the ball. The right-arm spinner, Mehidy, bagged four wickets in the first innings, and in the second, Khaled took all three wickets that the hosts lost.
In the ongoing tour, Bangladesh will play one more Test, three ODIs and three T20Is.

Tigers left to rue dismal batting on day 1
Dhaka, Jun 19 (UNB) — Poor batting handed Bangladesh a seven-wicket defeat in the first Test of the two-match series against West Indies on Sunday at Antigua.
The hosts started day 4 needing only 35 runsto win the match and they scored the required runs playing seven overs on the fourth day. John Campbell hit Najmul Hossain Shanto for a six over the long-on in the 22nd over and sealed the match.
Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood remained unbeaten for 58 and 26 respectively.
Bangladesh scored only 103 runs after being sent to bat first in this match after losing the toss. Six of Bangladesh’s batters got 'ducks'— the first instance of a Test team registering six ducks in consecutive Test matches.
The previous Test when six Bangladeshi batters failed to score even a single run was the second Test against Sri Lanka last month.
Shakib Al Hasan, who returned as Bangladesh captain, hit a fifty and riding on that, Bangladesh passed the 100-run mark in the first innings. Tamim Iqbal (29) and Liton Das were the other two batters to have scored a double-digit total.
Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph scalped three wickets each.
In reply, West Indies scored 265 runs with the fifties from Kraigg Brathwaite (94),
Jermaine Blackwood (63), and secured a lead of 162 runs. For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged four wickets conceding 59 runs.
Bangladeshi fielders were also sloppy. They missed at least four catches. Had they not missed those, the hosts might have not been able to secure a big lead.
In the second innings, Bangladesh’s top order failed to impress once again. They lost four wickets in the first session of day three which nearly confirmed a defeat for the visitors.
Read: WI vs BAN 1st Test 2022: Shakib-Nurul's record partnership help Bangladesh avoid innings defeat
Shakib and Nurul Hasan Sohan added 122 runs in the seventh wicket stand that helped Bangladesh to avoid an innings defeat. But they managed only a paltry lead of 83 runs.
Kemar Roach, the premium pacer of the hosts, has registered a five-wicket haul in the second innings. It was his tenth five-wicket haul in the format.
In pursuit of a target of 84 runs, West Indies lost three wickets for just 9 runs as Khaled Ahmed shone with the ball. He bagged all three wickets that the hosts lost at the end of day three.
But John Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood assured that the host would not lose any further wickets to end day three.
“We have suffered so many soft dismissals in this match,” Russell Domingo, Bangladesh’s head coach told the media after the play of day three. “We have scored only 103 in the first innings and 245 in the second, none was enough for us. I believe the players are suffering from a lack of confidence. Players like (Najmul Hossain) Shanto and Mominul (Haque) have no confidence. In cricket, you need the confidence to do well.”
The hosts started day four aiming to score only 35 runs to seal the match and lead the series 1-0, and they did it comfortably without losing any further wickets.
The second Test of the series will be played from June 24 at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. After that, both teams will lock horns in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.

WI vs BAN 1st Test 2022: Shakib-Nurul's record partnership help Bangladesh avoid innings defeat
Bangladesh were in danger of conceding an innings defeat in the WI vs BAN 1st Test 2022 after a horrible batting display in the first innings. They did, however, manage to come back in the second innings thanks to a record-breaking stand between captain Shakib Al Hasan and wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan Sohan for the seventh wicket. The visiting side were bowled out for 245 runs after giving the hosts an 84-run target to win the contest. Let’s take a look at the match scenario for the Bangladesh versus West Indies first Test 2022.
Bangladesh vs West Indies Test Series 2022: First Match Scenario
The West Indies lost three early wickets with only nine runs on the board. The pacer Khaled Ahmed came out with a lot of aggression and removed Kraigg Brathwaite, Rayman Reifer, and Nkrumah Bonner within the first four overs of the Windies innings. At that stage, the West Indies were in real trouble and Bangladesh's campaign was energized to put even more pressure on the Caribbean side.
An unbeaten fourth-wicket stand between John Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood helped the West Indies to calm things down. The Caribbean team finished day three with 49/3 on board. They only require 35 more runs to clinch the contest.
Read IND vs SA 2022: India, South Africa Gear Up for T20I Series Decider
Earlier, West Indies could have finished the match on day 3 had they managed to bowl Bangladesh out for 161 runs. The Caribbean side had created that opportunity after sending six opposition batters for 109 runs. However, Bangladesh fought back brilliantly when Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan batted at the crease. They made 123 runs together in the seventh wicket and propelled Bangladesh to get past the 200-run barrier as well as avoid an embarrassing innings defeat.
Both Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan Sohan made fifty. Nurul was the top scorer with 64, while Shakib made 63. Nurul, in particular, had shown patience as he faced 147 deliveries in his innings. Shakib, on the other hand, was a bit aggressive in his approach.
When the Shakib-Sohan partnership was broken, Bangladesh were at 232. After that, Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 245. Veteran pacer Kemar Roach was the most successful bowler for West Indies as he picked up five wickets in the second innings.

