Bangladesh were eliminated from the 10-nation Men’s Junior (U-21) Asia Cup Hockey in the group stage losing to stronger South Korea by 1-3 goals in their last Group B match at the Salalah Sports Complex in Oman Sunday (May 28) night= After conceding three goals in a row within the 54th minute, Hasan scored the lone goal for Bangladesh in the 58th minute.  After the day's match, Bangladesh finished 3rd to miss the semifinal berth from the five- team Group B securing six points from all three group encounters. Malaysia and South Korea reached the semifinal from group B securing nine points each playing three and four matches respectively.  Earlier, Bangladesh made a good start in the 10th edition of the Junior Asia Cup, shocking hosts Oman by 2-0 goals in first match, but they went down in the race after suffering a huge 1-5:goals defeat against Malaysia in the 2nd  match last Thursday. However, Bangladesh keep their semifinal hope alive defeating Uzbekistan by 3-1 goals in their 3rd match last Friday, but their sweet dream of reaching the semifinal was shattered after the day's defeat. Earlier, Bangladesh have been placed in Group B with Malaysia, South Korea, hosts Oman and Uzbekistan while Group A team comprises India, Pakistan, Japan,  Chinese Taipei and Thailand. Top three teams of the ongoing tournament, apart from Malaysia, which is already qualified as the host, will qualify for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023.

Bangladesh suffered a huge defeat (1-5) against Malaysia in their 2nd  match of the 10-nation Men’s Junior (U-21) Asia Cup Hockey held in the Omanese city of Salalah on Thursday. After the day's humiliating defeat, the semifinal berth of Bangladesh now became tough and uncertain. Bangladesh, which made a good start in the 9th edition of the meet shocking hosts Oman by 2-0 goals in their first match, today (Thursday) went down by-0-3 goals in the first half. Malaysia scored three goals in a row in the 8th, 13th and 14th minute respectively whie  Abdullah reduced rhe Bangladesh margin in the 37th minute (3-1). Later, Bangladesh conceded two more goals in the 43rd and 59th minute to suffer a huge 1-5 goals defeat In the remainng group B matches, Bangladesh will play Uzbekistan on Friday (May 26) and South Korea on May 28. Earlier, Bangladesh have been placed in Group B with Malaysia, South Korea, hosts Oman and Uzbekistan while Group A team comprises of India, Pakistan, Japan,  Chinese Taipei and Thailand. Top three teams of the ongoing tournament, apart from Malaysia, which is already qualified as the host, will qualify for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023.        

International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh maintained his sole lead in the Hanoi Grandmaster Chess Tournament-2' 2023 securing 5 points after the 6th round matches held in Hanoi, Vietnam on Wednesday. The 5th and 6th round matches were held today (Wednesday). In the day's 5th round match in the morning, IM Fahad Rahman won against WGM Vo Thi Kim Phung of Vietnam. Fahad played with white pieces in Queen’s Indian Declined system game and won against WGM Phung at 62nd move. In the day's 6th round match in the afternoon, IM Fahad drew with CM Wong Zhenyong Jayden of Singapore. Fahad played with white pieces against CM Jayden in the Exchange variation of Queen’s Indian Declined game and settled for draw at 61st move. The 7th and 8th round matches will be held on Thursday. In the 7th round match in the morning, IM Fahad will play against IM Tran Minh Thang while in the 8th round match in the afternoon, Fahad will play against IM Labog Eric Jr. of Philippines.

Bangladesh made a good start  in the 9th edition of the 10-nation Men’s Junior (U-21) Asia Cup Hockey beating their old rivals Oman by 2-0 goal in the first match held in the Omanese city of Salalah Tuesday night. This was the 2nd consecutive victory for Bangladesh against their traditional foe Oman after clinching the Men’s Junior AHF Cup Hockey title in Muscat last January beating them by  7-6 goal in penalty shootout.  In the next match, Bangladesh will face stronger Malaysia on Thursday (May 25). In Tuesday's match, Bangladesh scored both the goals in a span of only two minutes in the 2nd quarter of the match with the frustration of the home crowd.  Tahsin Ali put Bangladesh ahead in the 22nd minute by a field goal (1-0)  while Zahid Hossain scored the 2nd goal for Bangladesh just two minutes later (2-0). Forward Rakibul Hasan Rocky of Bangladesh was adjudged the best player of the match. Earlier, Bangladesh have been placed in Group B with Malaysia, South Korea, hosts Oman and Uzbekistan while Group A team comprises India, Pakistan, Japan,  Chinese Taipei and Thailand. Top three teams of this tournament, apart from Malaysia, which already qualified as the host, will qualify for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup '2023. In the remaining group B matches, Bangladesh will play Uzbekistan on May 26 and South Korea on May 28. Earlier, the top five teams --India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea and Malaysia --got an automatic qualification for the final round based on their world rankings.  Five other countries --Bangladesh, Oman, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei--have qualified for  the 10- team final round after playing in the qualifying round of the  Men’s Junior AHF Cup held in Muscat, Oman last January.  

