Shakib could miss first Test against India
Bangladesh Test Captain Shakib Al Hasan is at risk of missing the first Test against India on Wednesday in Chattogram due to an injury sustained during the ODI series. His potential absence could be a major setback for Bangladesh, and they will be hoping he can make a speedy recovery to lead them into the crucial clash.
Shakib received a painful blow to his hand while facing the bowling of Indian fast bowler Umran Malik in the ODI series, and he is still struggling to recover from the injury. His absence would be a huge blow to Bangladesh as they prepared to face India.

Despite the injury, Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo is hopeful that Shakib will be able to participate in the upcoming Test match. The team will be crossing their fingers in the hope that he can overcome the injury and lead them in the crucial fixture.
“He is still struggling with his ribs and shoulder,” Domingo said on Tuesday while interacting with the media. “We are still assessing him.”

Shakib was instrumental to Bangladesh's success in the first ODI match of the series, taking five wickets which allowed the team to have a strong start. He is also an integral part of the Test team; losing him for the Test series would pose a tough challenge for the Tigers.
In six Tests against India, Shakib has enjoyed moderate success. He has scored 260 runs at an average of 26, taking 15 wickets with a five-for.

Bangladesh Coach warns cricketers against staying up late to watch FIFA World Cup
Bangladesh and India are all set to face off in the first Test of their two-match series on Wednesday in Chattogram. Ahead of this match, Russell Domingo, the Bangladesh coach, warned that it would be foolish for the cricketers to stay up the night before the match day to watch the FIFA World Cup.
Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo, however, has discouraged the idea of staying up late and watching the World Cup match, calling it "stupid". He believes that the cricketers should focus on the Test match and be well-rested ahead of it.

Keeping it in mind, Bangladesh's coach warned the players from doing so.
“We have to go to bed early, simple as that,” Domingo said. “You can’t be watching football till three in the morning and play the Test that starts at 9:30 am. It is stupid. I’d be disappointed if they did.”
Bangladesh and Argentina share an extraordinary passion for football. With millions of ardent Argentina fans in Bangladesh, the country shows its support and admiration for the team like no other.
The widespread enthusiasm of Argentinian supporters in Bangladesh has recently garnered international media attention. Even Argentina's own media outlets have highlighted the fervour of their Bangladeshi fans.

It would not be surprising if some Bangladeshi players stayed up all night to watch a cricket match, even if they had to take the field in the morning for a Test match against India.
Ahead of the Test series, Bangladesh faced off India in a three-match ODI series and won by 2-1. It was only the second time when Bangladesh beat India in an ODI series.

Taskin uncertain for Bangladesh vs India 1st Test
Bangladeshi fast bowler Taskin Ahmed’s participation in the first Test of the two-match series against India — starting on December 14 in Chattogram — is uncertain.
After being unavailable for the first two ODIs of the three-match series against India in Dhaka, he featured in the last ODI in Chattogram, suffering yet another injury that might hinder his performance and put his involvement in the upcoming Test in question.
“I just returned from an injury,” Taskin said during a media interaction on Monday. “The team management is concerned about my fitness.”

Taskin has expressed uncertainty regarding his availability for the upcoming first Test of the series, citing his injury and lingering doubts about his fitness levels.
In the last ODI of the series that Bangladesh ultimately lost by a large margin, Taskin conceded 89 runs in nine overs — it was the worst bowling figure he had ever recorded in the format. It was clear that the pacer was not at the peak of his form.
The second and last Test of the series will be played in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the first Test due to an injury he sustained in the second ODI in Dhaka, which led to his absence from the Indian team in the third ODI.
Along with Rohit, the Indian team will also be without pace-bowler Mohammad Shami and allrounder Ravindra Jadeja for the first Test, although they may be available for the second Test in Dhaka.
Both teams had engaged in a three-match ODI series ahead of the Test series that Bangladesh ultimately won by 2-1. This marked the second ODI series win for Bangladesh over India, with the first victory coming in 2015.