IND vs SA 2022: India, South Africa Gear Up for T20I Series Decider
India made a great comeback in the third and fourth matches of the IND vs SA 2022 Twenty20 International series, leveling the 5-match series 2-2. The series winner will therefore be decided by the fifth game, which will take place in Bangalore. The Indian team presently has the momentum to win the series after two consecutive victories. However, South Africa have the strength and enough reasons to steal the series from the home team. The fifth T20I match preview is discussed in this article.
India vs South Africa T20I Series 2022: Fifth Match Preview
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore will host the fifth game in the ongoing IND vs SA 2022 T20I series on June 19, (Sunday). The game will begin at 7.30 p.m. (Bangladesh Standard Time). This venue has hosted fourteen games thus far. India's performance at this stadium hasn't been impressive; they have won two of five games here. On the other side, South Africa prevailed in their match against India in September 2019. Let's look at the present scenarios for both squads.
India
The Indian campaign was shocked after losing the first two matches of the series. Their bowlers weren’t effective, especially the spinners. The spin department is India’s biggest strength, especially at home against SENA countries. However, they have been a huge disappointment so far in this series against South Africa. It’s the fast bowlers who have done most of the hard work in bowling to help the hosts stay alive in the series. They will once again be important for them in the do-or-die contest on Sunday.
Read Tamim becomes fastest Bangladeshi to score 5000 runs in Test
India's batting has suffered in their absence of Rohit and Virat. Young prospect Ishan Kishan has done well as an opener, giving the team a good start. They need someone in the middle to step up and do the job when quick runs are required. Veteran Dinesh Karthik, who had a good season in the IPL 2022, did the job for India in the fourth match. Karthik will once again be key for the hosts. India’s playing XI will likely remain unchanged for the fifth match.
Predicted Playing XI
Top Order: Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer;
Middle Order: Rishabh Pant (captain & wk), Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar;
Lower Order: Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal.
South Africa
South Africa’s middle order is very strong and they have proved that in this series against India. With Van der Dussen, Klaasen and Miller, the Proteas national side has the players to devastate the opposition bowling attack. The visiting side’s main area of concern is their front-line bowlers. None of them have had particularly great outings so far in the series. This could halt their quest to win the fifth match in order to seal the series. The South African team will be counting on their best bowlers to perform for the team.
Read BAN vs WI 1st Test 2022: Can Tigers avoid Innings defeat?
The aggressive-minded wicket-keeper batter, Quinton de Kock, missed two matches in the series due to an injury but made a return in the fourth match. He will be available for the series-decider, but De Kock hasn’t scored a fifty-plus score in his previous six matches, which is a concern for him. If De Kock finds his usual form in this match, he can give a perfect start for the Proteas side. One big concern for the visiting side is the injury of captain Temba Bavuma. Reeza Hendricks can take his place for this match if he is unavailable for selection.
Predicted Playing XI
Top Order: Temba Bavuma (captain), Quinton de Kock, Dwaine Pretorius;
Middle Order: Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada;
Lower Order: Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi.
Pitch and Weather Prediction
Chinnaswamy Stadium is a well-known sporting arena. If batters can trust the pitch, they can score big and amass a huge total. On the other hand, bowlers may thrive and pose a threat to batters. There is a 70% probability of rain in Bangalore on Sunday. As a result, the game may be interrupted due to bad weather.
Read ENG vs NED 1st ODI 2022: England break world record against Netherlands
Bottom Line
Multiple records have been broken in the ongoing Twenty20 series between India and South Africa. South Africa's most successful run chase and lowest-ever T20I score, as well as India's biggest win against South Africa, are notable ones. Will there be more records broken in the series-decider? However, the most important thing for both sides is to win the fifth match, since the winning team will win the IND vs SA 2022 T20I series 3-2.

Khaled shines but Bangladesh on verge of defeat
Right-arm pacer Khaled Ahmed bagged three wickets inside 11 deliveries in the fourth innings of the Antigua Test against the West Indies on Saturday.
Despite Khaled’s impressive bowling, Bangladesh are on the verge of a defeat in this Test with the West Indies needing only 35 runs with seven wickets and six sessions in hand.
The hosts had secured a lead of 162 runs after their first innings in reply to Bangladesh’s first innings total of 103. In their second innings, Bangladesh lost four wickets in the morning session of day three which hinted that Bangladesh would suffer an innings defeat.
But Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan Sohan added 122 runs in the seventh wicket that helped the Tigers to avoid an innings defeat and they managed a paltry lead of 83 runs.
Both Shakib and Sohan scored fifty each. They managed to play the entire middle session without losing a wicket. But right after the tea break, both of them fell victim to Kemar Roach.
Shakib had a fifty in the first innings of this Test too while it was only the second fifty for Sohan in Tests.
Kemar Roach, the premium pacer of the hosts, bagged five-for— his tenth in the format.
In pursuit of 84, West Indies lost three just for 9 runs and all of them were victims of Khaled. The right-arm pacer made it tough for the hosts what seemed to be a cakewalk for them.
After Khaled displayed a ray of hope for the Tigers, John Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood made sure that they would not suffer further setbacks. At the end of day three, West Indies were batting at 49 for three.
This series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship. Bangladesh have only one win in this event which came against New Zealand earlier this year. But after that, the Tigers failed to win any other Test.
In the ongoing tour, Bangladesh will play a total of two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.

BCB's Facebook page fills gap left by sports channels
Spectators in Bangladesh will now be able to watch the Test match between the Tigers and the Caribbeans live on Facebook, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said Saturday.
The ongoing match in Antigua can be watched through the official Facebook page of the BCB – Bangladesh Cricket: The Tigers.
Read: BCB eyes to vaccinate domestic cricketers ahead of new season
However, the BCB did not confirm if the cricket fans can watch all the two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is the same way.
No Bangladeshi television channel showed interest in broadcasting the Test series, despite three channels masquerading as specialised sports broadcasters (T Sports, GTV, Channel 9).
It was the first time since 2001 that a Test match involving Bangladesh wasn't being broadcast in the country.
The only legal way to watch the series was the website of the ICC with a $2 subscription.
So, the new initiative of the BCB came as a relief for many fans who were unable to watch the match live on television.
