“Not me, player of the match is Stokes”: Curran after T20 victory against Pakistan
English fast bowler Sam Curran has been outstanding throughout the T20 World Cup 2022. He conceded only 12 runs in the final and bagged three wickets against Pakistan that helped England to put pressure on Pakistan early on.
Curran has been awarded the player of the final, but while receiving the award, he said Ben Stokes deserves it more.
“I don't think I should be getting this,” Curran said. “I think Ben Stokes should get this.”
Curran, the left-arm pacer, ended up taking 13 wickets in six matches. He has also been awarded the player of the tournament. His bowling was one of the highlights of this T20 World Cup.

“The big square boundaries, so I knew my bowling would work with big boundaries. I mixed it up with slower balls to make it tough for the batter. Incredibly special (to win the World Cup,” Curran added. “We all look up to him (Stokes). People question him (about the final of 2016) but he's incredible.”
Allrounder Stokes scored an unbeaten 52 and scored the winning run for England. He failed to defend 24 runs in the final of the 2016 World Cup in Kolkata. After six years, he is the hero of England’s victorious World Cup campaign.

Stokes leads England to T20 World Cup championship
England Lions have won the T2o World Cup 2022, beating Pakistan by five wickets in the final in Melbourne on Sunday.
Pakistan lost their key bowler while defending 40 runs in the last five overs of the match and failed to turn the table, despite giving many headaches to the English batsmen in a low-affair game.
Before leaving the field with his head down and hands on the head, Shaheen Afridi conceded only 13 runs in his first two overs. He came back to bowl his third over, which was the 16th over of England’s innings, but could only bowl a delivery and left the field. A knee injury became a killer moment for the bowler.
Iftekhar Ahmed came to bowl the last five deliveries of that over and conceded 13 runs, and that was the point where Pakistan lost all the control.
Eventually, England sealed the match with five wickets and one over to play. Ben Stokes led the way for the Lions hitting his first fifty in T20Is. He remained unbeaten for 52.
Stokes got a great redemption for his failure of defending 24 runs in the final of 2016 against the West Indies. After six years of that nightmarish over in Kolkata, Stokes scored the World Cup-winning run for England in Melbourne.
England is now the first and only team to win both the white-ball World Cups at the same time.

Earlier, England won the toss and sent Pakistan to bat first.
Babar Azam-led team failed to post a challenging total on the board. They lost wickets on regular intervals and never looked to offer some challenge to the English bowling attack.
Sam Curran, the England speedster, continued to shine and bagged three wickets just conceding 12 runs in four overs. He was the highlight of England’s controlled bowling in the final.
Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan have also done well with the ball picking up two wickets each.
Pakistan lost Mohammad Rizwan inside the powerplay, and young Muhammad Haris was also sent back early. From the begging of their innings, Pakistan's batting lineup has looked sluggish.
Curran scalped the first wicket of Rizwan, and then Rashid came to the scene and picked up the wickets of Haris and Babar.
Babar was opening his arms, but a googly from Adil did the trick for England. Babar fell for 32 off 28 balls.
After Babar’s dismissal, the onus was on Iftekhar Ahmed and Shan Masood to keep the scorecard afloat. But Iftekhar failed to deliver in the final. He suffered a duck and fell prey to Ben Stokes.

Pakistan’s dismal batting continued after that. Shadab Khan scored 20 off 14 balls but that was enough for them to pass the 150-run mark. They were not even able to score 140 in the final.
In the first ten overs, Pakistan scored 68 for two. In the next ten overs, they scored only one run more, losing six more wickets. In the death overs, England's bowlers were as outstanding as they have been throughout the event.
Both England and Pakistan have won one title of the T20 World Cup before this final. And 30 years ago Pakistan stunned England at the same venue to win their first World Cup title under the leadership of Imran Khan. But Pakistan failed to replicate that magical performance.

Both England and Pakistan have won the T20 World Cup once before. With the kind of batting lineup the English team has, the 138-run target shouldn't be a difficult task for them to win the 2022 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan and register their second title in the format.

T20 World Cup Final: Rashid hunts Babar as Pakistan struggle
Pakistan seems to not be in a rush for the 2022 T20 World Cup final against England in Melbourne. They lost the toss and were sent to bat first.

The Pakistani captain was opening his arms, but a googly from Adil Rashid did the trick for England. Babar fell for 32 off 28 balls.

After the 13th over, Pakistan were batting at 90 for four. The lower order has to shoulder extra responsibility should Pakistan want to score more than 150 in the 2022 T20 World Cup final against England.

