Emergency services resume at DMCH, outdoor still closed
The emergency department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital started operating again on Monday afternoon, although the outpatient department remains closed.
Bachchu Mia, the police outpost in-charge at DMCH, stated, "The emergency services are running, but there is a shortage of doctors."
He added that extensive security measures have been implemented, with a significant presence of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), army personnel, and police at the hospital to provide protection to the doctors.
2 BGB platoons deployed at DMCH for ensuring doctors' security
It will be determined after 8pm whether the outpatient department will reopen.
On August 31, a patient died at DMCH, after which agitated loved ones alleged negligence on the part of the doctors and assaulted three of them at the hospital premises, prompting the doctors to call a strike.
They withdrew their call for a 'complete shutdown' of medical services across the country upon assurances from the health adviser to the interim government of security and arrest of the individuals who manhandled the doctors.
Subsequently two arrests were made, and security was beefed up.

LPG price hiked, 12 kg cylinder to cost Tk 1421
Price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been further increased to Tk 118.44 per kg from the previous price of Tk 114.79 for the month of September.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new price, saying that a 12 kg LPG cylinder’s price has been increased by roughly Tk 44.
A retail consumer will now have to spend Tk 1421 for a 12 Kg cylinder instead of Tk 1377 (including VAT).
Prices of other sizes of LPG cylinders – from 5.5 kg to 45 kg – will go up accordingly, the BERC said at a press briefing on Monday at the BERC office in Dhaka.
The new prices will be effective from 6 pm today (September 2, 2024).
BERC officials said the LPG price witnessed a little increase in the local market as Bangladeshi LPG operators normally import their products from the Middle-East market on the basis of Saudi CP.
As per the BERC decision, the price of “auto gas” (LPG used for motor vehicles) also increased to Tk 65.26 per litre (including VAT) from the previous price of Tk 63.21.
The price of LPG, marketed by state-owned LP Gas Company, will remain the same as it is locally produced with a market share of less than 5 percent.
LPG witnessed the highest price at Tk 1,498 (per 12 kg cylinder) in the local market in February last year.
