Fed Cup: Muktijoddha reach quarterfinals after 1-1 draw with Sheikh Russel
Dhaka, Dec 28 (UNB )- Muktijoddha Sangsad KC reached quarterfinals of the ongoing TVS 31st Federation Cup Football Tournament after playing 1-1 draw with Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited in their last Group D match at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday.
Muktijoddha, Sheikh Russel and Dhaka Mohammedan secured five points each but Sheikh Russel eliminated from the meet due to conceding more yellow cards than the other two teams. All loser Uttar Baridhara returned home with empty-handed.
In the day’s match, Uzbek forward Azizov Alisher netted for Sheikh Russel while Guinean forward Ismail Bangura equalized for Muktijoddha SKC.
Uzbek forward Azizov Alisher sent the ball home with a header from goal mouth melee in the second chance while defender Asaduzzaman Bablu missed the first chance, off a corner from midfielder Md Abdullah (1-0).
After the half-time, Guinean forward Ismail Bangura leveled the margin for Muktijoddha SKC with a right-footer drive from inside the box in the 50th minute.
Despite creating some close chances, Sheikh Russel failed to widen their margin.