T20 World Cup 2022: MCG gears up for repeat of classic ENG v PAK final
It was more than 30 years ago now, but the 1992 ICC ODI World Cup was an iconic sporting event, most notably for being the first of the five World Cups till then to feature coloured clothing and day/night matches under lights.
It was also the first to be held Down Under, and it ended with Imran Khan leading Pakistan to their first World Cup victory defeating England at arguably cricket's greatest arena, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, known as the MCG.
Thirty years later, with Australia now hosting the T20 World Cup for the first time, Pakistan are all set to take on England at the same venue aiming for another World Cup title on Sunday.
Pakistan marched to the final beating New Zealand in the semi while England locked the final with them thrashing India.
Both Pakistan and England had some downtime during their Super 12 matches. Pakistan lost two close matches to India and Zimbabwe while England lost to Ireland in rain rules. Despite those hard times, both teams resurrected and are now set to prove their T20 prowess at the biggest stage of the format.

Pakistan were on the verge of elimination, but they got the chance to book a place in the semi when the Netherlands beat South Africa, and then Bangladesh failed to prevent Pakistan from marching to the semi. After overcoming that cut-throat situation, Pakistan managed to beat New Zealand and set up a final against England that brought back the memories of 1992.
England were slightly calm during their matches in the Super 12 compared to their brand of white-ball cricket, but when they came to the semi, they pulled themself together and knocked India out of the World Cup in an outstanding fashion.
Ahead of the final, England are in a better position due to their bowling line up which is full of variation. But it is clear that both teams have a quality pace attack. Sam Curran is leading the charge for England while Shaheen Shah Afridi is playing the same role for Pakistan.
Rain might play spoilsport in the final as the weather forecast has suggested so far. According to the latest update, there is a 90% chance of rain when the match is scheduled to start.

The ICC rules say at least 10-over a side is needed to complete the final on the match day and on a reserve day. If the rain doesn't allow that much play, the trophy will be shared by both teams.
Ahead of this final, England and Pakistan met each other twice in the T20 World Cups and England won on both occasions.

Kiwi commercial lawyer Barclay re-elected ICC chair
The International Cricket Council (ICC) Saturday re-elected Auckland-based commercial lawyer Greg Barclay as its chair for a second two-year term.
Barclay was elected for two more years, until 2024, after Tavengwa Mukuhlani, a long-term director on the ICC board and Zimbabwe Cricket chair, pulled out of contention.
The former New Zealand Cricket chair succeeded India's Shashank Manohar in 2020.
Barclay said: "It is an honour to be re-elected as the chair of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC directors for their support."

Mukuhlani said: "I would like to congratulate Greg on his re-appointment as ICC chair, as the continuity his leadership will provide is in the best interests of the sport. I, therefore, decided to withdraw my candidacy."

Pakistan vs England T20 World Cup Final: Match Preview, H2H Stat, Venue, Probable Playing XI
The much-anticipated Pakistan vs England T20 World Cup final is all set to take place tomorrow (November 13) at the iconic MCG in Melbourne. Both sides will meet each other in an ICC World Cup final for the first time in 30 years, as this is a repeat of the 1992 World Cup final. Let’s take a look at the match preview, h2h record, venue, and probable playing XI for the championship match.
PAK vs ENG ICC Twenty20 World Cup Final 2022: Match Preview
It could be an epic battle for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons is that Pakistan and England faced each other in the 1992 50-over format World Cup final at the same venue. Pakistan won that final by beating England by 22 runs at the MCG. So, it would be a déjà vu feeling for the supporters of both teams.

Besides, Pakistan and England have recently met each other quite often and know each other's strengths and weaknesses. England played a bilateral series in Pakistan last month, which they won 4-3.
Another important factor would be the pitch. The MCG surface will almost certainly favour pace bowlers, allowing them to flourish. Therefore, faster bowlers would most likely be seen dominating over the batters.
Both England and Pakistan have reached the final after a slow start in the campaign. They finished second in their respective groups to earn a place in the knockout round and had a dominating victory over their opposition in the semifinals. The two finalists have the confidence and belief to overcome their opponents in the all-important final. Now they have to show it at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
England vs Pakistan head-to-head T20I Record
England and Pakistan have played 28 Twenty20 international matches so far between them. The English team currently leads the head-to-head duel with 18 victories, while Pakistan have 9 victories. England came out on top 4-3 in the most recent bilateral series between the two sides.
England vs Pakistan Twenty20 World Cup 2022 final match schedule
The Twenty20 World Cup 2022 final match between Pakistan and England will take place at the MCG in Melbourne on November 13 as per schedule. The championship contest will kick off at 2 p.m. (Bangladesh Standard Time). If the rain halts the match, there is a reserve day to finish the final.

