Bangladesh trail Singapore 1-0 at halftime in tense encounter
Bangladesh found themselves trailing 1-0 to Singapore at halftime in Tuesday’s match at the National Stadium.
Despite passionate home support that filled the venue with chants and celebratory atmosphere hours before kickoff, the hosts struggled to find their rhythm in a difficult opening 45 minutes.
Bangladesh, featuring debutant Shamit Som alongside key players Hamza Chowdhury and Fahamidul Islam, began the match assertively.
In the opening twenty minutes, Fahamidul and Shakil Ahad generated several scoring opportunities.
However, forward Rakib Hossain could not convert these chances. Singapore also created threats but failed to capitalize on early openings.
By the 30-minute mark, the score remained level.
Bangladesh goalkeeper Mitul Marma made a critical save from a Singaporean captain’s shot.
For Bangladesh, Rakib narrowly missed a connection with a well-delivered pass from Shamit Som, who consistently initiated attacks.

Brazil could secure a World Cup spot with victory in Ancelotti's home debut
More South American teams could qualify for the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday.
Second-place Ecuador can do it by winning in Peru. Fourth-place Brazil or third-place Paraguay could secure a spot at next year's global tournament with a win in Sao Paulo as long as Venezuela loses at Uruguay.
If Venezuela draws, either team could also qualify with a win if defending champion Argentina, which has already qualified, beats Colombia.
The most anticipated match of the round is in Sao Paulo, where Carlo Ancelotti will make his home debut as Brazil coach. Brazil, which had a 0-0 draw with Ecuador last week, is two points behind Paraguay in the standings.
Lionel Messi's Argentina takes on Colombia in Buenos Aires in a match where coach Lionel Scaloni will continue adding depth to his squad.
South America's last two qualifying game days are in September. The top six teams earn direct spots for the World Cup next year in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The seventh-place team goes into an international playoff.
Ancelotti's home debut
Ancelotti's changes to shore up the defense at Ecuador worked. Defender Alexsandro had an impressive game on debut and veteran midfielder Casemiro helped block the hosts.
AFC Asian Cup : Bangladesh to play home match against Singapore Tuesday
More changes are expected on Tuesday, the day Ancelotti turns 66. Striker Richarlison lost his place in the starting lineup to Matheus Cunha during training, and teenager Estêvão is expected to make way on the left wing for Raphinha, who was suspended last week. Ancelotti is also expected to replace midfielder Gerson with winger Gabriel Martinelli.
“We had the necessary time on those days to prepare both matches, a little less against Ecuador. The team is fresh, we will have every tool to do well tomorrow,” Ancelotti said Monday. “Raphinha gives us very important mobility. That could be key to unblock tomorrow's match.”
Casemiro enjoyed success with Ancelotti at Real Madrid, but has said his return to the national team after more than a year's absence is due to his performances at Manchester United.
“I'm glad to be back and back playing well, I want to stress that," Casemiro said. “I am not here because I know the coach, but because I deserve it. This was undoubtedly one of the most important years of my career.”
Paraguay will be a tough challenge for Brazil. Since coach Gustavo Alfaro took over, the Paraguayans have been unbeaten for nine matches. Alfaro has already equaled Paraguay's record for qualifying points set by coach Paulo César Carpegiani in the campaign for the 1998 World Cup in France.
Eyes on Venezuela
As the only South American team that has never made it to the World Cup, Venezuela will be under extra pressure at Centenario Stadium against fifth-place Uruguay.
A win for Venezuela and coach Fernando Batista will almost lock up seventh place and boost its chances of fighting for a direct spot. A Venezuela defeat could give Bolivia a chance to bid for the international playoff position.
“We have three finals in which we can't overlook, we can't fail. We are ready for that," Batista said. “We are focused on getting the most possible points.”
Uruguay has endured a shaky patch with no wins in its last four qualifiers. A home victory against Venezuela is key for the team to regain confidence.
Head coach Marcelo Bielsa, who has been clashing with Uruguay players since the Copa America last year, took some blame for the poor performance in the 2-0 loss at Paraguay.
Portugal edges Spain in shootout thriller to clinch second Nations League title
“I truly feel responsible for the situation of the team because the problem is the lack of creation of scoring opportunities, and my position before this problem is to propose solutions,” Bielsa said. “I have players who are special in their clubs, but can't do it in the squad I have ... I have no option (but) to recognize my lack of efficiency."
Uruguay remains without key midfielder Federico Valverde, who is injured, and striker Darwin Núñez, who is suspended.

