Dhaka- Assam Men's, Women's Handball Series begins on Sunday
The Dhaka- Assam Men's and Women's Handball Series'2024, a joint initiative of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) and Assam State Handball Association, begins here on Sunday (June 30) at the Shaheed Captain (Retd) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium.
Former Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association, former President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation and veteran sports organiser Golam Quddus Chowdhury Babu will inaugurate the three-day series as chief guest Sunday afternoon.
National Women's Handball: Bangladesh Ansar & VDP to face Bangladesh Police in final
Touring Assam Men's Handball team will play four matches--- against Boarder Guard Bangladesh on Sunday at 3 pm, Bangladesh Police Handball Club on Monday also at 3 pm, Bangladesh Junior (U-20) Handball team on Tuesday at 10 am and against Bangladesh Youth (U-18) Handball team also on Tuesday at 4:45 pm.
Assam Women's team will play three matches-- against Dhaka Handball team on Sunday at 4:45 pm, Bangladesh Police Handball Club on Monday at 4:45 pm and again against Dhaka Handball Club on Tuesday at 3 pm.
35th National Women's Handball begins Monday
Meanwhile, both the Assam Men's and Women's teams already reached Dhaka to play the series.

Noted sports organiser Kutubuddin Akseer passes away
National sports award-winning organiser, former vice president of Bangladesh Cricket Board and EC member of Bangladesh Olympic Association Kutubuddin Ahmed Chowdhury Akseer passed away in Dhaka on Wednesday.
He was 77.
He breathed his last at 3.20 pm while undergoing treatment at the BIRDEM Hospital in the capital.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed deep shock at the death of Kutubuddin Akseer.
In a condolence message, BCB President and Minister for Youth and Sports Nazmul Hassan Papon said: “Kutubuddin Akseer had served Bangladesh cricket with commitment, passion and dedication. The country’s cricket fraternity will always remember his contribution to the game."
On behalf of the Board, he also conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Bangladesh Olympic Association also condoled at the demise of Akseer.

Jr AHF Cup Hockey: Bangladesh Men's team clinch title for record 3rd time beating China
Bangladesh Men's Hockey team clinched the Junior AHF Cup (U-21) Men's Hockey title for a record 3rd times with all-win run beating former champions China by 4-2 goals in the final at the Sengkang Sports Centre in Singapore on Sunday.
Defending champions Bangladesh earned their 2nd consecutive title with all-win record after 2014 and 2023 since its inception in 2003 with the frustration of China, the champions of 2011 and 2019.
Chinese Taipei and Oman won the remaining two titles of the seven edition of the meet.
In the day's final, the match was locked in goalless position in the first quarter of 15 minutes, but Bangladesh took control of the match scoring three goals in the 2nd quarter to dominate the first half clearly by 3-0 goals.
Mohammad Rakibul Hasan struck two two field goals in the 22nd and 27th minutes while Amirul Islam scored one in the 25th minute from a penalty corner (3-0).
China strongly came back in the match scoring two goals in the 33rd and 41st minutes of the 3rd quarter (3-2).
Finally, Obaidul Hossain Joy made the Bangladesh tense free scoring the 4th goal in the 63rd minute guiding his team to clinch the title with a 4-2 goals victory.
With the day's feat, Amirul Islam of Bangladesh finished 2nd slot in the scorer list scoring ten goals while Duisengazy Agymtay of Kazakhstan top the list with ten goals
Earlier, Bangladesh reached the semifinal as the Pool A champions with all-win record securing full 12 points from straight four matches, crushing Singapore 7-0, Sri Lanka 5-0, Thailand 4-2 and Indonesia by 7-0 goals in their Pool A matches
In the semifinal, Bangladesh eliminated another former champions Chinese Taipei by 5-1 goals.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh women' Hockey team outplayed hosts Singapore by 7-1 goals in their last league match at the same venue on Sunday.
Bangladesh dominated the first half by 4-0 goals.
Nadira Ema struck two, Sanjida Moni, Kona Akter, Airin Riya, Sonia Khatun and captain Orpita Pal scored one each for Bangladesh while captain Saiful Lana scored the consolation goal for hosts Singapore in the 45th minute from a penalty stroke.
This was the 5th win for Bangladesh Women's Hockey team in their 6th last league match after beating Thailand 5-4 , Hong Kong (China) 2-1, Sri Lanka 7-2, Indonesia 10-1 and conceded 0-3 goals defeat against Chinese Taipei, apart from day's 7-1 win over host Singapore.
On completion of six-match seven team league, Bangladesh finished runners up securing 15
points while Chinese Taipei emerged champions with 18 points.
Earlier, Bangladesh Women's team qualified for the final round of the Junior Asia Cup (U-21) Hockey for the first time as one of the five best teams of the ongoing seven-nation Junior AHF Cup (U-21) Hockey Tournament.
Bangladesh Women's team took part in the Junior AHF Cup (U-21) Hockey for the first time in 2019 and was finished 5th in the six-nation meet beating only Sri Lanka by 2-0 goals.