Bangladeshi International Master Fahad Rahman drew with IM Siddharth Jagadeesh of Singapore in the first round match of the Hanoi Grandmasters Chess Tournament-2 that began today (Monday) in Hanoi, Vietnam. In the day's first round match, IM Fahad Rahman played with black against Catalan Opening of IM Siddharth and settled for a drew in 23rd move. A total of 12 players including 3 Grand Masters and 3 International Masters from Bangladesh, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam are participating in this event.

The 9th edition of the 10-nation Men’s Junior (U-21) Asia Cup Hockey begins on Tuesday (May 23) in the Omanese city of Salalah with Bangladesh taking on hosts Oman in one of the four opening day's matches. The match will kicks-off at 10 pm Bangladesh time. In their last meeting in Men’s Junior AHF Cup held in Muscat last January. Bangladesh beat Oman by 7-6 goals in penalty shootout as the keenly contested final match was locked in 1-1 goal in the scheduled time. Earlier, Bangladesh have been placed in Group B with Malaysia, South Korea, hosts Oman and Uzbekistan while Group A team comprises India, Pakistan, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Thailand. In the remainng group B matches, Bangladesh will play Malaysia on May 25, Uzbekistan on May 26 and Korea on May 28.All the participating players have to born on or after January 1 2002, making them 21 years old or less. The top five teams --India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea and Malaysia --got an automatic qualification based on their world rankings. Five other countries --Bangladesh, Oman, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei--earned the rights to play in the final round of the meet from qualifiying round of the Men’s Junior AHF Cup held in Muscat, Oman in last January. Top three teams of the title tournament, apart from Malaysia which is already qualified as the host, will qualify for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023.

Bangladeshi International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman left Dhaka for Vietnam on Saturday to participate in two  Grandmasters Chess Tournaments in Hanoi.  The Grandmaster Chess Competition-2 will be held in Hanoi from May 22 -27 while the Grandmaster Chess Competition-3 will be held also in Hanoi from May 29 to June 3, 2023. Twelve players including 3 Grand Masters and 3 International Masters from Bangladesh, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and host Vietnam will participate in the events.  Dr. Shoaib Riaz Alam, Additional DIG of Bangladesh Police and Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation sponsored Fahad Rahman's trip to Vietnam to participate in two Grandmaster Chess events from Bangladesh Police Club.

Rumel Khan of Dainik Janakantha and Nadia Sharmin of Ekattor TV emerged men's and women's champions in the Walton Smart Freeze -DRU Sports Festival '2023 on Sunday. In the men's group, Rumel scored 28 points to be the champion, Tariqul Islam Masum of Channel i finishes runner-up scoring 27 points while Mahmudun Nabi Chanchal of Dainik Kalbela became 3rd in tie- breaker. In the women's group, Nadia Sharmin emerged champions, Nargis Jui of BTV became runner-up while Shamsun Nahar Binu, also from BTV finished 3rd. Earlier, acting general secretary of DRU Moinul Ahsan inaugurated the meet on Sunday (May 21) at the Capt (Retd) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium here. DRU Sports Secretary M.Mahbubur Rahman was also present on the occasion.

Hosts Bangladesh emerged champions in the Youth (U-17) group of the four-nation Bangabandhu  IHF Challenge Trophy Women’s Handball '2023 beating their giant rival India by 46-43 goal in a keenly contest final at the Shaheed Captain (Retd) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium here on Wednesday.  This is the first victory for Bangladesh against  India in any national and age level handball meet. With the feat, Bangladesh youth team will now play in the second round of this tournament as the champions of South-Central Asia Zone-2.  Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) Syed Shahed Reza witnessed the final as the chief guest and later he distributed the trophies.  Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) president AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul and general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor, tournament organizing committee’s chairman and former senior secretary Md. Aminul Islam were also present in the prize distribution ceremony The ups and down final match was locked in 20-20 goal in the first half, but it was more exciting and nerve shattering one in the 2nd half. Bangladesh were went down by 10-16 goal in the first 20 minutes of one hour long match, later captain Marfe, Runa Layla, Tania and Dipa salvaged team from debacle. Pradnya Balaso Mane of India got marching order in the 44th after receiving red card while Bangladesh captain and team's highest scorer Marfe also got marching order in the 55th after receiving the 3rd yellow card in the match. But, Runa Layla, Dipa Rani and Tania with their extra ordinary performances covered the absence of Marfe and led the team towards their first ever victory against giant India Captain Marfe scored the team highest 15 goals, Runa Layla 24, Tania 20 and Dipa Rani 5 goals for the champions Bangladesh While Renuka of India scored the match highest 16 goals. Later, Marfe of Bangladesh was adjudged the best youth player of the tournament. After the match, the excited Bangladesh Youth team coach Dalia Akter termed the result as surprise. "Before the start of the tournament, I told all that my team will show b did in the final. I am very happy with the performance of the girls. I never beat India in my playing career, but for the first time as a coach I was able to ensure that achievement. It’s difficult to beat India in any game, especially in handball is more difficult.,” said the proud coach. After the match, the captain Marfe said: “I am very happy. Thanks to all coaches, players, officials, everyone who supported us a lot.”  She also didn’t forget to give a big thank to the local crowds, who came to the stadium to support the Bangladesh team in the final match. Later in the Junior (U-19) group, India clinched the title beating Bangladesh by 48-17 goals in the final at the same venue Wednesday afternoon. Cheton Sharma of India was adjudged the best junior player of the meet.
