Hosts Bangladesh smartly qualified for final of the 12-nation Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi Tournament for the 4th consecutive times eliminating Thailand by 41-18 point with three lonas in the first semifnal at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Bangladesh reached the final of the last edition of the tournament also beating Thailand in the semifinal by 45-26 point.

Thailand advanced to the semifinal of the Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi Tournament for the 2nd consecutive times eliminating Iraq by 44-42 points with two lonas in a nail biting match at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.
With the day's feat, Thailand finished Group B runners-up securing eight points from all five group matches and will play the first semifinal against three times champions and hosts Bangladesh on Sunday (June 2) at 4 pm.
Two-time runners-up Kenya, which emerged Group B champions will play the 2nd semifinal against Group A runners-up Nepal at 5 pm also on Sunday (June 2).
Bangladesh reached the semifinal as the Group A champions with all win record securing full ten points from straight five matches while Nepal advanced to the semifinal as Group A runners-up with eight points from five outings.

Ahead of the Sunday's semifinal, Bangladesh coach Subimal Chandra Das is confident of winning the semifinal.
“Thailand is a tough opponent, Bangladesh has achieved the glory of being champion in the last three editions and the trend will continue also this time” said Subimal Chandra.
Thailand manager Ravindra Shetty said “Tomorrow is a big day for us as we will play against defending champions Bangladesh. We finished third last time and this time we will look to the situations"
"Bangladesh is a good team and good enough in their home ground. Bangladesh have played well so its a big day for us" he added.
The final match will be held on Monday (June 3).

In Sunday's first match, Thailand dominated the first half by 28-24 points.
Nophadon Pontaisong of Thailand scored 13 points helping his team to register the crucial victory and was adjudged man of the match.
In the day's other match, Sri Lanka finished the group encounters with a 44-22 points win over Japan featuring three lonas at the same venue Saturday.
The winning team led the first half 19-11 points.
Lankan captain Milinda Chathuranga was adjudged the man of the match for scoring 15 points.
In the day's other match, Indonesia defeated Malaysia by 57-36 points with three lonas after leading the first half by 31-14 points at the same venue Saturday evening.

Defending champions Bangladesh emerged Group A champions to reach the semifinal of the 12-nation Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi Tournament with all win record beating Nepal by 46-31 points in a hard-fought match at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
Three times champions Bangladesh leading the first half by 18-14 points against the Himalayan nation Nepal
With the day's 5th consecutive victory, Bangladesh clinched group title securing full ten points from straight five matches while Nepal also advanced to the semifinal as group runners-up with eight points from give outings, despite the day's maiden defeat.
Bangladesh had to sweat hard as Nepal appeared to be tougher than expected by Arduzzaman and Co. However, the teamwork assisted the holders to make it five in a row.
Mizanur Rahman, the main raider of Bangladesh, displayed his brilliance again in the day's match, scoring 20 points and was adjudged man of the match.
The fiercely competitive day's affair saw the scoreline 9-9 at the end of the ten minute. The score line proceeded with 13-13, 14-13, 14-14 with players going out and coming in.
However, Bangladesh kept their cool at the finishing stage of the first half and managed to take a lead of 18-14 when the referees signaled the pause and asked to change the ends.
Bangladesh will face the Group B runners up in the semifinal while Nepal meet the Group B champions in the semifinal. The champions and runners up of Group B will be decided on Saturday.
In the day's another match, two-time runners-up Kenya reached the semifinals of the fourth edition of the Bangabandhu Cup Kabaddi beating stronger Thailand by 33-32 points with one lona in a keenly contest match at the same venue on Friday
Kenya led the first half by 20-16.

Bangabandhu Cup Kabaddi: Bangladesh to play Indonesia in their 3rd match on Wednesday
Holders Bangladesh, which shared the top slot in Group A with two consecutive wins, will face Indonesia in their third match of the Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi on Wednesday (May 29) at 4: pm at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
Bangladeshi boys won two consecutive matches against South Korea and Malaysia while Indonesia also won both of their matches against Poland and South Korea.
Both the teams have secured six points each to lead the points table of Group-A.
Ahead of the vital match against Indonesia, Bangladesh coach Abdul Jalil is found confident about a good result against Indonesia.
The experienced coach of Bangladesh said, “We want to win all the matches. We are playing matches as per our plan and will also play against Indonesia in the same way. We are not thinking about anything other than winning tomorrow (Wednesday). We are less stressed now as we have won two matches. The way we are playing now we are confident to reach the next round as the group topper.”
The Bangladeshi coach further said,, "Even though we have faced Indonesia previously, but we know little about them, we have closely watched the matches of our opponents and their playing styles and tried to understand them all.”
Coach Jalil said that all of his players are fully fit to play the vital match and there are no injury problems in the team.
According to the coach, the Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi Tournament has gained importance worldwide.
“Apart from Iran and India, all the top Kabaddi teams from the world had played here and the tournament became an important international Kabaddi tournament," the coach added.

