Bangladesh would have moved up to sixth place in the ICC ODI rankings if they had won the series 3-0 over Afghanistan. However, the final encounter was a massive failure for the hosts. They were dismissed for 192 runs, which Afghanistan easily chased down in 40.1 overs for the loss of only three wickets.

Bangladesh have lost nine of their previous ten Twenty20 matches, and the BCB needs an effective plan for the development of the T20 format.
Individual Performances by Bangladesh Players in the Bangladesh-Afghanistan series 2022

Liton Das' return to form in the limited-overs format was one of Bangladesh's most notable achievements in the series. He was the team's leading scorer with 223 runs. Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz proved that they are ready to take responsibility on the international stage with a superb match-winning partnership in the first ODI. Afif ended the ODI series as Bangladesh's second-highest run-scorer. Besides, Mushfiqur Rahim scored 86 runs in the second One-Day International.
ODI captain and opener, Tamim Iqbal had a disastrous series, getting out three times in Fazalhaq Farooqi's bowling. Newcomer, Yasir Ali only made 1 run in three innings.

Nasum Ahmed bowled brilliantly in the opening T20I, taking four wickets for only ten runs to help Bangladesh take a 1-0 series lead. He was the most successful bowler for the hosts in the Twenty20 series. In addition, Shakib Al Hasan, Shoriful Islam, and Mustafizur Rahman looked impressive in the first match. However, they all struggled in the second T20I.
Fielding
Bangladesh's fielding was a major disappointment In the Afghanistan series. They dropped nine catches in five matches, which is a very concerning statistic for a Test-playing nation. Bangladesh's fielding must be at its best in the upcoming series against South Africa. Otherwise, both the ODI and Test series will be a catastrophe for them.

Way Forward
Bangladesh had high hopes of winning all five of their matches against Afghanistan. They should have won all of the games based on how they started both series. However, the host had struggled in the last matches of each series. Therefore, they were unable to attain the desired result in the BAN vs AFG series 2022.
Bangladesh as a team must develop substantially in order to be more competitive against the South African national team in the next series. Players must be dedicated to improving their individual performances in order to be well equipped to face a formidable Proteas team.

Domingo expresses disappointment over sloppy fielding
Bangladesh head coach Russell Doming expressed his disappointment over the sloppy fielding of the Bangladesh fielders in the just-concluded home series against Afghanistan.
In the five matches, three ODIs and two T20Is, Bangladesh fielders dropped a total of at least nine catches that cost the hosts a lot.
“Whether it is the concentration, confidence or dealing with pressure, I am not 100 percent sure. We just have to make sure we try to improve. We make too many mistakes in the field that have cost us,” Domingo told the media after the conclusion of the series.
In the second T20I, Nasum Ahmed dropped a catch off his own bowling in the first over while defending a total of 115. And later on, Afif Hossain and Mahedi Hasan also missed two catches which seemed to be regulation ones for a fielder.
Right before the T20I series, Mahmudullah Riyad, the T20I captain of Bangladesh had to face harsh questions regarding his own sloppy catching at the outfield.
Mahmudullah dropped two catches in the three-match ODI series. In the first ODI, he left a catch of Ibrahim Zadran at the square leg area which deprived Taskin Ahmed of getting an early wicket. In the third ODI, Shoriful Islam was deprived by Mahmudullah when he missed a catch of Rahmanullah Gurbaz at fine leg. Rahmanullah eventually hit a ton in that match.
Bangladesh also missed a good amount of catches in the T20 World Cup that took place in Oman and the UAE last year.
Afghanistan managed to end the T20I series 1-1. In contrast, Bangladesh continued to play T20I in a poor manner. They now have only one win in 10 matches.
“In this format, once you lose confidence and momentum, it can easily get into a run to lose games. We need to do a lot of improvements in this particular format. We are a long way from where we need to be in this format,” Domingo added.

ICC Women's World Cup: Tigresses start campaign on wrong foot
Bangladesh women's cricket team, playing in their first ever ICC Women's World Cup game, failed to mark the occasion with a positive note as they fell to a 32-run defeat against South Africa at University Oval in Dunedin, New Zealand on Saturday.
Despite staying in the hunt for most of the game, and probably edging it at the innings break, some tidy work with the ball and in the field came unstuck during the run chase, as failure to score freely in the first half of their innings left the Bangladeshi girls with simply too much to do in the final stretch, and they failed to keep up.
Sent in to bat first, the Proteas women were bowled out for a moderate 207 in 49.5 overs, featuring a 71-run sixth-wicket stand between Chioe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp.
The pair helped carry the South African team total past 200 after coming together at 119/5.
Kapp contributed the team highest 42 runs off 45 balls with three boundaries, while Tryon scored a 40-ball 39, hitting one four and two sixes. Opener Laura made 41 runs off 53 deliveries with five hits to the fence in the other notable score.