BAN vs IND Test Series 2022: Test Championship Scenarios, Squads, Fixtures, Venues, Head-to-Head Record
The BAN vs IND Test Series 2022 is all set to begin on Wednesday, December 14, when the two sides will face off against each other for the first match. The series is massively important for the Indian team, as they will compete in order to improve their position in the standings in their quest for the 2021-2023 ICC Test Championship’s final next year. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have a realistically slim chance of improving its current position in the points table. The Tigers will therefore play the series to improve their overall performance in the longer-version format.
What’s the current scenario for the 2021–2023 ICC Test Championship?
The second edition of the ICC Test Championship has reached its business end. Nine teams have competed in the two-year-long tournament. Teams with realistic chances of reaching the final next year may find that their remaining fixtures are do-or-die affairs. In that regard, the BAN vs IND Test Series 2022 is critical for the fourth-placed Indian side.
Read More: Ishan rips up ODI record books to hand Bangladesh 227-run defeat in dead rubberThe Indian side has six matches in hand, including the series against Bangladesh. By looking at the current scenario of the 2021–2023 ICC Test Championship points table and the remaining fixtures, India can’t afford to lose points against Bangladesh in the upcoming series. The Indian side will take on Australia for a 4-match series at home after this one. Since Australia are one of the top contenders for next year’s championship match, the Indian campaign shouldn’t expect to fully dominate the series. India's primary goal in the away series against Bangladesh will therefore be to capture all 24 points.
The host country of the series, Bangladesh, are currently in the bottom position in the points table with only 13.33 PCT. The Tigers' one major victory so far in the ongoing Test Championship has come against New Zealand earlier this year in Mount Maunganui, where they thumped the Kiwi side by 8 wickets.Apart from that historic victory, Bangladesh’s journey in the 2021–2023 ICC Test Championship has been unsatisfactory. They have conceded defeats in eight matches, won one game, and drawn another against Sri Lanka. In the majority of the matches, Bangladesh suffered huge defeats, showing their shortcomings in the longer-version format. With only two matches left in the second edition of the Test Championship, Bangladesh have practically no chance of improving their current position in the points standings. They are most likely to finish at the bottom of the standings. The Bangladesh campaign, therefore, will be hoping to improve their performance level in the Test format during the India series.
Among the other teams, Australia are currently holding the top spot with 75 PCT. The Australian side’s participation in the second edition of the Test Championship’s final is almost confirmed, as they have seven matches still in hand.South Africa and Sri Lanka are in second and third positions, respectively, in the points table and fighting for a place in the final. But the Proteas side has more games in hand than Sri Lanka, and they seem to be the main rival for India in their quest for the final berth.Pakistan, England, the West Indies, and New Zealand are currently in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth positions, respectively, and they are unlikely to make the final.

Bottom Line
India must defeat Bangladesh in both games to remain steadfast in its pursuit of the ICC Test Championship final. As a result, the Bangladesh team should be ready to face an aggressive Indian team during the BAN vs IND Test Series 2022. Bangladesh have little to gain from the Test Championship, and therefore the cricketers must concentrate on improving their performance in the longer-version format during the series.

Ishan rips up ODI record books to hand Bangladesh 227-run defeat in dead rubber
Bangladesh folded for 182 in 34 overs while chasing India's 410-run target in the last match of their three-match ODI series Saturday in Chattogram.
Put in to bat first, India, powered by Ishan Kishan's 210 off 131 runs with 24 fours and 10 sixes and Virat Kohli's 44th ODI ton, scored 409-8 in 50 overs.
Ishan became the fastest player to reach an ODI 150 and 200, with a remarkable display of power-hitting.
Despite losing Shikhar Dhawan early, India were not troubled at all Ishan and Virat combined to add 290 runs in the second wicket stand – the second-best ODI partnership on Bangladesh soil.
India's 409 was the highest ODI total against Bangladesh and the highest on the country's soil.
Taskin Ahmed, playing his first match in the series, took two wickets. Ebadot Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan also took two wickets each, but unfortunately, their efforts were not enough to restrict India to an achievable total.
In response, Anamul Haque and Liton Das attempted to get off to a swift start but were unsuccessful in doing so. Anamul became the first man to fall, scoring eight runs off seven balls with a six. Liton fell for 29 of 26 balls, hitting 4 fours and one six.
Shakib was Bangladesh's star performer with the bat, scoring 43 off 50 balls with four fours. Yasir Ali and Mahmudullah Riyad both got off to a good start but were unable to keep up the momentum against India's quality bowling attack.
Mushfiqur Rahim continued his run of poor form. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who had been Bangladesh's hero in the first two matches, failed to show his batting prowess in the third match and was sent back for three.
In the end, Bangladesh were all out for 182 and suffered a 227-run defeat – the second-biggest defeat in ODIs based on the margin of runs.
Despite the defeat in the last match, Bangladesh have taken the series after winning the first two matches on Dhaka's challenging surface.
Now the two teams have set their sights on a two-match Test series, starting with the first match on December 14 in Chattogram, followed by the second match in Dhaka on December 22.