ENG vs PAK T20 World Cup 2022 final match venue: Melbourne Cricket Ground’s T20I stats
Eighteen Twenty20 international matches have been staged at the MCG so far. Here are some important Twenty20 International stats for the Melbourne ground.

MCG’s weather on Sunday and pitch report
There is a strong prediction of rain on Sunday in Melbourne; therefore, the England vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2022 final may be halted due to inclement weather conditions. Though the ICC has kept a reserve day for the championship match. The MCG ground usually favours the fast bowlers, and on Sunday it is unlikely to behave differently. The captain who wins the toss may prefer to chase at this venue.
Pakistan vs England T20 World Cup 2022 Final: Probable playing XI
First and foremost, there is no point to making any major changes to the playing lineup unless it is a necessary one. In that context, both sides will likely field an unchanged team in the final. England may be tempted to bring in David Willey in place of Chris Jordan, who was the most expensive bowler for the side in the semifinal contest against India.
Pakistan (predicted playing XI)Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Haris, Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah AfridiEngland (predicted playing XI) Jos Buttler (captain & wicket-keeper), Alex Hales, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid

Bottom Line
The Pakistan vs England T20 World Cup final promises to be a tough battle to watch as both teams have some seriously talented T20 format players. T20 World Cup: Dominant England knock out India, to face Pakistan in final
England showed their white-ball prowess once again and knocked India out of the T20 World Cup by beating them by a massive margin of 10 wickets in the second semifinal on Thursday in Adelaide.
They will now take on Pakistan in the final, who beat New Zealand in the first semifinal on Wednesday and marched to the final.
India batted first and posted 168 riding on the fifties from Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. In reply, Alex Hales and Jos Buttler played down every threat posed by Indian bowlers and sealed the match without losing any wickets. It was a textbook example of an authoritative performance from England.
“Pretty disappointed how it turned up today,” Indian Captain Rohit Sharmay said after the match. “We batted well at the backend to get that score. We were not upto the mark with the ball, we couldn't turn up today. It's all about handling the pressure in knockout games.”

It seemed to be a testing total for England at the halfway of the match, but Hales and Buttler made it look like cakewalk. Their partnership of 170 in the opening stand is now the best (in the first wicket stand) in England’s history.
It is now the third highest-ever chase in the history of T20Is without losing a wicket. And at the same time, it is now the second-best partnership of England (in any wicket) in the format and the second-highest T20 stand against India, and the best-ever opening stand in T20 World Cups.
On their way to this partnership, Hales and Buttler surpassed the 143 that was made by Alex Hales and Michael Lumb in 2013 against New Zealand. With this stand, Alex has now been involved in all five of the top opening stands of England.
“It will be right up there for sure (referring to his inning),” Hales said after the match. “Huge occasion, India in a semifinal of a World Cup, really happy with the way I played and it is as special as it gets.”
With 168 runs to defend, India were never in a position to offer some challenge to England — Hales and Buttler never gave them even a single chance to dominate. Indian fielders were also sloppy in the middle in this match.

England were in top gear throughout the tournament, but suddenly they went supersonic in the semi against India. And that too at a venue where they suffered one of their biggest defeats in history — to Bangladesh in the 1015 World Cup. That defeat knocked them out of that World Cup.
Hales ended up scoring 86 off 47 while Buttler made 80 off 49 balls.
For India, three bowlers conceded at least 12.5 runs per over while one gave way more than 11 runs per over, and two spent more than 7.5 runs per over.
Before the imperious batting efforts from Hales and Buttler, England won the toss and sent India to bat first who posted 168 despite some slow time in the middle in the first 10 overs.
India lost Lokesh Rahul early. But Virat Kohli took control of their batting, though, Rohit Sharma was unexpectedly slow at the other end of the wicket. Virat posted 50 off 40 balls whereas Rohit’s contribution was 27 off 28 balls.
At the end of the first ten overs, India were at 62 for two, but in the next 10 overs, England leaked so many runs. Most of those runs were scored by an outstanding Hardik Pandya who posted 63 off 33 balls with four fours and six sixes.

Adil Rashid bowled well for them conceding only 20 in four overs. Chris Jordan picked up three wickets but conceded more than 40 runs, Sam Curran also gave way more than 40 runs and failed to bag any wickets in the semi-final match between IND and ENG in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.
“We always want to start fast and aggressively,” Jos Buttler, the English captain said after the match. “Rashid was batting at 11, that's incredible to know that we have such depth. Hales used the dimensions well and he has shown his form. He was brilliant today. It's important to enjoy this, it was a brilliant performance from us.”
