WI vs Ban 2nd Test: Rain delays start of day 4
Persistent rain has delayed the start of day four of the St Lucia Test between hosts West Indies and Bangladesh.
The first session of day four already got washed away.
The next inspection is scheduled for 11pm Bangladesh time. If the situation allows, the match will resume after the lunch break.
Bangladesh have Nurul Hasan (16) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (0) at the wicket.
Earlier, at the end of the rain-hit third day, Bangladesh were struggling at 132 for six. The visitors still need 42 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Khaled Ahmed bagged his maiden five-for in the first innings of the West Indies who posted 408 and secured a lead of 176 runs. Khaled ended up taking five for 106 – his best bowling figure in Test.
He became the first Bangladeshi pacer to register a five-wicket haul in a Test in the West Indies. He broke Mushfiqur Rahman's record, who had taken 4 for 65 at the same venue in 2004.

In the second innings, Bangladesh lost three wickets for 32 runs in 10 overs. Tamim Iqbal fell to Kemar Roach.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (42), Liton Das (19), and Shakib Al Hasan (16) managed to have good starts but failed to convert them.
To win this Test, the West Indies will have to take only four more wickets before Bangladesh score another 42 runs.
In the first innings of the Test, Bangladesh scored only 234 runs with a fifty from Liton.
The visitors lost the first Test in Antigua by seven wickets.
After the Test series, both teams will take on each other in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.

Bottom Line
The Twenty20 team of Bangladesh is not as competitive as other ICC full member sides. Bangladesh don't have enough bowlers who are proficient in this specific format or enough power hitters. On the other hand, the current West Indian squad is not as strong as they were a few years ago. Furthermore, the 2021 T20 World Cup was a complete disaster for both countries. Because of this, both teams will participate in the WI vs BAN T20I Series 2022 as a means of getting prepared for the forthcoming Twenty20 World Cup in Australia.

ENG vs NZ Test Series 2022: England on verge of Kiwi whitewash
England are very much in control of the ongoing third Test against New Zealand at Headingley in Leeds as they need only 113 runs on the final day with 8 wickets in hand. If they win the third match of the ENG vs NZ Test Series 2022, England will whitewash New Zealand in a Test series for the first time since 2013. The English side will also be getting very close to New Zealand’s PCT in the ICC Test Championship 2021–2023 points standings. The third match scenario is discussed in this article.
England vs New Zealand Third Test 2022: Match Scenario
Headingley is one of the venues in England where batters usually flourish and lots of runs are scored on this ground. When Kane Williamson won the toss, he didn’t have to think twice about batting first. However, New Zealand failed to score big in both innings, allowing England to take full control of the contest at the end of day 4.
New Zealand First Innings
New Zealand had a really bad start to the innings, losing five wickets for 123 runs. Timely efforts by Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell in the middle-order helped the visiting side score more than 300 runs in the innings. The Mitchell-Blundell pair contributed 120 runs for the sixth wicket. Blundell made 55 runs, while Daryl Mitchell notched a century (109). New Zealand were all out for 329 in their first innings. Jack Leach of England picked up five wickets.

England First Innings
In reply to New Zealand’s 329, England had a horrendous start, even worse than their opposition. The hosts lost six wickets for only 55 runs in 12 overs. At that stage, New Zealand's campaign was hoping to bowl England out inside 100 runs and force them to follow on. However, a 241-run stand between Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Overton for the seventh wicket helped England to make a strong comeback in the innings.
Bairstow, who played a match-winning knock in the second Test, was in an aggressive mood in this innings. The right-hand batter made 162 runs off 157 deliveries, while Overton contributed 97 runs. Besides, Stuart Broad played an important 42-run innings, which helped England score 360 in their first innings. Trent Boult was the most successful bowler for New Zealand. He picked up 4 wickets.
New Zealand Second Innings
Trailing by 31 runs, New Zealand had a solid start to their second innings. Skipper Kane Williamson and opener Tom Latham made 97 runs together in the second wicket, giving the visitors a good platform to extend the lead. But New Zealand saw a collapse in their innings as they were down to 161/5 at one stage.

Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell once again came out to the rescue for the Blackcaps, putting up a 113 run partnership for the sixth wicket. Mitchell made 56, while Blundell remained unbeaten on 88*.
New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 326 after giving England a 296-run target to win. England’s Jack Leach picked up five wickets in this innings.
England Second Innings
Chasing a 296-run victory, England lost both their openers within 51 runs. However, the hosts have taken control of the game thanks to an unbeaten 132*-run third-wicket stand between Ollie Pope (81*) and Joe Root (55*). England finished the day on 4 with 183/2 runs on board. They needed only 113 runs to clinch the match as well as to whitewash the Kiwi side in the ENG vs NZ Test Series 2022.