Left-arm pacer Fariha Islam Trisna, 19, was the most successful among the Bangladesh bowlers, taking a career-best 3/35.
Jahanara Alam and Ritu Moni claimed two wickets each conceding 28 and 36 runs respectively.
Chasing a moderate total, Bangladesh were dismissed for 175 in 49.3 overs, despite two good partnerships.
Openers Shamima Sultana and Akhter dropped anchor and Bangladesh lost their first wicket with 69 runs on the board - but they used up almost 20 overs in the process.
Sharmin contributed the highest 34 runs, but she struggled to get the bowlers away, taking 77 balls for a strike rate of just 44, despite four boundaries. Her partner Shamima fared marginally better in terms of strike rate, compiling 27 off 50 deliveries (strike rate 54).

Even captain Nigar Sultana was tied down, scoring a painstaking 29 off 59 balls (strike rate 49) as runs dried up in the middle overs as well.
When Salma Khatun was dismissed cheaply for 2, Bangladesh were 113/6 in the 36th over, and the game looked out of reach. That brought Ritu Moni (27 runs off 38 balls) out to join Rumana Ahmed (21 off 32), and they rallied with a spunky partnership of 53 off 10 overs that brought Bangladesh within range again.
But when the partnership was broken, the required rate had grown to 10 an over, and that was always going to be a tall order for the tail, who managed to only add another nine runs to the scoreboard, as South Africa applied the finishing touches.
Ayabonga Khaka finished with figures of 4/43 off 10 overs, including three maidens, and in the process became the fifth South African to take 100 ODI wickets. It was also her second four-for in ODIs.
She was adjudged player of the match.
Bangladesh will play their next match against hosts New Zealand on Monday (Mar 7).

Cricketers remember Warne in Pakistan vs Australia test
Australia and Pakistan cricketers wore black armbands and observed a minute of silence in memory of Shane Warne ahead of the start of the second day’s play in the first test on Saturday.
Warne died of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand on Friday at the age of 52.
“It’s just a really tough time with both Rod (Marsh) and Shane,” Australia captain Pat Cummins told the host broadcaster ahead of the start of second day’s play.
Cummins said the players heard about Warne’s death as they were leaving the ground yesterday at the end of first day’s play at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
“I just encouraged everyone to talk about it, look after each other. Everyone’s worked through it differently. Everyone knew Shane, but you know, some people knew him better than others.”
Cummins remembered watching Warne’s spin magic as a young kid.
“I started (watching Warne) being kind of 10, 11, 12 years old and really appreciated just what a giant of the game he was and probably started to learn and appreciate the art of spin bowling,” Cummins said. “And, you know, his showmanship and all those things that he brought to Australian cricket, so that’s probably my longest lasting memories.”
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, a former cricket star, called Warne a “bowling genius,” saying “he will be missed across the cricketing world.” In a tweet Saturday, Khan said Warne “took the art of leg spin to new heights.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board said Warne will be missed.
“The PCB is shocked and devastated to hear the news of Shane Warne’s passing,” the PCB tweeted. “Shane will be sorely missed and cricket will be poorer without him. Our heartfelt condolences to Cricket Australia and Shane’s family and friends.”

T20I series drawn after AFG better BAN in low-scoring affair
Afghanistan ended their tour of Bangladesh on a high after thrashing the hosts by 8 wickets in the 2nd and final T20I on Saturday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
It was another one-sided affair following the hosts' drubbing of the touring Afghan side by 61 runs in the first T20I on Thursday.
With this win, Afghanistan managed to end the series 1-1, which will help them rise a spot in the T20 Team Rankings maintained by the ICC.
Bangladesh batted first and posted only 115/9 off their 20 overs. Afghanistan chased it down in 17.4 overs with eight wickets in hand.
On top of defending a low total, Bangladesh fielders missed at least three catches, with one in the first over bowled by Nasum Ahmed.
When Hazratullah Zazai skied the ball, it was in fact Nasum himself who signalled it was his catch and others should stay away, but he dropped it.
Afif Hossain and Mohammad Naim also missed two regulation catches in the deep areas.
Zazai ended up scoring 59 off 45 balls with three fours and five sixes while Usman Ghani posted 47. These ensured an easy win for Afghanistan.