Portugal edges Spain in shootout thriller to clinch second Nations League title
Cristiano Ronaldo scored again as Portugal claimed its second UEFA Nations League title, overcoming Spain 5-3 on penalties after a tense 2-2 draw in Munich on Sunday.
Having scored the winner against Germany in the semifinal, Ronaldo equalized in the 61st minute of the final to bring Portugal back into the game for a second time. This extended his record of international goals to 138 in 221 appearances.
Spain, who had stunned France 5-4 in the semifinal, started brightly and were rewarded in the 21st minute when Martin Zubimendi scored from close range following a clever pass from 17-year-old Lamine Yamal. Portugal responded swiftly through Nuno Mendes, whose angled drive beat goalkeeper Unai Simon just five minutes later.
Spain regained the lead moments before halftime when Pedri played a defense-splitting pass to Mikel Oyarzabal, who finished confidently to make it 2-1. However, Ronaldo leveled the match with a scrappy but vital finish after Mendes' cross caused chaos in the Spain box.
Despite both sides pressing for a winner, the match was dragged into extra time, where fatigue began to take its toll. Substitute Diogo Jota almost won it for Portugal in the final minute, but his header went just over the bar.
In the penalty shootout, both teams converted their first three attempts. The turning point came when Spain's late substitute Alvaro Morata saw his tame effort saved by goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
Ruben Neves then stepped up and fired home the winning penalty, sparking scenes of jubilation on the Portuguese bench.
"Our fighting spirit helped us clinch the title. We knew it would be a tough game; Spain is a very strong team and plays some of the best football in the world. But we also know that when we stick together and play as a team, we are very hard to beat," said Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Kane's goal gives England 1-0 win over Andorra as Tuchel stays perfect in Qualifiers
England continued their flawless run under head coach Thomas Tuchel with a narrow 1-0 win over Andorra in World Cup qualifying on Saturday, thanks to a second-half goal from Harry Kane.
The Three Lions struggled to break down the team ranked 173rd in the world until Kane converted a pass from Noni Madueke in the 50th minute. The Bayern Munich striker scored on the rebound after his initial shot was stopped by goalkeeper Iker Álvarez.
“We have to improve, definitely,” Kane said post-match. “Not a game many will remember, but we had some strong moments and in the end, the three points matter.”
The goal was Kane’s 72nd in his 106th appearance for England.
England remain atop Group K with nine points, having previously defeated Albania and Latvia. Tuchel’s team has yet to concede a goal in qualifying. Still, the German coach expressed disappointment with the performance.
“It wasn’t acceptable by the end,” Tuchel said. “We lost our focus and didn’t show the urgency we needed.”
Andorra, a nation of around 80,000 people, remains winless but managed to frustrate England for much of the match with a deep five-man defense. England defender Ezri Konsa was forced to make a key block late in the match to deny Guillaume Lopez an equalizer.
“We kept giving the ball away and let them build some momentum,” Kane added. “At 1-0 with only a few minutes left, anything can happen.”
Ronaldo unlikely to play in Club World Cup
England dominated the ball throughout and nearly added a second when Eberechi Eze forced Álvarez into tipping his header off the crossbar. Historically, England had won all six of their previous matches against Andorra by a combined score of 25-0.
“In terms of effort and execution, I couldn’t be prouder,” said Andorra coach Koldo Álvarez.
Due to incomplete renovations at Andorra’s home stadium, the match was played at Espanyol’s stadium in Barcelona, roughly three hours away from the principality.
Only the top team in each group qualifies directly for next year’s World Cup in North America. Runners-up enter a playoff. Europe will send 16 teams to the expanded 48-team tournament, with group qualifying continuing through November.
England’s next match is a friendly against Senegal on Tuesday.
Albania and Serbia Play to Tense 0-0 Draw Amid Heavy Security
A highly sensitive match between Albania and Serbia ended in a scoreless draw, with Rey Manaj missing a penalty in what was the game’s best opportunity. Serbian fans were barred from attending due to security risks, a decision made by UEFA.
Albania sits second in Group K behind England with four points after three games.
Security was tight in the Albanian capital, with more than 2,000 police deployed. Albanian fans whistled during Serbia’s national anthem and chanted “Kosovo,” referencing the ethnic-Albanian majority territory that declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Some fans also threw beer cups at Serbian players despite calls to refrain.
Tensions between the nations remain high. A 2014 game in Belgrade was abandoned after a drone carrying an Albanian flag triggered a brawl. Their last meeting in Albania occurred in 2015.
Dzeko Scores as Bosnia Beat San Marino, Netherlands and Austria Also Win
Veteran striker Edin Dzeko, 39, netted the only goal in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 1-0 win over San Marino, keeping them at the top of Group H with three wins. San Marino remains at the bottom without a point.
Austria claimed a 2-1 win over Romania in the same group. Michael Gregoritsch and Marcel Sabitzer scored for the home side, while Denis Alibec pulled one back in injury time.
In Group G, the Netherlands began their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win in Finland, with goals from Memphis Depay and Denzel Dumfries. Lithuania and Malta drew 0-0 in the group’s other match.

