Tigers now eye series victory against South Africa
With the series on the line, Bangladesh are looking forward to sealing the series against South Africa on Sunday in Johannesburg while the hosts will have to bounce back to stay alive in the race.
In the first match in Centurion, Bangladesh displayed an ideal team effort to overcome the challenge of beating the Proteas at their home backyard which the Tigers were never able to do in previous 19 attempts.
Now, the Tigers have a rare chance to beat South Africa in an ODI series away from home. Tamim Iqbal-led team is eager to grab the chance with two hands.
Bangladesh’s formidable batting laid the groundwork for the solid performance. Liton Das and Tamim managed a decent start before Shakib Al Hasan and Yasir Ali grabbed the limelight.
The late-order batters also did well with a sparkling batting show that helped Bangladesh post a total exceeding the 300-run mark.
While bowling, Bangladesh managed to have early breakthroughs that helped them to put pressure on the hosts straightaway. South Africa were never able to come out from that position.
Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam were the bowlers who put the initial pressure on the South African batters, and later on, Mehidy Hasan Miraz made it tough for the hosts to bounce back in the match. The right-arm spinner bagged three wickets.
At the end of the match, the Bangladesh captain said Mehidy asked the captain to give him the ball saying he would put more pressure on the hosts.
Ahead of the second match, Mehidy said the tremendous form in ODI cricket gave them the courage to dream big.
“You cannot achieve if you don’t dream big,” he said on Saturday. “We now want to win big things— be it the Asia Cup or World Cup. For now, we want to win more series abroad as we normally do at home.

Bangladesh created history in South Africa after winning the first match by 38 runs against the hosts in Centurion on Friday (March 18). This was a historic match since Bangladesh had never beaten South Africa in their own territory prior to yesterday's match. Bangladesh's players have a really high level of confidence right now. The second ODI preview of the SA vs BAN series 2022 is discussed in this article.
Second ODI Match Preview of SA vs BAN Series 2022
Bangladesh performed well as a team in the first ODI, allowing them to win against a formidable South African side. They must be even more aware and put in a stronger effort against the hosts to keep the winning streak going. On the other hand, The South African team will come out with a lot of aggression in an attempt to level the series. The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will host the second match of the series on Sunday (March 20) at 2 p.m. (Bangladesh Standard Time).
Bangladesh
Bangladesh's batting and bowling both looked impressive in the first match of the series, and they were victorious. They dominated for most of the game. Bangladesh have to keep the momentum going into the second match. The openers are anticipated to be solid, and the team is counting on them to get off to a good start. Shakib, Mushfiqur, and Yasir will be able to play more freely in the middle overs if they can give a good platform. Down the batting order, Riyad, Afif, and Miraz can all play powerful strokes and help Bangladesh score big.

Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam will be vital for Bangladesh in bowling. The Proteas batters may have a difficult time dealing with their bowling lines and lengths. Among others, Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mehidy Miraz are capable at various stages of the innings. The bowling unit has to maintain consistent pressure on South African batters. Bangladesh are most likely to use the same lineup in the second encounter as in the first.
Probable playing XI
Top Order: Tamim Iqbal (Captain), Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan.
Middle-Orders: Mushfiqur Rahim (Wicket-Keeper), Yasir Ali, Mahmudullah Riyad, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Lower-Order: Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam.

South Africa
The South African bowlers did not play to their full potential in the first encounter. The South African team has to take early wickets in order to put pressure on Bangladesh. In an attempt to do this, they must improve their accuracy and consistency when bowling against Bangladesh in the second match.
South Africa lost too many wickets early in the innings in the opening match, putting pressure on the middle order. The top orders must perform well in the second meeting for a better start. If the top order succeeds, the middle orders will have an easier time completing the remaining tasks. The South African team management may make a few changes to the players that played in the first ODI.
Probable Playing XI
Top Order: Kyle Verreynne (Wicket-keeper), Janneman Malan, Temba Bavuma (Captain).
Middle Orders: Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius.
Lower Order: Tabraiz Shamsi, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi.

Johannesburg’s Weather and Pitch Report
The match will likely be played in overcast weather with a minimal probability of rain, according to Sunday's projections. The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg is typically thought of as a sporting venue where both batters and bowlers receive enough support. Batters usually have a good time with the bat, while bowlers benefit from the bounce.
Verdict
No one had placed a bet on Bangladesh against South Africa prior to the ODI series. Everyone expected South Africa to win the series easily, with Bangladesh putting up no challenge. Because Bangladesh's record in South Africa prior to this series was dismal.
However, after winning the first match of the series, Bangladesh have shown to the cricket world that they are a far better team than they were before. As a result, Bangladesh are now favourite to win the SA vs BAN series 2022. Oppositely, the South African team must come up with a strategy to put the Bangladesh team on the back foot in order to win the do-or-die match in Johannesburg on Sunday.

