Sohan up for new challenges
After being named as the captain of the Bangladesh T20I team for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, Nurul Hasan Sohan Sunday said he is up for new challenges.
Bangladesh will take part in a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Sohan replaced Mahmudullah Riyad, who recently led the team in the West Indies but failed to impress.
The wicketkeeper-batter has played 33 T20I matches so far. But he is yet to cement his place in the national team.
"It's a proud moment for me," Sohan told the media. "And at the same time, it's a challenge for me. But, I'm ready for it."
The appointment of Sohan as T20I captain was a surprising move from the board. It was expected that Shakib Al Hasan would lead the team if Riyad had to be replaced.
However, Sohan has the experience of leading teams at age-level cricket. He led several teams in the Bangladesh Premier League, Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, National Cricket League and Bangladesh Cricket League.

He played 93 first-class matches along with more than a hundred List-A and T20 matches in the domestic arena.
"I do not buckle under pressure," Sohan said. "I don't think much about the past or future. What I love to do is to work hard and continue the process."
Sohan will not get the services of Tamim Iqbal, Shakib, Mushfiuqr Rahim and Riyad. Shakib is out of the team due to personal reasons; Mushfiq and Riyad have been rested. And Tamim recently announced retirement from T20s.
Bangladesh has played 128 T20I matches so far. And on only one occasion, they played without these four players.
The Tigers are scheduled to start their Zimbabwe tour on July 27. The first group of cricketers will fly for Zimbabwe on July 27 and the second group on July 30.
Bangladesh will also play a three-match ODI series against the hosts. All the matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club Ground.

BAN vs ZIM 2022: 5 Bangladeshi players who can capitalize on Zimbabwe series
Bangladesh's fringe players will get a chance to showcase their abilities on the international stage following the BCB’s decision to not include their senior players in the BAN vs ZIM 2022 T20I series. The players will have a great opportunity to impress the selectors by putting on strong performances during the series against Zimbabwe, who will be a much easier opponent. The five Bangladeshi players for whom the upcoming Zimbabwe Twenty20 International series is important are discussed in this article.
5 Bangladesh cricketers for whom the BAN vs ZIM 2022 T20I Series is important
Wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan Sohan will lead Bangladesh in place of regular captain Mahmudullah Riyad, who has rested for the series. The BCB selectors also didn’t include Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in the squad in order to provide the in-form players who have performed well in the domestic competitions a chance to prove their capability on the international stage.
This will be a great opportunity for the called-up players to show their cricketing ability against an international team. There are five cricketers who need to perform exceedingly to find a permanent spot in Bangladesh’s T20I setup.

Nurul Hasan
T20I Match: 33 | Runs: 271 | HS: 30* | Ave: 12.90 | SR: 111.98
Stand-in captain Nurul Hasan Sohan has been a regular member of Bangladesh’s Twenty20 International setup since last year. Nurul’s recent performances in the domestic white-ball competitions have been pretty impressive. However, he has failed to live up to the expectations for the national side, scoring 193 runs in 21 innings with a strike rate of 107.82. Nurul has made 17 dismissals in 24 matches as a keeper since last year.
Nurul’s position in the Bangladesh T20 squad has not yet been guaranteed. He has to become a better batter in the T20 format if he wants to be a regular member of the team. Besides, Nurul has been named captain of the side for the Zimbabwe series, and this is an added responsibility for him. The right-handed middle order batter has a decent record as a captain on the domestic circuit. If Nurul can flourish both as a captain and as a batter, he can cement his place as a crucial member of the Bangladesh T20 squad.

Anamul Haque
T20I Match: 16 | Runs: 384 | HS: 58 | Ave: 27.42 | SR: 117.79
Anamul Haque scored three ODI hundreds within his first 20 international matches and was once regarded as one of the shining stars of Bangladesh cricket. However, Anamul lost his place after the World Cup 2015 and had to wait three years to make a return to the Bangladesh national team setup. Anamul couldn’t fulfil his expectations every time he got an opportunity and was finally dropped after an ODI match against Sri Lanka in 2019.
The right-hand top-order batter recently had a brilliant outing in the DPL 2022 and was called-up for the West Indies series for the white-ball formats. Anamul has been included in the squad for the forthcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe. The series will be an important opportunity for Anamul to showcase his talent once again on the international scene. If Anamul is given the proper chance and does well with the bat, the selectors could decide to include him in the upcoming two major competitions.