Bangladesh on the verge of another defeat vs WI
After yet another poor batting display, Bangladesh are on verge of another Test defeat in the West Indies.
At the end of the rain-hit third day of the second Test of the two-match series in St Lucia, Bangladesh were struggling at 132 for six. The visitors still need 42 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Read:Mayers' 146 powers West Indies to big lead
Khaled Ahmed bagged his maiden five-for in the first innings of the West Indies who posted 408 and secured a big lead of 176 runs. Khaled ended up taking five for 106— his best in Tests so far.
And along the way, Khaled became the first Bangladeshi pacer to register a five-wicket haul in a Test in the West Indies. He surpassed Mushfiqur Rahman, who had taken 4 for 65 at the same venue in 2004, in the record of best bowling by a Bangladeshi pacer in the West Indies in a Test innings.
Bangladesh lost three wickets just for 32 runs in 10 overs. Tamim Iqbal, the main opener of Bangladesh, fell victim to Kemar Roach. With Tamim’s dismissal, Roach completed 250 wickets in Test.
He later removed Mahmudul Hasan Joy and comeback-man Anamul Haque Bijoy and moved to 252.
All of Najmul Hossain Shanto (42), Liton Das (19) and Shakib Al Hasan (16) have managed a good start each but failed to continue on that— the familiar batting foe of Bangladesh.
To win this Test, West Indies will have to take only four more wickets before Bangladesh scores another 42 runs.
Read:Batters should learn from West Indies: Domingo
On the other hand, the task of avoiding a big defeat in this Test is more than tough for Bangladesh who also lost the first Test in Antigua by seven wickets.
In the first innings of this Test, Bangladesh scored only 234 runs with a fifty from Liton. That poor display eventually put Bangladesh in a position that they were unable to recover from.
After the Test series, both the teams will take on each other in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.

Mayers' 146 powers West Indies to big lead
The West Indies started their first innings of the Lucia Test 234 runs behind Bangladesh and finished it 174 runs ahead at the Daren Sammy Stadium Sunday.
Kyle Mayers' epic knock of 146 came to an end as he fell to Khaled Ahmed on day three. It was Khaled's fourth wicket in the innings.
Bangladesh picked up two wickets in the first session of the day before the rain came in.
Read: Batters should learn from West Indies: Domingo
In the rain-hit first session, the West Indies added 36 runs with their overnight total of 340 for five and lost two more wickets.
The hosts had lost four wickets for 132 runs. But Mayers, Jermaine Blackwood and Joshua Da Silva stood firm to strike back and secure a first-innings lead for the hosts.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 234 in the first innings with only a 50 from Liton Das. All of Bangladesh's first five batters managed to have good starts, but they failed to carry on.
At the end of day two, Bangladesh's head coach Russell Domingo had said the batters should learn from the West Indies.
The hosts won the first Test of the ongoing series, which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship.

Batters should learn from West Indies: Domingo
Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo has said the Bangladeshi batters should learn from the way the West Indies batters have played in the ongoing Test in St Lucia.
At the end of day two, West Indies were leading by 106 runs with five wickets in hand. Despite losing four wickets in 132 runs, West Indies batters made a great comeback in the fifth and sixth wicket stands— a sort of performance that Bangladesh have failed to produce for a long time.
In the first innings of the ongoing Test, Bangladesh posted only 234 runs. All of Bangladesh’s top five batters managed a good start, but they failed to continue on that.

The tailenders, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam, scored 21 and 26 respectively which helped the visitors pass the 200-run mark. Had they not scored these runs, Bangladesh would have been bundled for a total of less than 200.
“There’s a lot of players searching for form, searching for runs. The only way to get through it is to bat for long periods of time. Lots of the 30s and 40s, the odd 50. Nobody is doing what Kyle Mayers is doing,” Domingo told in the post-day press conference.
West Indies posted 100 runs in the opening stand, but while scoring the next 32 runs, they lost four wickets. From there, Jermaine Blackwood (40), Kyle Mayers (126*), and Joshua Da Silva (26) brought the hosts to 340 for five.

“We are good for one session and then we have a one really bad session,” Domingo said. “Guys were not patient. They couldn’t string together enough tight overs as we did in the first session. They were only searching for wickets.”
Bangladesh lost the first Test against the hosts in Antigua. This series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship. The Tigers have only one win this cycle of this event.

BAN vs WI Series 2022: West Indies dominate St Lucia Test
Bangladesh batters displayed improved performances in the first innings of the second Test of the ongoing BAN vs WI Series 2022. Though, it was still insufficient to put up a substantial total on board. Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam's partnership for the ninth wicket allowed Bangladesh to reach the 200-run mark. The West Indies have already taken a 100-run lead courtesy of Kyle Mayers' outstanding century. The second Test match scenario is discussed in this article.
Bangladesh vs West Indies Second Test 2022: Match Scenario
The West Indies put Bangladesh to bat first in the second Test of the BAN vs WI Series 2022. Their decision came out as a fruitful one as the visiting side was bowled out for 234 after playing 64.2 overs. Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudul Hasan Joy gave Bangladesh a solid start with a 41-run partnership. However, Bangladesh couldn’t put up any big partnerships in the middle after that, limiting their chances to score big in the first innings.
Litton Das was the top scorer for the Tigers, scoring 53 runs, while Tamim Iqbal contributed 46. For the third time in the series, Tamim was very impressive but couldn’t prolong his innings.