SA vs BAN 2022: Bangladesh Make Big Statement with Brilliant Win over South Africa
Bangladesh made history by defeating South Africa for the first time in South Africa in the first ODI of the bilateral series. Bangladesh had to wait 20 years and 20 matches to win their first match against South Africa on South African soil. The roaring tigers beat the Proteas by 38 runs in front of their home fans at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday, (March 18). This victory will undoubtedly boost the visiting team's confidence for the remainder of the series. Let's have a look at how Bangladesh clinched the first ODI of the SA vs BAN 2022 series.
Match Report: South Africa-Bangladesh First ODI 2022
An amazing one-day victory against South Africa is a huge achievement for Bangladesh cricket after winning a Test match against New Zealand at home last January. Moreover, the team tigers' rapid growth in cricket sends a strong message to the International Cricket Council that Bangladesh are on its way to becoming a competitive cricket nation.
Bangladesh Innings
The chasing team has a higher success rate at SuperSport Park in Centurion because the ground is somewhat smaller and more conducive to batters. Therefore, chasing is easy on this well-known ground. Taking these factors into account, the South African captain, Temba Bavuma decided to bat first against Bangladesh. However, the Proteas bowlers failed to capture early wickets in Bangladesh's innings, allowing the openers to build a solid partnership.

Tamim and Litton put on a 95-run opening stand in 21.3 overs. Both players appeared to be sturdy in the center and on their way to making big plays. But both openers fell in the space of one over, and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim followed them to the pavilion a few overs later. Even after a strong start, Bangladesh were reduced to 124/3. A big partnership was required for a competitive total, and Shakib-Yasir's 115-run stand helped Bangladesh break the 200-run barrier quickly.
Shakib Al Hasan set the tone for the remainder of the batters by smashing a strong 77 in the middle. On the other side, Yasir Ali made a quick-fire 50. Following their departures, Mahmudullah Riyad (25), Afif Hossain (17), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (19*) produced key innings in the middle-order to enable Bangladesh to reach 314/7. South Africa's Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj both took two wickets.
South Africa Innings
The South Africans should have had no trouble chasing down 315 runs to win the match. However, the hosts lost three quick wickets for only 36 runs, putting them under a lot of pressure. At the start of the innings, medium-pacer Taskin Ahmed was superb with the ball. He took two out of the three batters.

Following that, skipper Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen attempted to rebuild the innings with an 85-run partnership. Their collaboration brought the total to 121. Pacer, Shoriful Islam ended the partnership by taking Bavuma's wicket. South Africa was still in contention when Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller were at the crease. However, South Africa's hopes were dashed when both batters went to the pavilion.
South Africa lost all of their wickets for 276 runs in 48.5 overs. Rassie van der Dussen scored the most runs with 86, followed by David Miller with 79. Bangladesh's Taskin Ahmed was crucial at the start of the innings, while Mehidy Miraz finished the job by capturing the South African tail-enders. Miraz got the most wickets with four, while Taskin took three.
Player of the Match
Shakib Al Hasan was awarded player of the match. His counter-attacking 77 off 64 balls innings spurred the remainder of Bangladesh's middle order to score big against South Africa.

Way Forward
Prior to the first ODI, the Bangladesh limited-overs cricket team was under pressure to put up a brave effort against South Africa in order to exhibit their progress on the international stage. Therefore, the BCB added a pair of former South African internationals to the Tigers' ODI coaching staff. These arrangements worked perfectly in the first match, as Bangladesh shocked the home team with a comfortable victory. This win is undoubtedly a momentous occasion for Bangladesh cricket. Hopefully, many more successes will follow in the coming years on South African soil. Bangladesh will be eying to wrap up the ODI format SA vs BAN 2022 series when the two teams meet on Sunday (March 20) in Johannesburg.

Team Tigers beat SA to create history
Bangladesh scripted history by beating South Africa in the first of the three-match ODI series in Centurion. And none other than Shakib Al Hasan, who wanted to skip this series altogether, guided the Tigers to the win away from home.
Before this match, Bangladesh played 19 matches in South Africa but failed to win a single one. But this time, the Tigers were eager to change history as captain Tamim Iqbal insisted ahead of the match.
Earlier this year, Bangladesh beat New Zealand in a Test away from home, and now this win in South Africa has only helped bolster the team's confidence.
In fact, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh bagged 95 runs in the opening stand — their highest against South Africa. While Tamim returned scoring 41, Liton Das made 50.
Both the openers returned to the dressing room in a span of nine runs. Shakib came in at number three, and Mushfiuqr Rahim at four. Shakib was firm at one end of the wicket, but Mushfiqur fell early scoring nine runs.