Munim Shahriar
T20I Match: 3 | Runs: 23 | HS: 17 | Ave: 7.66 | SR: 74.19
Munim Shahriar wowed everyone with his aggressive batting style in the Bangladesh Premier League 2022. Munim made 178 runs in 6 innings with a strike rate of 152.13 in the BPL 2022 and earned a maiden call-up for the Bangladesh national side for the Afghanistan series.
Shahriar has been with the Bangladesh Twenty20 team since then and hasn’t made any big impact with the bat. His 23 T20I runs came in 3 innings with a very disappointing 74.19 strike rate. Munis is a talented top-order batter, but he needs to show his ability on the international stage, otherwise someone else will take his spot. Therefore, the BAN vs ZIM 2022 Twenty20 International series is very crucial for the right-handed batter.

Hasan Mahmud
Hasan Mahmud is a talented young fast bowler who has the ability to generate a decent amount of pace with the ball. Mahmud made a good impression on the selectors with his pace in the BPL season 7 and was immediately called up for the Zimbabwe series in 2020 and made his international debut.
Hasan Mahmud made his ODI debut against West Indies in January 2021 but lost his place after being hit by multiple injuries. The talented right-hand pacer has been included in the T20I series against Zimbabwe along with the other three regular starters – Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam. Therefore, finding a place in the Bangladesh playing XI will be difficult for him. If Hasan gets a chance, he should capitalize on it to re-establish his place in the Bangladesh team.
Read BAN vs ZIM T20I Series 2022: Nurul Hasan to lead young Bangladesh side
Parvez Hossain Emon
The U19 World Cup winning player, Parvez Hossain Emon, got the limelight after scoring a 42-ball century against Minister Rajshahi for Fortune Barishal in the 2020 Bangabandhu T20 Cup. He was named in Bangladesh’s T20 squad for the Pakistan series in 2021. However, the left-handed, aggressive-minded batter didn’t get a chance to make his senior debut for Bangladesh.
Parvez was named in Bangladesh’s 15-man T20I squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe series. With five top-order batters in the squad, Emon’s chances of finding a place in the team will be difficult. However, Parvez should try to cash in on the opportunity if he finds a place in the playing XI.

Aftermath
The Bangladesh national team will compete in an international series without one of its four senior players—Mamudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, and Tamim Iqbal—for the first time in many years. This is an obvious sign that veteran national team players are reaching the twilight of their cricketing careers. It's now up to the young, gifted players to take the stage and showcase their talents on the big stage.
The players who will get a chance to participate in the BAN vs ZIM 2022 Twenty20 International series should try to take advantage of the opportunity and impress the BCB selectors. The selectors would consider including them in the Bangladesh Twenty20 teams for the next Asia Cup 2022 as well as the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 if they show strong performances in the series.

Mashrafe, Mushfiq congratulate new T20 captain Sohan
Former national team captains Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mushfiqur Rahim have congratulated Nurul Hasan Sohan on becoming Bangladesh's T20 captain for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Friday announced the squads for the tour where the Tigers will play a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series from July 30 to August 10.
Sohan replaced Mahmudullah Riyad as the T20 captain. Riyad had been leading the Tigers in T20s since February 2018. He failed to guide the team to T20 victories and could not perform well with the bat in the West Indies.
"Hard work is better than talent when talent refuses to work hard. Congratulations Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan on becoming the captain of the Bangladesh T20 squad. Wish you all the luck," Mashrafe wrote on his social media profile.
"Congrats to Sohan on becoming the new T20I captain for the Zimbabwe series. The young team has my full support and I strongly believe this team will do well in the upcoming series," Mushfqiur wrote on his social media page.

Sohan regularly leads Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a 50-over format event at the domestic level of Bangladesh.
In his first assignment as the captain of Bangladesh, Sohan will have to face a tough challenge. He will not get the services of Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Riyad and Mushfiq.
Tamim recently announced his retirement from T20s. Riyad, Shakib, and Mushfiq have been rested for the T20 series.
The Bangladesh team is set to travel to Zimbabwe on July 26.
The T20I series will begin on July 30. The last two matches of the series will take place on July 31 and August 2. The first ODI will be played on August 5, and the other two matches on August 7 and 10.
Mushfiq will be part of the ODI team.