A special mention should go to two fast bowlers, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam. The two made a 36-run stand between them in the ninth wicket and guided Bangladesh to score more than 200 runs. Ebadot was unbeaten on 21*, while Shoriful made a quick-fire 26 off 17 balls. Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph both picked up 3 wickets each for the Caribbean side.
West Indies scored 340/5 at the end of day 2 in response. They already have a 106-run lead with five wickets in hand. The hosts are eyeing a 200-run first innings lead. If they do achieve their target, then Bangladesh have no other choice but to save the Test.
Bangladesh had fought hard at one stage by picking up 4 wickets for 132 runs. However, the West Indies have taken control of the match thanks to Kyle Mayers' brilliant hundred and two fruitful partnerships in the fifth and sixth wickets, respectively. Mayers remains unbeaten with 126*. So far, Mehidy Miraz and Ebadot Hossain have picked up two wickets each for Bangladesh.

Mayers hits ton to push back Bangladesh
Scalping four wickets in the first session of day two, Bangladesh fought back vigorously in the second Test of the two-match series against the West Indies in St Lucia.
But a ton from Kyle Mayers pushed Bangladesh back again.
At the end of day two, West Indies are leading by 106 runs with five wickets in hand. The hosts have scored 340 for five so far. Mayers remained unbeaten for 126 while the other unbeaten batter Joshua Da Silva was batting at 26.
Read: WI off to solid start against Bangladesh
In the first wicket stand, West Indies scored 100 runs. While scoring subsequent 32 runs, they lost four wickets with Khaled Ahmed taking two of them.
But in the fifth wicket stand, Mayers and Jermaine Blackwood added 166 runs which helped the hosts to come out of the fear of suffering a batting collapse. After Jermaine was out at 40, Mayers and Joshua added 92 runs at the sixth wicket stand.
These two partnerships helped the hosts to secure a lead of 106 runs with five wickets in hand, and eventually, that pushed Bangladesh into an uncomfortable situation.
Earlier, West Indies won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat first. The visitors had a good opening stand and all of their first five batters have managed good starts but they failed to continue.
Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph bagged three wickets each for the hosts while Anderson Phillip and Kyle Mayers scalped two wickets each.

Latham and Williamson defy England, NZealand reaches 125-1
Tom Latham’s half century helped New Zealand fight its way back into the third and final test against England on Saturday by reaching 125-1 at tea on Day 3.
Latham and captain Kane Williamson batted almost the entire middle session for New Zealand’s overall lead of 94 runs. Joe Root dropped a regulation catch of Latham just before tea as the left-hander reached 76 with Williamson not out on 37.
Earlier, Jamie Overton missed out on a dream hundred in his debut test match but Jonny Bairstow’s masterful 162 gave England a slender first innings lead of 31 runs.
Overton, who made 97, and Bairstow’s record-breaking seventh wicket stand of 241 lifted England from a precarious 55-6 to 360 all out before the hosts got bowled out before lunch.
New Zealand, already trailing in the series 2-0, was dismissed for 329 in the first innings.
England had made early inroads when Matthew Potts found the outside edge of Will Young (8) in the third over after lunch.
Read: New Zealand 325-8 against England, 3rd century for Mitchell
But Latham and Williamson batted solidly against the pace and dominated the spin of Jack Leach before Stuart Broad induced a healthy outside edge of Latham’s bat which Root couldn’t hold onto in the first slip.
There was virtually no lateral movement for the fast bowlers and Latham was quick to punish anything pitched in the slot. Both batters also played some impressive sweep shots and had combined in hitting 18 fours.
Earlier, Overton was overcautious against the pace after resuming on 89 overnight before square driving Trent Boult for his first boundary of the day.
Bairstow, 130 overnight, raised England’s second-fastest 150 in a test match off 144 balls when he drove Neil Wagner through covers for two runs and was duly applauded by his hometown supporters at Headingley.
Boult, who had sliced through England’s top order, finally broke the stand when Overton edged a low catch in the slips after the left-arm fast bowler changed the line by coming round the wicket. Overton’s brilliant counter-attack came off 136 balls and featured 13 fours and two sixes. Boult finished with 4-104.
Broad then played a superb cameo of 42 off 36 balls that included sixes against both Boult and Wagner before Tim Southee (3-100) hit the top of the stumps and had the left-hander clean bowled.

Bairstow’s second successive blistering knock of the series finally ended when he came down the wicket against the spin of Michael Bracewell and Boult took a smart catch at long-off. Boult slid forward and grabbed the ball inches above the ground as Bairstow got a thunderous applause from his supporters while walking back to the dressing room.
Bairstow’s blistering knock off 157 balls featured 24 fours as he decimated both spin and pace of New Zealand and had given England a chance to clean sweep the three-match series.
