7 hackers held in Natore for swindling expatriate out of Tk1.2 lakh
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claimed to have detained seven hackers early Friday for tricking an expatriate Bangladeshi into sending them Tk1.2 lakh.
The detainees Md Belal, Mehedi Hasan, Md Shimul, Md Mohan, Shah Poran, Md Robi and Md Rubel hacked into expatriate Wasim's account on audio/video calling and instant messaging app imo, Farhad Hossain, RAB-5 Natore camp company commander, said.

Based on a complaint filed by Wasim's brother Monirul Islam, Rab conducted a drive across Natore's Lalpur upazila and detained the hackers.
Rab also recovered Tk15,500 and electronic devices from the hackers, Farhad said.
"We've lodged a case against the hackers and handed them over to Lalpur Police Station," he added.

Ex-SP Babul shown arrested in another DSA case filed by PBI
A court in Chattogram on Thursday showed former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhter arrested in another case filed by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) under the Digital Security Act.
Chattogram Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Abdul Halim granted the plea in presence of Babul Akhtar.
The case was filed under the Digital Security and Special Powers Acts by Superintendent of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Naima Sultana with Khulshi police station on October 17, said CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Md Kamrul Hasan.

The other accused in the case are Babul’s father Md Abdul Wadud Mia and brother Md Habibur Rahman Labu.
Earlier on September 27, PBI Chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar filed the case accusing four people including Babul Akhter on charge for making ongoing investigation on Mitu murder questionable, spreading false information and throwing abusive words.
US expatriate and Youtuber Elias Hossain along with Babul’s father and brother were made accused in this case. Of them, Elias was made the prime accused in the case.
On November 10, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ashek Imam ordered to show Babul arrested in the case filed by PBI Chief Banaj Kumar.
In the case the plaintiff alleged that all the accused intentionally spread false information to make objectionable the ongoing investigation of Mahmuda Khatun Mitu murder case through social platforms including Youtube.
Besides, Elias from the US spread misleading information to spoil communal harmony of the country and tarnish the image of PBI, the statement said.
On May 12, 2021, the PBI submitted its final report and arrested Babul Akhter in another case filed by Mitu’s father and since then he has been in prison.

Babul Akhter filed a no-confidence motion against the PBI report on October 14, 2021.
On November 3 last year, a Chattogram Court rejected the final report of PBI in the murder case and ordered it to conduct further investigation.
PBI in an investigation found Babul’s involvement in his wife's murder.
On September 25 this year, a Chattogram court rejected a plea filed by Babul seeking its permission to file a case against six officials of Police Bureau of Investigations (PBI) including its chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar for torturing him in police custody.
High-level BGB-BGP meeting begins
The eighth high-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP) began in Nay Pyi Taw of Myanmar on Thursday morning.
A 10-member delegation of Bangladesh led by BGB Major General Shakil Ahmed participated in the 5-day conference, according to a BGB press release.
On the other hand, a 15-member delegation led by Police Major General Aung Naing Thu represented the Myanmar side.
Border tensions caused by the recent internal conflict in Myanmar, airspace violations, combating inter-state terrorism and countering the activities of cross-border criminal gangs and preventing illegal trespassing will be emphasised at the conference.

There will be very effective and fruitful discussions on the repatriation of Rohingyas, forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals, to their country, said the release.
Besides, various ways of enhancing mutual trust between BGB and BGP, preventing human trafficking and drug smuggling will be discussed.
The Bangladesh delegation is scheduled to return to Dhaka on November 28 after the conference.
Ansar-al-Islam member put on 7-day remand for link to escape of 2 militants
A Dhaka court on Thursday placed a militant, who was arrested for his suspected involvement in the snatching of two convicted militants from police custody, on a seven- day remand.
The remanded accused is Mehdi Hasan Omi alias Rafi, 24, a member of the military wing of Ansar al-Islam.
He is an accused in the case which was filed with Kotwali police station in connection with the incident.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order when Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Inspector Muhammad Abul Kalam Azad, investigating officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a 10-day remand.
On Wednesday, CTTC arrested Rafi, for his involvement in the snatching of two convicted militants.
Three cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act were filed with Dhaka's Mohammadpur, Sutrapur and Badda Police Stations against Rafi for his involvement in anti-state and anti-government activities in 2016.
Besides, two more cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act were filed with Sylhet Kotwali Police Station against him in 2010 and 2012.