For the fourth wicket, Shakib and Yasir Ali added 115 runs on the board. Along the way, Shakib got his 50th fifty in ODIs and ended up on 77 while Yasir got his maiden 50 in the format.
Mahmudullah Riyad, Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan helped the Tigers pass the 300-run mark. All these three batters scored runs at strike rates exceeding 130. Mahmudullah struck 25 off 17 balls while Afif and Mehidy scored 17 and 19 off 13 balls each.
For South Africa, Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj bagged two wickets each.
In reply, South Africa lost three wickets in 10 overs, and two of them were scalped by Taskin Ahmed. The right-arm pacer continued to bowl well away from home.

However, for the fourth wicket, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen added 85 runs and posed a real challenge to the Tigers. The partnership was broken by left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam who removed Bavuma for 31 off 55 balls.
For the next wicket, David Miller joined Rassie van der Dussen, and they added 70 runs on the board.
When this stand was threatening Bangladesh, Taskin struck again and removed Rassie van der Dussen for 86. David Miller continued and scored 79. He was removed by Mehidy.
Eventually, South Africa were all out for 276 in 48 overs and Tigers made history.
For Bangladesh, Mehidy bagged four wickets conceding 61 runs in nine overs while Taskin scalped three and Shoriful took two.
“It's a big win for us. Starting from Liton, then Shakib and Yasir batted brilliantly. A six and a four from Mehidy. Those quick 25 runs from Mahmudullah. Our fast bowlers are winning games for us. Last two years, the fast bowlers are doing brilliantly," Tamim, Bangladesh ODI captain, told the broadcaster after the match.
"You need a character like Mehidy in every team. After going for 40 from 4 overs, he came up to me and told me that he wanted to bowl. He said he will change the game. He was my Man of the Match,” he added.
Shakib praised Yasir for his brilliant fifty in this match. “When I spend 7-8 balls, I knew we had to score somewhere near 300. We got a good start. It was easier with the old ball. Yasir batted well and a lot of credit should go to him. He played really a good innings. It was not easy for someone who is playing his 3rd or 4th game and that too against South Africa."

Women’s World Cup: When Bangladesh snatched defeat from the jaws of victory
After scripting a historic win against Pakistan in the previous match, the Bangladesh women’s team sank to a dispiriting defeat in what should have been a cosy win against the West Indies in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup.
Bangladesh fell short of only four runs in the game at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Friday.
In the low-scoring affair, the Bangladesh women's team bowled tremendously and restricted the West Indies to 140 for nine in 50 overs.
However, with the last three wickets, the Caribbean side managed to score 70 runs which eventually helped them to better Bangladesh in this match

West Indian wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle scored an unbeaten 53 off 107 balls, which was the highest score by any West Indian batsman.
For Bangladesh, Salma Khatun and Nahida Akter bagged two wickets each. Jahanara Alam, Rumana Ahmed and Ritu Moni took one wicket each.
In reply, Bangladesh lost wicketkeeper-batter Shamima Sultana for a duck in the first over of the innings.
However, the next three batters -- Sharmin Akter, Fargana Hoque and captain Nigar Sultana -- have done well scoring 17, 23 and 25 runs, respectively.
Bangladesh reached 60 losing three wickets. While reaching 100 from 60, Bangladesh lost five more wickets, and that was the point where they slipped from the game.
Rumana and Ritu returned for a duck each, but Salma and Nahida Akter were the last lifelines for Bangladesh women scoring 23 and 25, respectively.
Bangladesh needed eight runs off the last six balls. Off the first ball of the last over, Nahida took a double, and the target came down to six runs in the last five balls. Nahida took a single in the next ball, and off the third ball, the last batter, Fariha Trisna, was bowled by Stafanie Taylor.
Bangladesh ended up on 136 for all wickets in 49.3 overs and lost the match by just four runs.

“It was a very close match. How our bowlers started was incredible. I’m pretty disappointed with our batting. We lacked partnerships and I should have played till the end," Bangladesh captain Nigar told the broadcaster after the match.
"We have to work on this going forward. We were planning to utilise the conditions and our bowlers managed to do that. We have more games to come and have to take the positives. We lack experience in such situations and if we play more then we will get better,” she added.

Shakib to play all matches during SA tour: Tamim
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was reluctant to tour South Africa despite being named in the squad.
He, however, changed his mind, went to South Africa and joined the team after rounds of drama.
Ahead of the first ODI of the series, Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal said Shakib will play all the matches.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan has earlier said that Shakib may not play all the matches as his mental condition is not good and, therefore, he might skip one or two matches.