Bangladesh Women's Hockey team made a good start in the Junior AHF Cup (U-21) Hockey Tournament beating Thailand by 5-4 goals in the opening match in Singapore on Saturday (June 15)
Bangladesh Women's Hockey team, which reached Singapore Thursday early on their first-ever Junior AHF Cup mission, scored 3-3 goals in the first half.
Orpita Pal struck twice for Bangladesh, first from a penalty corner in the 7th minute and 2nd one in the 43rd minute from a penalty stroke.
35th National Women's Handball begins Monday
Nadira Talukder Ema, Fatema Tuz Zohora and Kona Akter scored one each for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Women's team, which competing in the seven nations meet on league basis matches with Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong (China), Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and hosts Singapore, will play Hong Kong (China) in their 2nd match on Sunday (June 16)
In the remaining matches, Bangladesh Women's team will play Sri Lanka on June 18, Chinese Taipei on June 19, Indonesia on June 22 and Singapore on June 23.
Top team will be the women's champion.
Meanwhile, defending champions Bangladesh Men's team, which was placed in Pool A alongwith Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and hosts Singapore, will start their campaign taking on hosts Singapore on Sunday (June 16).
In remaining pool matches, Bangladesh will play Sri Lanka on June 17, Thailand on June 19 and Indonesia on June 20.

Bangladesh teams to leave Singapore Wednesday night to participate in Junior AHF Cup Hockey
A 45-member Bangladesh Men's and Women's Junior Hockey teams due to leave Dhaka for Singapore tonight (Wednesday night) to compete in the Junior AHF Cup (U-21) Hockey Tournament beginning there on Friday (June 14).
Defending champions Bangladesh Men's Hockey team alongside newly included Bangladesh Women's Hockey team will leave the capital together for Singapore on Wednesday at 10:30 pm by a US Bangla flight.

The tournament will also be treated as the qualifying meet for the Junior Asia Cup 2024.

The Men’s Junior AHF Cup will welcome entries from all AHF Member National Associations, with the exception of five countries-India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Pakistan.
These countries have earned automatic qualification for participation in the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2024, based on their final ranking in the Men Junior Asia Cup 2023.
Entries for the Women’s Junior AHF Cup are invited from all AHF Member National Associations, except the five countries --China, India, Japan, Korea, and Malaysia.
Similar to the men’s tournament, these five countries have secured automatic qualification for participation in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2024, based on their final ranking in the Men Junior Asia Cup 2023.

National Archery: Police Archery team clinch top slot securing four gold, four silver medals
Bangladesh Police Archery team clinched the top slot in the Teer 15th National Archery Championship 2024 securing four gold and four silver medals on the closing day at the meet at BKSP in Savar on Sunday.
Bangladesh Ansar finished 2nd securing two gold, one silver and six bronze medals, Army Archery Club became 3rd with two gold and one silver while hosts BKSP finished 4th with one gold, two silver and two bronzes.
Executive Director (Sales & Marketing) of the meet's sponsor City Group Zafar Uddin Siddiqui was the chief guest at the day's closing function and later he distributed the prizes.

Besides, recurve men's team events gold went to BKSP, recurve women's team event gold went to Police AC while recurve mixed team event gold went to Bangladesh Air Force.

Bangladesh Ansar & VDP emerge National Women's Handball champions
Dhaka, June 6 (UNB)- Bangladesh Ansar & VDP emerged champions in the Exim Bank 35th National Women's Handball Championship beating Bangladesh Police Handball Club by 33-24 goals in the final at the Shaheed (Capt) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.
This was the 23rd national crown and the 7th national title times in a row for Bangladesh Ansar team since its inception in 1983.

Managing Director and CEO of the meet's sponsor Exim Bank PLC M Firoz Hossain witnessed the final match as the chief guest and later distributed the trophies.

Earlier, Jamalpur DSA finished 3rd in the meet beating Jashore DSA by 21-14 points in a place-deciding match at the same venue on Friday.

35th National Women's Handball advances to quarter-final stages
The Exim Bank 35th National Women's Handball Championship, organised by Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF), advanced to the quarter-final stages on the 3rd day of the meet at the Shaheed (Capt) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The four matches in this stage will be held on Thursday morning while both the semifinals will be held on Thursday afternoon.
FIFA WC Qualifiers: Bangladesh to play Australia in home match Thursday
Bangladesh Ansar and VDP will play Naogaon DSA at 8 am, Jashore DSA will face Madaripur DSA at 9:15 am, Dhaka DSA will meet Jamalpur DSA at 10:30 am while Bangladesh Police will play Faridpur DSA at 11:45 am in the quarterfinals.