Trump attends UFC Championship in New Jersey, pausing Musk feud for night of fights
Former President Donald Trump received a loud standing ovation as he made his entrance at the UFC pay-per-view event held Saturday night at the Prudential Center, momentarily stepping away from his ongoing public dispute with tech billionaire Elon Musk to enjoy the high-stakes action in the octagon.
Accompanied by UFC President Dana White, Trump made his way to ringside seats for UFC 316, entering to the sound of Kid Rock’s “American Bad Ass.” The scene echoed a similar appearance last November at Madison Square Garden, though that event included Musk as part of the group.
Along the way, Trump greeted fans and supporters, among them retired boxing legend Mike Tyson. He was joined by family members, including daughter Ivanka Trump, her husband Jared Kushner, son Eric Trump, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump also shook hands with the UFC commentary team, including Joe Rogan, who had previously hosted him on his podcast during the late stages of the 2024 campaign. The crowd reacted enthusiastically, holding up phones to capture the moment. A longtime fan and regular attendee of UFC events, Trump arrived in time for a card that featured two title bouts, with champions Julianna Peña and Merab Dvalishvili set to defend their 135-pound titles.
During the event, fighter Kevin Holland submitted Vicente Luque and celebrated by climbing the cage to greet Trump. Holland briefly spoke with Trump and White before returning for his post-fight interview.
Republicans urge Donald Trump and Elon Musk to end their feud
Trump’s relationship with Dana White spans over 20 years, beginning with White hosting a 2001 UFC event at Trump’s former Atlantic City venue, the Trump Taj Mahal. Trump has been a fixture at UFC events ever since, including during his 2024 presidential campaign. His recent appearances have often included high-profile companions such as White, Kid Rock, and ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Their long-standing alliance has proven mutually beneficial: White has supported Trump at Republican conventions, while UFC fans and personalities have publicly backed Trump during election seasons.

Ronaldo unlikely to play in Club World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo says he's almost certain he will not be playing at the Club World Cup, dealing a blow to FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s hopes of having one of soccer’s biggest attractions at the tournament.
The Portugal captain confirmed Saturday that he received “quite a few” offers from participating clubs to play for them at the tournament starting June 14, but had decided against accepting any of them.
“Some things make sense to talk about, other things don’t, and, as a person says, you can’t take part in everything,” Ronaldo said. “You have to think about the short, medium and long term. It’s a decision practically made on my part not to go to the Club World Cup, but I’ve had quite a few invitations to go.”
Carlo Ancelotti's son Davide joins Brazil as an assistant coach
The 40-year-old soccer great was speaking in Munich a day before Portugal’s Nations League final against Spain.
Infantino had suggested last month that Ronaldo, who is still contracted to Saudi team Al-Nassr until the end of June, could switch to one of the 32 clubs taking part in the Club World Cup because of a unique transfer window created for the tournament.
Ronaldo did little to quell that speculation when he posted “ this chapter is over ” after Al-Nassr's last Saudi Pro League game of the season.
He was linked with several Club World Cup participants, including Brazil’s Palmeiras.
A switch to Al-Nassr’s crosstown rival Al-Hilal – the one Saudi club that qualified – was also mooted as a potential solution to having Ronaldo play at the tournament, where his great rival Lionel Messi will be playing with Inter Miami.
FIFA would have welcomed the boost that Ronaldo’s presence could provide for ticket sales, though such a switch to a bitter local rival for a short period would be unthinkable for players in Europe’s leagues.
Arsenal defender Gabriel signs new long-term contract
Both Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are among the four big Saudi clubs backed by the country’s Public Investment Fund, which has a 75% stake in each. On Thursday, FIFA announced PIF as an “ official partner ” of the Club World Cup. Saudi state money is also effectively funding the tournament’s broadcasting deal that has largely backed its $1 billion prize fund being shared among the participants.
“This is irrelevant right now,” Ronaldo first said when asked Saturday about the Club World Cup. “It makes no sense to talk about anything other than the national team.”
Ronaldo fired Portugal into the Nations League final on Wednesday with a 2-1 win over host nation Germany.
His winning goal was his record-extending 137th for Portugal. If he plays Sunday he will make his record-extending 221st national team appearance.

Carlo Ancelotti's son Davide joins Brazil as an assistant coach
Brazil's soccer confederation announced on Friday that Davide Ancelotti had joined his father, Carlo Ancelotti, as an assistant coach for the five-time World Cup champions.
Davide Ancelotti started his career as an assistant coach in 2015, following his father at Napoli, Everton, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, reports AP.
Brazil's soccer body said in a statement that the 35-year-old Davide Ancelotti's arrival “represents another step in our search for innovation and technical improvements.”
“His international experience and training methodologies will be fundamental for the players' development and for the construction of an even more competitive team,” it said.
Carlo Ancelotti's debut with Brazil at Ecuador on Thursday ended in a 0-0 draw, which kept the team in the fourth place in the South American World Cup qualifying standings. Davide Ancelotti is expected to be on the bench on Tuesday, when Brazil hosts third-place Paraguay.

Davide Ancelotti initially followed in his father’s footsteps as a professional footballer at AC Milan’s youth team and then at Borgomanero, but he retired at the age 20 to work in management. He holds a degree in sports science.
Davide Ancelotti's coaching career started in 2012 as a fitness coach at Paris Saint-Germain. He had a similar role at Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015. His first assistant manager position came at Bayern Munich in 2016 and then at the other clubs his father managed.
