ACC approves case against Arman
Anti-Corruption Commission ( ACC) on Monday approved the case against the suspended vice- president of Dhaka Mohanagar Juboleague Enamul Haque Arman in connection with the casino scandal.
The case was filed with Dhaka Coordinated Office,ACC-1 after the investigation on 12 November 2019.

Deputy Director of ACC Public relation office Muhammad Arif Sadeq told UNB.
According to the case, Enamul Haque Arman earned a total of TK 12.45 crore illegal way while some 6.56 crore was siphoned off to the Singapore.

Crackdown on hoarding: 15,000 liters of Soybean oil seized in Chattogram
A team of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection in a drive seized 15,000 liters of soybean oil from three warehouses at Pahartoli in Chattogram port city on Monday.
During a nationwide drive against hoarding edible oil by some unscrupulous businessmen, a team of the department raided Siraj Store and seized the oil from its three warehouses, said deputy director of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Chattogram Foyez Ullah.

Earlier, on Sunday, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection in another drive seized 1050 bottles of edible oil kept hidden in a shop at Karnaphuli market and fined its owner Abdul Halim Tk 40,000 for hoarding oil.
New Market Clashes: Three more remanded
A Dhaka court on Friday placed three more people, including a student of Dhaka College, on a three-day police remand in two cases filed over the recent violence in New Market area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain passed the order after Investigation officer Md Tariqul Alam Jewel, Inspector of Detective Branch of police, produced the accused before his court and sought a 7-day remand to interrogate them.
Those remanded are- Dhaka College Student Mahmudul Hasan Siam, 21, and employees of Fast Food shop Moazzem Hossain Sajeeb, 23, and Mehedi Hassan Bappi, 21.
In the remand prayer, the IO said delivery man Nahid Hasan succumbed to his injuries after Siam hit him with a rod, as per CCTV footage of the area. Siam needs to be interrogated to get information about the killing.

At the same time, the investigating officer of another case, Haldar Arpito Tagore, requested to remand the accused Bappi and Sajib for seven days for assaulting policemen during the clashes on the same day.
The three were arrested from Shariatpur and Cox’s Bazar districts on Wednesday night, Rab officials said on Thursday.
Five other Dhaka College students, who were placed on two-day remand on April 25, are now in jail custody for their direct involvement in the clashes.
On Sunday, the investigating officer appealed to keep them in jail till the investigation of the case is completed which was granted by the court.
They are Abdul Kaiyum, a student of the Accounting Department, Palash and Irfan, both from the Social Science Department, Foysal from the Bangla department and Junayed from Islamic History department of Dhaka College.

Besides, Mokbul Hossain, a leader of BNP's Dhaka South unit convening committee, was placed on a three-day remand in the same case on April 23 and he is now in jail custody.
Two people, Nahid and Mursalin were killed while more than 30 others, including journalists and students, were injured as the students of Dhaka College clashed with the traders of New Market at the Nilkhet intersection and adjoining areas on April 19.
Shopkeepers alleged that the students were beaten up as they had refused to foot the bill at an eatery.
Police subsequently registered four cases against 1,400 people in connection with the clashes.
On April 20, a murder case was filed at the New Market police station following a complaint by Nahid’s father Nadim Hossain accusing anonymous people.
ACC sues NSU trustee board chairman, 5 others for stealing money
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday sued the chairman of the board of trustees of North South University (NSU) Azim Uddin Ahmed and five others for embezzling money in the name of buying land for the campus. The other accused are: Managing director of Ashalaya Housing and Developers Limited Amin Mobammad Hilali and NSU Board of Trustee members M.A. Kashem, Benazir Ahmed, Rehana Rahman and Muhammad Shahjahan.

The investigating officer of the ACC's Deputy Director Farid Ahmed Patwar filed the case, he said. According to the Private University Act, 2010, the Board of Trustees is the highest governing body of a private university like North South University. According to the Memorandum of Association and Articles (Rules and Regulations) of the University, the University is a charitable, welfare oriented, non-commercial and non-profit educational institution. The case states that over 9088 decimal land was bought in the name of campus development of NSU through the consent of some members of the Board of Trustees bypassing the approval of the University Syndicate, University Grants Commission and Ministry of Education. They later withdrew cash from the buyer through cash check in their own names and kept FDR in their own names. Later, they themselves embezzled the FDR money.