Earlier, Bangladesh openers, Munim Shahriar and Mohammad Naim posted seven runs in the first wicket partnership. Munim, who got a chance in the national team for his ability to hit the ball cleanly, failed to prove his mettle in the first two chances.
Mushfiqur Rahim, who was playing his 100th T20I - only the second Bangladeshi to do so after Mahmudullah Riyad -scored 30, the highest by any Bangladeshi batter in this match.
Captain Riyad scored 21, the second-highest.
Mohammad Naim and Liton Das were the other two batters to have scored a double-digit total— 13 each.
Afghanistan bowled superbly. Left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi continued to shine taking three wickets conceding 18 in four overs while right-arm pacer Azmatullah Omarzai has also bagged three wickets conceding 22 in four overs.
Bangladesh won the first match by 61 runs at the same venue.
Bangladesh’s next assignment is to play a three-match ODIs and two-match Test series in South Africa starting from March 18. The Tigers will travel to South Africa on March 11.

Australia beats England on sad day at ICC Women's World Cup
In a match made solemn by tragic circumstances, an Australian team batting with two black armbands beat England by 12 runs Saturday in its opening match at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at Hamilton, New Zealand.
Australia scored 310-3 batting first and a magnificent century from 79 balls by England’s Nat Sciver kept England in the match until the final over. Sciver was 109 not out at the end of an outstanding England run chase.
England needed 36 from the last three overs, 26 from the last two and 16 from the final over but fell short, finishing 298-8. Jess Johansen who had given up 16 runs from her first two overs, mostly to Sciver, bowled the last over and held her nerve to clinch Australia’s win.
The Australian players awoke on match day to news of the death in Thailand at 52 of the legendary Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne. That came only 24 hours after the loss of another Australia great, wicketkeeper/batsman Rod Marsh, who died aged 74.

A minute’s silence was observed before the match, players from both teams standing with their heads bowed before the Australian anthem rang over a silent stadium.
When Australia batted after losing the toss, it was almost with a sense of duty to make their own tribute to Warne and Marsh through their performance.
It was a performance of which Warne and Marsh, who both were inspirational mentors to young Australian players, would have been proud.
Opener Rachael Haynes made 130 from 131 balls and captain Meg Lanning 86 as Australia scored the highest total ever posted against England in a World Cup match. Haynes and Lanning put on 196 for Australia’s second wicket in the partnership on which the innings was founded.
“It was hard at the beginning, they bowled well early on,” Lanning said. “Rachael played really well to weather the early storm. Rachel’s innings was brilliant. She was in control, got through early, took good risks at the right time. It’s certainly one of her best innings.”
It was Haynes’ second century in one-day internationals and her highest score, eclipsing her 118 against Sri Lanka in Brisbane in 2019. Lanning posted her 18th one-day international half century and helped Haynes pace the Australian innings.
At Dunedin, Ayabonga Khaka took 4-32, including her 100th wicket in one-day internationals, as South Africa beat Bangladesh by 32 runs. South Africa made 207 batting first after losing the toss.
Opener Laura Wolvardt anchored the top of the order with 41 from 52 balls in challenging batting conditions. Bangladesh used its slow medium and spin bowlers to good effect on a slowish pitch at the University Oval, making strokeplay and placement difficult.
Captain Sane Luus batted 50 minutes for 25 before being run out when South Africa was 119-5 in the 34th over, needing to lift its run rate.

Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon took on the role of accelerating the scoring and combined in a partnership of 71 for the sixth wicket which lifted South Africa to 190-6. Kapp made 42 from 45 balls and Tryon 39 from 40. South Africa was 203-9 when Kapp was out in the 49th over.
Bangladesh made a strong run at its winning target after Shamima Sultana (27) and Sharmin Akhter (34) shared a 69-run opening stand in 19.3 overs.
Captain Nigar Sultana made 29, Ritu Moni 27 and Bangladesh was still in with a chance at 170-7 with four overs left. But Khaka helped suppress the Bangladesh chase.
“We are proud of Ayabonga Khaka, she is our golden arm at the moment,” Luus said.