On November 20, Rafi, as per the group’s plan, led from the front in the snatching of the militants, who were sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case, from the CMM court premises in Dhaka after spraying pepper on the faces of the policemen, said Additional Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman, Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP) today (Thursday).
The escapees are Ansar al-Islam members Md Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab and Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Sifat alias Imran.
Police filed a case against 20 people in this connection. A five-member probe body was also formed by the Bangladesh Police on the same day and it was asked to submit its report within three working days.

The two militants – convicted to death in publisher Dipan murder case – were snatched from police custody on a Dhaka court premises at the instruction of top Ansar al-Islam leaders.
Additional Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP), said this at a press briefing at the DMP media centre on Thursday noon.
On Wednesday, CTTC arrested Mehdi Hasan Omi alias Rafi (24), a member of the military wing of Ansar al-Islam, who law enforcers said was involved in the escape of the two convicted militants.
Rafi is an accused in the case which was filed with Kotwali Police Station in connection with the incident.

Rafi used to recruit members in the ‘Askari’ wing of the banned militant group, in coordination with sacked army major Syed Ziaul Haque alias Major Zia, said the CTTC chief.
Rafi led his team in helping the two convicted militants escape from the Dhaka court premises, he said, adding that three cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act were filed with Dhaka's Mohammadpur, Sutrapur and Badda Police Stations against Rafi for his involvement in anti-state and anti-government activities in 2016.
Rafi used to communicate with the other accused during regular appearances at the court during trials of terrorism cases and informed them of the group’s plans, said the CTTC officer.
On November 20, Rafi led his group in whisking away the two militants, who were sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case, from the CMM court premises in Dhaka after using pepper spray on the faces of the policemen, he added.

NCTB chair, member again summoned over distortion of history in textbooks
The High Court (HC) on Wednesday summoned the chair of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) and a member of the institution to appear before it on November 29 to explain mistakes and distortions of history in textbooks for secondary and higher education.
The High Court bench of Justice Ashraful Kamal and Justice Md Shohrowardi gave the order following a supplementary petition filed by Md Alamgir Alam, a guardian of a student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.

Lawyer Ali Mustafa Khan represented the petitioner in the court while Deputy Attorney General Barrister Kazi Mainul Hasan represented the state.
Alamgir filed a writ petition last year, pointing out at least 500 mistakes and distortions of history in various textbooks for secondary and higher education.
After that, on September 26, the court summoned the NCTB chair and a member of the institution to explain mistakes and distortions of history in the textbooks.
Also, it issued a rule questioning asked to explain why their failure to prevent distortions of history in the books would not be declared illegal.
The education secretary, NCTB chair, its member (curriculum), and NCTB secretary were made respondents to the rule.

The court also asked the respondents to explain why they would not be directed to amend the distortions in the books.
Mustafa said: "The NCTB chair and a member appeared before the court last year and said there would be no such errors in the textbooks of the academic year 2022. As most of the mistakes remain, they were summoned to appear before the court next Tuesday."
Naogaon: 10, including 5 brothers, get life in prison for 2013 murder
A Naogaon court on Wednesday sentenced 10 people, including five brothers, to life imprisonment for the 2013 murder of a farmer over the ownership of a deep tube well in Badalgachhi upazila.
Judge Ferdous Wahid of Naogaon Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 gave the order during a hearing in the presence of the accused. He also fined them Tk20,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve two more years in jail, state lawyer Md Abdu Baki said.
The court, however, cleared three people of charges as they were not proven guilty, he added.