Bangabandhu Int'l Kabaddi: Nepal pile up biggest victory outplaying Poland
Nepal piled up the biggest victory in the Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi Tournament outplaying European champions Poland by 93-41 points with five lonas at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
They led the first half by 53-22 points.
This was the 2nd consecutive victory for Nepal in the meet after beating Malaysia by 67-30 points in their first match.
Kenya, which beat Sri Lanka in the first match, also proved their mettle in their 2nd match on Tuesday beating Japan by 42-29 points after leading the first half by 21-10 points at the same venue this evening.
Kenyan skipper Daniel Omondi Odhiambo and his tall compatriot Reuben Njuguna displayed their brilliance in the match against Japan.
Daniel led his team from the front scoring 12 points.
Indonesia also continued their winning spree in the meet defeating South Korea by 43-32 points with two lonas in the day's other match at the same venue.
The winners led the first half 18-10 points.
In the day's other match, Thailand beat Sri Lanka by 41-17 points with three lonas after leading the first half by 19-10 points.

Bangabandhu Int'l Kabaddi: Holders Bangladesh earn 2nd consecutive victory beating Malaysia
Defending champions Bangladesh earned the 2nd consecutive victory in the 12-nation Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi crushing Malaysia by 73-22 points with six creditable lonas at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
Bangladesh, which made a flying start outplaying the World Cup semifinalists South Korea by 67-22 points with five Lona’s in the inaugural match, today (Monday) clearly dominated first half by 37-4 points with three lonas.
This was the 2nd successive defeat for Malaysia in the ongoing tournament after suffering a 30-67 points defeat against Nepal on the first day (Sunday).
In the day's match, the raiders and Bangladesh’s trade mark solid defense saw Malaysia have no clue to counter.
The confidence of Arduzzaman Munshi and Co. was visible from the very beginning of the match as the hosts kept the scoreboard ticking with regular raids and catches.
Al Amin, a right raider of Bangladesh, was adjudged the best player of the match scoring 18 points.
“I am focused on the teamwork and I am happy with the teams success, we have more challenges ahead and we believed that we will attain our goal. Bangladesh will prove their superiority in the field with teamwork” said Al Amin.

Twelve countries from the three continents --- Europe, Africa and Asia --are taking part in the 4th edition of the tournament, organised by Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF).
Participating countries are:
Group A -Bangladesh, Nepal, Poland, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea.
Group B - Iraq, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda and Japan.
On completion of the group matches on June 1, the top two teams from each of the group will play semifinal on June 2. The tournament will conclude on June 3 with the final match.

Bangabandhu Cup 2024 International Kabaddi begins Sunday
The participating countries are: Poland ,Kenya Uganda Japan, South Korea, Iraq, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh.
Earlier in the afternoon, Minister for Youth and Sports Nazmul Hassan Papon, MP, inaugurated the nine-day 12-nation tournament at a colouful opening ceremony as the chief guest by releasing balloons.
Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation president and Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun presided over the opening programme. Federation's general secretary and DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman was also present on the occasion.
4th Bangabandhu Cup 2024 International Kabaddi Tournament begins May 26
Addressing the function, the Sports Minister said, from the ministry they made a short list of important sports and Kabaddi is on that shortlist.
“On the other hand, it's our national game and we have to do well in this game. If we want to start kabaddi from our grassroots level, we will have to start Kabaddi from our educational institutions first.We will work together with Ministry of Education to spread kabaddi across the country. “
In the day' s opening match, hosts Bangladesh dominated the first half 24-11.
Bangladeshi raider Mizanur Rahman emerged as the destroyer for Korea and scored 21 points. Nobody came to challenge Mizan for the crown of the man of the match.
Asian Games Kabaddi: Bangladesh complete assignment with consolation win over Thailand
Bangladesh skipper Arduzzaman Munshi was also found in good form in the match to secure 10 points.
Bangladesh imposed a superb defense line up regularly frustrating the Korean raiders.

On completion of the scheduled league matches, both the Abahani and Mariners have secured 37 points each and as per league bye-laws the two teams have to play in a title-deciding play-off match.
But, the Hockey Federation failed to arrange the play-off match despite repeated initiatives and finally declared two teams as joint champions.

National Junior Athletics: Two more new national records created on 2nd day, Saturday
Two more new national records were made on the 2nd day of the three-day Sheikh Kamal 38th National Junior Athletics Championship 2024 now being held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday.
With day's feat, five new national records were created in the first two days.
Tasnia Hossain of BKSP made the day's first record in the 100 -metre hurdles with the timing of 15.74 seconds to better the event's prevous record of 16.41 seconds made by Roksana Begum of Noakhali in 2019.
Smriti Akter of Kishoreganj DSA created the day's 2nd record in the 800- metre run with a timing of 2:27.55 seconds to improve the event's old marks of 2:27.86 seconds made by China Khatun of Rajbari DSA in 2002.
Three new national records were made on the first day of the meet on Friday.
Sumaiya Akter of BKSP made the meet's first record in the 100-metre sprint with timing of 12. 49 seconds, Mohammad Shawon Kurigram set the 2nd national mark in the1500 metre run with a timing of 5:14.12 seconds while Sharmin Akter of BKSP made the 3rd record in shot put covering distance of 12.10 metres.
After the 2nd day of the meet, BKSP dominated the medal table of the meet securing 16 gold, eight silver and six bronze medals.
Noakhali DSA is in the distant 2nd collecting three gold, three silver and four bronze medals while Kishoreganj DSA is in the 3rd slot with two gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Athletics Federation made some changes on the 3rd and final day's program of the meet due to Cyclonic Storm "Rimal" and announced a revised schedule to complete competition by 12 noon on Sunday.