“I know nothing about it,” Tamim said. “What I know is Shakib is here to play all the matches for Bangladesh. We have had a normal cricketing discussion- how we can play good cricket and things like that. He is eager to take to the field.”
During the Afghanistan series at home, Nazmul had said that Shakib would tour South Africa. The all-rounder also was included in the squads for both ODIs and Tests.
But a few days before travelling to South Africa, Shakib said he is not in a good mental situation to play international cricket. He also said that he is going to take a break from cricket. Following that, Jalal Yunus, the chairman of the cricket operation department of BCB said the board has rested Shakib for two months.

In a dramatic move, the board hosted a press conference with Shakib and said the all-rounder is going to play in South Africa. In that press conference, Nazmul had mentioned that Shakib may skip one or two matches during this tour.
After the three-match ODI series, Bangladesh and South Africa will take on each other in a two-match Test series as well.

Bangladesh eager to change history in South Africa: Tamim
Ahead of the three-match ODI series against South Africa starting on March 18, Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal said they are eager to change the history of doing well against the Proteas in their backyard.
The first match of the series will take place on Friday at 5pm (Bangladesh time) at SuperSport Park, Centurion. The other two matches will be played on March 20 and 23 at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg and SuperSport Park, Centurion respectively.
“All of our tours to South Africa were so tough for us,” Tamim said in the pre-series media briefing. “We are looking to change that fate, and to do that, we have to be ready to face a tough challenge and be courage. ”
Before this series, Bangladesh took on the Proteas in 19 matches in South Africa and failed to win any of those matches in all the formats of cricket. Overall, Bangladesh played 40 international matches against South Africa and won four matches.
The venue of the first match is traditionally heaven for the batters. The average total of the last 10 completed ODI innings in this venue is more than 246 runs. But Tamim said the statistics are nothing if the players don’t play well in the field.

“As the history suggests, it’s a good venue for the batters. But the main thing is to play well in the field. We have to keep this truth in mind. They will attack us from all fronts. So we have to be ready to take this challenge. We have beaten them in the World Cup. There is no reason for not doing well in this condition. We have to make a good start,” Tamim said.
This ODI series is a part of the World Cup Super League. If Bangladesh can secure some points from this match, it would help them to secure the World Cup as one of the top eight teams. In this challenge, Bangladesh are going to get the service of Shakib Al Hasan who joined the team turning his earlier decision of withdrawing himself from the tour.
“Shakib is all set to take the field for Bangladesh,” Tamim insisted on Thursday. “We have discussed how we can play our best cricket here. Every member of the team is eager to play good cricket. Apart from this, we have nothing to think about.”

“Underdogs” Bangladesh aim to create history in South Africa
Bangladesh are all set to start their ODI series against South Africa from March 18.
Ahead of the series, Russell Domingo, the head coach of Bangladesh, has said that given their past in South Africa, the Tigers are underdogs in this series.
Before this series, Bangladesh took on the Proteas in 19 matches in South Africa and failed to win any of those matches in all the formats of cricket. Overall, Bangladesh played 40 international matches against South Africa and won four matches.

“South Africa have just beaten India 3-0. We will definitely come as underdogs, having no win here before. But we are confident in our one day side and playing good one day cricket for a long period of time. The players understand their roles and what it takes, so we are expecting a competitive series,” Domingo told on Wednesday.
“South Africa will definitely start as favourites. They are in their home conditions and have a tough side to beat in South Africa. They are favourites but it suites us to be underdogs, gives us an opportunity to do something special,” he added.
Bangladesh will get the service of Shakib Al Hasan in this series. The allrounder was uncertain to take part in this tour due to mental fatigue what heearlier said. The Bangladesh coach said Shakib brings balance to the team with his experience.
“He balances our team. It’s always difficult when he is not there. You are not sure whether to pick an extra bowler or an extra batter. It is great to have playe of that caliber and experience. He has been here before. His energy, attitude and work ethic has been fantastic, so good to have him here,” Domingo said.

Over the last few years, Bangladesh became a good force in ODI cricket. Bangladesh coach said the trend of doing well in ODIs would put the Tigers in a better position than the other formats.
Ahead of the series, Bangladesh’s main concern is the form of the seniors. Especially, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib who were out of form in the last few matches. But Domingo said he doesn't like a player being a senior or junior, he rather put the onus on everyone’s shoulder.
“For me, there are no seniors or juniors. I know you talk about that aspect but for me, they are 11 players. A lot is said about seniors and juniors and for me it is unnecessary,” the Bangladesh coach added.