The lifers are Kamruzzaman, his brothers Wahed Ali, Shamsuzzaman, Rocket and Dablu; Abdul Hamid and his brother Enamul Hoque; Mosharraf Hossain, Bajlur Rahman and Emdadul Hoque from the village Durgapur.
Bajlur's wife Karima Begum, Enamul's wife Joly Akter and Md Jibon Ahmed of the same village were cleared of charges.
According to the case statement, two groups of villagers had been at loggerheads over the ownership of the deep tube well in Durgapur. A group of armed men led by Kamruzzaman swooped on farmer Ujjal Hossain and three others over it, leaving them critically injured, on May 9, 2013.

Ujjal succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital four days later.
On the following day, the village's Deep Tube Well Association General Secretary Majharul Islam filed a murder case accusing 13 people at Badalgachhi Police Station.
BGMEA calls upon Li & Fung increase value-added apparels from Bangladesh
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan called upon Li & Fung to increase sourcing garments, especially value-added products from Bangladesh.
He also requested Li & Fung to explore avenues of how they could collaborate with their suppliers in developing high-end products including man-made fibre-based apparels, home textiles and other products, and source those products from Bangladesh.
He made the request to Spencer Fung, Executive Chairman of Li & Fung, who paid a visit to BGMEA on November 23.

Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Press, Publication and Publicity Shovon Islam was also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, they discussed various trade-related issues, including the global apparel market situation and Li & Fung’s plans of business expansion in Bangladesh.
They also talked about how Li & Fung could collaborate with BGMEA to strengthen the capability of the Centre of Innovation, Efficiency and Occupational Health and Safety (CEOSH).
Their discussions also included the possible scope of Li &Fung’s cooperation to develop the knowledge and skills of students of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT).
Faruque Hassan said Bangladesh is increasingly focusing on moving up the value chain by diversifying products and upgrading technologies.

Escape of militants from court premises: CTTC arrests 1
Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday arrested one of the alleged militants who was involved in snatching two convicted militants from police custody on the Dhaka court premises, officials said.
The arrestee was identified as Mehdi Hasan Omi alias Rafi (24). Rafi is the accused in the case, which was filed with Kotwali police station in connection with the incident.

Two death row convicts in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case -- Md Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab and Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Sifat alias Imran-- and also members of the banned militant group Ansar al-Islam, were brought to a Dhaka court on Monday. After producing them before a magistrate, police were taking them back to the lock-up when some of their accomplices emerged out of nowhere, used pepper spray on the police and snatched the militants away.
Based on secret information, a team of the CTTC unit arrested Mehdi Hasan Omi alias Rafi. He is a member of the military wing of Ansar al-Islam.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Media and Public Relations Department under the DMP Farooq Hossain said that the arrested militant Mehdi Hasan had directly participated in the incident of militant snatching.
However, he did not disclose from where and when he was arrested.
Police filed a case against 20 people, including the two death row convicts in the Dipan murder case with Kotwali police station after Sunday’s incident.
Banks, financial institutions won’t be allowed to file cheque dishonour case: HC
The High Court on Wednesday ordered that banks and financial institutions will not be allowed to file any case against any person over cheque dishonor.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order after turning down the cheque dishonor case of Brac Bank against a small businessman for loan recovery.
At the same time, the court ordered stopping the proceedings of all check dishonor cases pending in the trial court.

However, a case can be filed in the Money Loan Court only under the Money Loan Act of 2003 for loan recovery, the HC said.
HC also instructed the lower courts to dismiss the cheque dishonour cases filed by any banks or financial institutions and send those to the Money Loan court.
On June 20 in 2016, Mohammad Ali, a small businessman of Brahmanbaria, was sentenced to six-month imprisonment and fined Tk 2.95 lakh in a cheque dishonour case.

On July 27 in 2015, Brac Bank filed the cheque dishonour case against Mohammad Ali .
Ali appealed to the HC against the judgment.
The HC relieved him of the imprisonment and ordered him to pay back 50 percent of the loan within the next 10 days, said his counsel Advocate Abdullah Al Baki.
Meanwhile, Brac Bank’s counsel Saifuzzaman Tuhin said they will appeal against the HC order.