BAN vs ZIM T20I Series 2022: Nurul Hasan to lead young Bangladesh side
Mahmudullah Riyad has experienced leadership difficulties since the T20 World Cup 2021. The Bangladesh Twenty20 team under his leadership has been losing matches after matches since the mega event last year. The experienced all-rounder has also faced criticism for his limitations in making choices on the field. The BCB has decided to rest some of its senior players for the forthcoming BAN vs ZIM T20I Series 2022, including regular skipper Mahmudullah Riyad. In place of him, Nurul Hasan Sohan has been handed over the T20 captaincy role for the series. Nurul will lead a young Bangladesh side, and a number of players have made a comeback in the Twenty20 squad.
Has Nurul Hasan captained in domestic Twenty20 competitions?
Wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan Sohan never captained Bangladesh's national side on the international stage. Nurul will become the eighth captain of the Bangladesh T20I side when he leads the team in the BAN vs ZIM T20I Series 2022.
Nurul Hasan does, however, have experience of leading teams in domestic competitions and he has a very good resume as a captain. He captained Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in both List A and Twenty20 cricket competitions in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Under his leadership, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club became the unbeaten champion in the inaugural season of the Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League in 2019.

Nurul also led Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the 2021 DPL T20 tournament and finished fifth in the points table. Nurul was awarded Player of the Series for scoring 389 runs with a thundering strike rate of 149.61 and making 10 dismissals in 16 appearances.
There is no reason why Sohan can't lead the Bangladeshi national team's players given his track record in domestic competition.

BAN vs ZIM Twenty20 International Series 2022: Bangladesh Squad
The BCB selectors have decided to rest the senior players for the upcoming Zimbabwe T20I series. Therefore, captain Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiaur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan will not take part in the series. Nurul Hasan Sohan will lead the young Bangladeshi side where Parvez Hossain Emon, Hasan Mahmud, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz have been recalled for the T20 series.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are regular members of Bangladesh's ODI and Test setup. However, the selectors usually don’t consider them for the Twenty20 format, but they have been picked for the Zimbabwe series.
Hasan Mahmud made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe back in March 2020, but after that he hasn’t played a match for the national side. The right-hand pacer can generate a lot of pace with the ball, and it will be another golden opportunity for him to show his talent on the international stage.
Read ENG vs SA 2022: Revived South Africa hope to win ODI series in Manchester
Parvez Hossain Emon was picked for Pakistan's T20I series in November last year. However, he didn’t get a chance in the series. At present, Emon has the record of scoring the fastest T20 century (42 balls) by a Bangladeshi batter, a feat that he achieved during the Bangabandhu T20 Cup in 2020. This talented left-hand top-order batter has a genuine chance to showcase his true ability as a T20 batter during the Zimbabwe series.
Besides, the 15-man Bangladesh squad for the forthcoming T20I series included all the expected names. The three-match T20I series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will start on July 30 (Saturday).
Bangladesh T20I Squad for the Zimbabwe Series 2022
Nurul Hasan Sohan (captain & wicket-keeper), Litton Das, Anamul Haque, Parvez Hossain Emon, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Munim Shahriar, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud.

Bottom Line
The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s decision to hand over the captaincy role to Nurul Hasan Sohan may not be permanent. As per multiple sources, the BCB’s main choice is Shakib Al Hasan to lead the Twenty20 side, as the cricket board is now willing to drop Mahmudullah from the role. However, Nurul will get a chance to show his ability as a leader during the BAN vs ZIM T20I Series 2022. Sohan could be a prime contender to act as the next captain's deputy if he does well in the series.
The majority of the players in the Twenty20 squad are currently part of the Bangladesh T20I lineup or some of them were called up before but were unable to make their national team debuts. The selectors are keen to put together a balanced team for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022, so this is a great opportunity for the fringe players to show off their skills and impress them.