Riding on Ishan’s double ton, India post a massive 409 vs Bangladesh
Ishan Kishan, the left-handed Indian batter, achieved a historic milestone on Saturday in Chattogram by registering his first-ever century in an ODI match against Bangladesh and converting it to an impressive double-century.
Riding on his remarkable fate that came up with the fastest ODI 150 and 200, India posted a massive total of 409 for eight— the best-ever ODI innings against Bangladesh. It was the highest-ever ODI innings on the soil of Bangladesh as well.
Ishan was called upon to take the place of Rohit Sharma in the playing XI for this match, following Sharma's injury in the previous match in Dhaka, which ultimately ruled him out of the series.
The 24-year-old Ishan opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan; however, the latter fell to Mehidy Hasan Miraz soon after Bangladesh successfully reviewed an umpiring decision in their favor.

In response to the early loss of Dhawan, Ishan and Indian batting legend Virat Kohli then combined to engineer a record-breaking partnership of 290 runs for the second wicket - the second-highest partnership in ODIs in Bangladesh after the 292-run stand of Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal.
The 290-run partnership of Ishan and Virat surpassed the 282-run stand between Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock in Kimberley in 2017 to become the highest ODI partnership against Bangladesh.
After the early dismissal of Shikhar, Ishan went on a rampage, posting a memorable 210 runs of 131 balls, which included 24 fours and 10 sixes. His performance was highlighted by a fifty off 49 balls and a century off 85 balls (14 fours, 2 sixes).
Following Ishan's dismissal, Virat also brought up a memorable century of his own, his 44th in ODIs.
Eventually, India ended up on 409 for eight in 50 overs.

Tigers aim for a clean sweep over India
Bangladesh are all set to take on India in the third ODI on Saturday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
After winning the first two matches of the series in Dhaka, Bangladesh have capitalized on a magical batting display by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and strong bowling performances from Shakib Al Hasan and Ebadot Hossain. In the second match, Mahmdullah Riyad also shone with the bat. All eyes will be on the Bangladeshi lineup as they look to clinch a clean sweep against their longtime rivals.
Despite being placed in a precarious position on both occasions, Bangladesh were able to quickly rebound and demonstrate why they are the superior team on the challenging surfaces of Mirpur.

In a heartbreaking second match on December 7, India narrowly lost by five runs despite a heroic batting display from Rohit Sharma, who had battled through an injury to his hand. Unfortunately, this injury has ruled him out from the final ODI, and he remains uncertain for the upcoming Test series beginning on December 14 in Chattogram. The Indian team will have to rally in Sharma's absence if they hope to take the series.
“We have a much better chance with him not playing,” Shane McDermott, Bangladesh’s fielding coach, said about the unavailability of Rohit in the last match. “He is such a high-caliber player. I was a bit surprised that he didn’t come to bat earlier (in the second game).”
It was only the second ODI series win over India for Bangladesh, with the first one coming in 2015.
As Bangladesh aim to achieve a rare clean sweep over India, their bowling-all-rounder Washington Sundar expressed that they were anticipating a fiercely competitive series. The Bangladeshi team have been in formidable form during the series, and it remains to be seen if India can make a comeback and salvage the final match.

Zakir Hasan, 24, has been rewarded for his exceptional performance in the longer form of cricket.
He will join the Bangladesh Test squad for the first time in the Tigers' first match against India starting on December 14 in Chattogram.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 17-member squad on Thursday evening.
Tamim Iqbal will not be a part of the squad due to a groin injury that sidelined him prior to the ODI series. In his absence, Liton Das will lead the Tigers.
Last week, Zakir put on a remarkable display by scoring 173 runs that saved an unofficial Test for the Bangladesh A team against India A in Cox's Bazar.

The left-handed batter had an outstanding performance in the last edition of the National Cricket League. He scored 442 runs at an average of over 56, a remarkable feat in Bangladesh's biggest first-class cricket event.
Zakir could be an asset for Bangladesh in the longer format of cricket. He scored over 4,000 runs from 68 first-class matches at an average of 41.52, with 13 centuries and 14 fifties. His List-A record is also impressive, with two centuries and 16 half-centuries from just 94 matches and an average of 28.86.
However, the 24-year-old has not been as successful in the T20s as in other formats, scoring 708 runs from 62 matches at an average of 17.70.