Bangladesh bat first in Mushfiqur’s 100th T20I
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first in the second T20I against Afghanistan on Saturday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
This match is also the 100th T20 appearance for Mushfiqur Rahim. The wicketkeeper-batter was out of the playing XI in the first match due to an injury concern.
Mushfiqur is the only second Bangladeshi cricketer after Mahmudullah Riyad to have played 100 or more T20Is. Shakib Al Hasan, the left-handed allrounder, stands right behind Mushfiqur with 96 matches.
To pave way for Mushfiqur, Bangladesh overlooked Yasir Ali, who was inducted in the previous match, which Bangladesh won by 61 runs.

BAN vs AFG T20I Series 2022: Can Bangladesh Whitewash Afghanistan in Twenty20 Series?
Bangladesh were unable to sweep Afghanistan in the one-day international series after losing the third match. The hosts will have another chance to whitewash the visitors when both teams meet for the second T20I on March 5 at SBNCS, Mirpur. Bangladesh must win the second match as the twenty20 series has only two games. On the other hand, Afghanistan have no choice but to win the match in order to level the BAN vs AFG T20I series in 2022. The second T20I match preview is discussed in this article.
Second Match Preview of Bangladesh-Afghanistan T20I Series 2022
Bangladesh team management would be anticipating the same level of performance from their players as they did in the previous encounter. Oppositely, Afghanistan will be hoping that their top-order shines in this do-or-die contest. The match will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday (Bangladesh Standard Time) at SBNCS, Mirpur.
Bangladesh
Litton Das has been in excellent form in all formats since the beginning of the year, which should please the selectors. Litton is Bangladesh's best grammatical batter, and his consistency with the bat is crucial to the team's success.
Read Legendary Australia cricketer Shane Warne dies at 52
Bangladesh's opening worries have yet to be fixed, which is a major concern. Debutant Munim Shahriar didn't last long, and Mohammad Naim failed once more with the bat in the opening match of the series. Mushfiqur Rahim is expected to return to the playing XI, and Naim might be sidelined to make room for the veteran.
Bangladesh's bowlers were outstanding in the opening encounter. Nasum Ahmed single-handedly demolished Afghanistan's top order and he will certainly be a major concern for the visiting team. Shakib completed his 400th limited-overs wicket in the previous encounter, and Shoriful excelled with his accuracy. This bowling unit is more than capable of upsetting Afghanistan's batting order.
Predicted playing XI
Top Order: Litton Das, Munim Shahriar, Shakib Al Hasan, Middle-Orders: Mushfiqur Rahim (wicket-keeper), Mahmudullah Riyad (captain), Yasir Ali, Afif Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Lower-Order: Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed.

Afghanistan
The overall performance of the Afghanistan team was concerning in the opening encounter. They didn't have their best outing in the series-opening match. The bowling unit performed well, but the batters were underwhelming.
This Afghan top order is inexperienced, and they will require more time to get foreign expertise. However, as we witnessed in the first match, this is a significant advantage for Bangladesh. The Afghanistan team needs a strong start in the match for a competitive total. The top order in this match must tick in order for this to happen.
Rashid Khan, Mujeeb, and Nabi need to step up in the bowling unit to put greater pressure on the Bangladesh batters. Afghanistan must restrict Bangladesh in between 130 to 140 for creating a better opportunity to win the match.

Predicted Playing XI
Top Order: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Wicket-Keeper), Hazratullah Zazai, Darwish Rasooli, Middle Orders: Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi (captain), Azmatullah Omarzai, Karim Janat, Rashid Khan, Lower Order: Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Qais Ahmed
Pitch Report and Weather
Saturday will be bright, with no rain in the forecast. The first match pitch was a little grassy, which was not ideal for Afghanistan spinners. Bangladesh had dominated for the majority part of the game on that surface. Therefore, the second match is anticipated to be played on the same surface.
Bottom Line
Afghanistan team is expected to make a strong recovery in the second match in order to even the series. They are a tough T20 side, and overcoming them twice in a row will be difficult for Bangladesh. On the contrary, the Bangladeshi team may draw a lot of positives from their thrashing victory in the series opener. The Mahmudullah-led team will seek to capitalize on a new-look Afghanistan team in order to clinch a clean sweep against them for the first time. Overall, the second match of the BAN vs AFG T20I series 2022 is predicted to be enthralling.