Sohan named Bangladesh's new T20I captain for Zimbabwe tour
Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan has been named the new Bangladesh captain for T20s, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
He will lead the Tigers in the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, replacing all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad, a BCB official said Friday.
Before making the decision public, the BCB selectors and high-profile directors had a meeting with Riyad.
Sohan has years of experience of leading Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, the most prestigious domestic cricket event in Bangladesh.
Regular captain Mahmudullah Riyad had been leading the Tigers in T20s since February 2018. He failed to guide the team to T20 victories and could not perform well with the bat in the West Indies.
Riyad was Bangladesh's captain in the last T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman. He led Bangladesh in 46 T20s, of which, the Tigers won 16.
Also, the all-rounder is yet to prove his mettle as a batter in T20s. He has played 33 T20s so far and scored 271 runs at an average of 12.30.
Riyad and other senior players Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim have been rested for T20Is, the BCB official said.
However, the board earlier said it would send a full-strength squad to Zimbabwe.

Mushfiqur and Hasan Mahmud will be part of the ODI team. Mushfiq missed the last series in the West Indies due to personal reasons. Right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud played his last ODI in March 2021 against Dunedin.

Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi out of 2nd Test with knee injury
Pakistan's first-Test star fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has a bruised knee and will not play in the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka starting Sunday.
The 22-year-old Afridi was the pick of the seamers from either side in the first Test, finishing with four wickets in the first innings that Pakistan won by four wickets in Galle.
Pakistan team officials confirmed Friday that he would not play in the second Test. Afridi finished on 99 Test wickets at the end of Sri Lanka's first innings and hopes of him completing the milestone of 100 wickets in the second Test ended with the injury.
Read: Pakistan lose openers after Sri Lanka post 222 in 1st Test
Afridi, fielding at mid-wicket, dived in an attempt to cut off a Dinesh Chandimal boundary on day three and was seen hobbling off the field. He was taken for scans and although there was no fracture, swelling and pain ruled him out.
Pakistan has uncapped quick Harris Rauf or seam bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf as replacements.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka brought in uncapped off-spinner Lakshitha Manasinghe after Maheesh Theekshana was ruled out of the match. Theekshana sustained a cut on his right index finger during the first Test.
The hosts also recalled Pathum Nissanka, who had tested positive for Covid-19 during the Australia series.

Asia Cup 2022 moved from Sri Lanka to UAE: Ganguly
The Asia Cup 2022 has been shifted from Sri Lanka to the UAE, according to Sourav Ganguly, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
The deepening economic and political crisis in the island nation forced the organisers to change the venue, even though Sri Lanka has successfully hosted a full tour of Australia and is now hosting a Test series against Pakistan.
However, hosting bilateral series is very different from hosting a tournament like the Asia Cup, which this time will be played in the T20 format, and will feature Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Read: Asia Cup T20 to be held in August
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had limited options regarding back-up venues considering June through September is monsoon season over most of the Indian subcontinent.
The Asia Cup will be in the UAE, as it is the only place where there will not be rains, Ganguly told the media.
However, ACC is yet to officially announce the UAE as the tournament venue.
Sri Lanka Cricket recently informed the ACC that it will not be able to host the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup T20 because of the economic and political crisis in the country.

WI vs IND ODI Series 2022: India eye whitewash, Windies aim strong show
India’s current ODI team is one of the best in the world, beating England 2-1 recently away from home. Oppositely, the West Indies ODI team is low on confidence at the moment after losing a home series 3-0 to Bangladesh this July. Needless to say, India are the overwhelming favourites to sweep the West Indies in the WI vs IND ODI Series 2022. However, the West Indian team is eager to put up a fighting display in the contest and gain confidence for future fixtures. The ODI series preview is discussed in this article.
West Indies vs India 2022: ODI Series Preview
All the matches in the WI vs IND ODI series 2022 will take place at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago. The matches will be held on July 22, 24, and 27 respectively. All of the games are slated to begin at 7.30 p.m. (Bangladesh Standard Time).
India have played plenty of ODIs at the Queen's Park Oval. They have won eleven out of twenty-one matches at this venue. Oppositely, West Indies have won twenty-five matches out of fifty-seven matches they have played so far at this ground.

West Indies
The West Indies recently suffered a home ODI series loss to Bangladesh after losing to India last February. Thus, the Caribbean team has little reason for optimism over the three-match ODI series against India that gets underway on Friday. This Windies limited-overs setup is seeking a new beginning under the leadership of Nicholas Pooran. The West Indies team will be happy to see that their efforts are making substantial progress. The confidence of the players will increase if they manage to win at least one game in the series. Besides, some of India’s regular members will miss the contest, and the Windies will try to take advantage of it.
Probable Playing XI
Top-Order: Kyle Mayers, Shai Hope, Shamarh Brooks, Middle-Order: Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran (captain & wicket-keeper), Rovman Powell, Akeal Hosein, Keemo Paul, Lower-Order: Romario Shepherd, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie
India
In their series against the West Indies, the Indian squad will be without five important players: regular captain Rohit Sharma, experienced player Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant. However, even a quick glance at the Indian team reveals the strength of their backups. With this squad, India can contend with any team in the world. The Indian team management is now concerned about the formation of the playing XI. Who should be given a spot in the playing XI can be argued as everyone has a valid argument for being included in the team. However, the main goal is to beat the Windies by a margin of 3-0, regardless of who plays for the side.
Probable Playing XI
Top-order: Shikhar Dhawan (captain), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Middle-Order: Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Lower-Order: Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal
Bottom Line
This WI vs IND ODI series 2022 could not have attracted as much attention from fans if a full-strength Indian squad had competed. Everyone anticipates a strong battle between two sides given that some regular squad players, including captain Rohit Sharma have been rested for this series. Can Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian team vanquish the Windies? Or will the Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies side upset the Indian team? The ODI series might be an exciting contest to witness if the home team performs at their highest level.

ENG vs SA 2022: Revived South Africa hope to win ODI series in Manchester
The South African team unexpectedly lost an ODI series against Bangladesh at home last March. They were keen to make a strong statement in the opening match of the ENG vs SA 2022 series that they are a well-capable one-day side. Losing regular skipper Temba Bavuma because of an elbow injury was a blow for the Proteas side prior to the series. However, stand-in captain Keshav Maharaj’s team played brilliantly in the series-opening contest and clinched the match by 62 runs. The visiting side is now aiming to seal the series at Old Trafford on Friday.
England vs South Africa 2nd ODI 2022: Match Preview
The second game of the ongoing one-day international series between England and South Africa will take place on July 22 at Old Trafford in Manchester (Friday). The contest is slated to begin at 6 p.m. (Bangladesh Standard Time).
South Africa have a solid ODI record at Old Trafford. They have won three in their last four games there. On the other hand, England have a strong record at this venue, winning twenty-seven games while losing fifteen. The Proteas team now leads the head-to-head battle with two victories after three meetings between England and South Africa at this stadium.

England
England as a team had a bad outing in the first ODI of the ENG vs SA 2022 series. Bowlers were expensive, and batters couldn’t do their job properly even after a 100-run opening wicket stand. England will need a much improved performance in the second ODI in order to stay alive in the series.
Bowlers need to be disciplined, and not allowing the opposition to construct big partnerships will be vital in the contest. England's openers had a solid start in the first match. However, the English innings started to lose momentum after their departures. England's batters need to be confident against the Proteas spinners and should focus on dominating them in this do-or-die contest.

South Africa
The South African side looked more aggressive than England in the first ODI. They tried to dominate the English side and executed their plan properly. Rassie van der Dussen brilliant hundred, Aiden Markram and Janneman Malan’s fifties guided South Africa to put up a big score to defend.
In England’s conditions, bowlers need to be disciplined to defend any total. The Proteas bowling unit was brilliant with their duties and managed to get breakthroughs when needed. The South African side should be prepared for a bigger challenge in the second match as England will attempt to make a strong comeback in the series.

Manchester’s weather forecast & toss prediction
According to the forecast, Friday in Manchester might see a little light rain. The teams who batted first have won eight of the twelve games over the past five years at Old Trafford, according to statistics. Therefore, the captain who wins the toss may decide to bat first on this ground.
Bottom Line
The Jos Buttler-led England ODI team hasn’t been shown their full potential so far. In addition, all-rounder Ben Stokes' retirement will definitely weaken the squad a bit. However, England have produced plenty of quality limited-overs cricketers in recent years and they will find a suitable replacement for Stokes. The England camp will be eager to see a solid performance from their players in order to level the ENG vs SA 2022 ODI Series.
On the other hand, the South African side is full of confidence after their dominating victory over England in the series-opener. The momentum is currently in South Africa’s favour. It will be a good chance for the Proteas team to clinch the series with a game in hand as England are going through a transitional period.