In carrying out such illegal activities, they have committed a punishable offense by resorting to fraud and forgery and exchanging commissions.
BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 143 cr in April
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members seized different types of smuggled goods including arms and drugs worth Tk 143.01 crore in anti-smuggling drives across the country in April this year.
Sources at the BGB headquarters said the seized drugs include 15,93,205 Yaba pills, 3.192 kg crystal meth also known as ice, 7.150 kg heroin (brown sugar), 4 kg opium, 22,854 bottles of Phensidyl, 10,386 bottles of foreign liquor, 4,608 cans of beer, 2,571 kgs of hemp, 50,102 stimulant injections, 25,605 Anegra and Senegra tablets, 5,044 Eascof syrup, two bottles of LSD and 86,163 other tablets during the period between April 1 and April 31.

Other smuggled goods include 15.954 kg gold, 26 kg silver, 3,10,030 cosmetics items, 44,240 imitation jewellery, 20,051 sarees, 4,583 three-piece sets, blanket, bed sheets and shirt pieces, 1,206 pieces readymade garments, 2,925 cubic feet of timber, 7,028 kgs of tea, 30,450 kgs of coal, three touch stone idols, 14 trucks/covered vans, five private cars/microbuses, eight pickup vans, 27 CNG and engine driven auto-rickshaws and 73 motorcycles.
The seized arms included two pistols, four guns, 21 rounds of bullets and 3.4 kg gun powder.
Besides, legal action has been taken against 251 smugglers, 145 Bangladeshi nationals and nine Indians for illegally crossing the border during the period, said Public Relations Officer of the BGB headquarters Md Shariful Islam.
New Market clashes: Three arrested
Three people have been arrested in connection with the recent clashes in New Market that claimed two lives, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said on Thursday.
The arrestees have been identified as Moazzem Hossain Sajeeb, 23, son of Abdul Mannan of Keraniganj, Mehedi Hassan Bappi, 21, son of Hawladar of Barishal district, and Mahmudul Hasan Siam, 21, son of Hasan Ali of Shariatpur district.
The three were arrested from Shariatpur and Cox’s Bazar districts on Wednesday night, Rab officials said.

Commander Al Moin, director of Rab's legal and media wing, said Bappi was directly involved in delivery man Nahid's killing.
“Bappi and Sajeeb were employees of Welcome Fast Food. The initial clash erupted when staffers of Capital Fast Food and Welcome Fast Food got engaged in heated arguments over placing tables for selling good before Iftar on April 18."
Later, 10-15 miscreants, known to the staffers of Welcome Fast Food, appeared there around 11.30pm and started beating up the staff of Capital Fast Food.
At one stage, both groups attacked each other, triggering the clash that spread to the Dhaka College area the following day, said Moin.
Bappi and Sajeeb went into hiding after the clashes and to conceal their identities, they had a haircut and had been trying to grab jobs at hotels in Cox’s Bazar.
Besides, in the CCTV footage of the area, Siam was found stabbing delivery man Nahid during the clashes. He also went into hiding to avoid arrest, Moin said. “Legal steps are being initiated against them."

Later, they were placed on police remand on the same day.
Serve with the spirit of patriotism, IGP tells his men
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has called upon all police personnel in Bangladesh to work with the spirit of patriotism.
"Without patriotism, the war against terrorists and criminals cannot be fought. Without patriotism, the country does not prosper, the society does not prosper and civilisation does not flourish,” said Benazir.
The IGP said these while exchanging Eid greetings with police personnel at the police headquarters in the capital's Minto Road area on Tuesday evening.

UNDP, ICT Division sign deal to launch cybersecurity awareness campaign
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the ICT Division of the government of Bangladesh have signed an agreement to launch a cyberecurity campaign for the youth and children in select LDCs.
Sudipto Mukerjee, Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh and Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations on Sunday.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Sudipto said the first-ever government cost-sharing agreement will further strengthen UNDP's partnership with the Bangladesh government.

"This partnership will prepare, aware, and activate the children and youth of the LDC countries to combat the future and ongoing challenges on the cyber security front," he said.
Bikarna Kumar said that under this partnership UNDP-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Award on Cyber Security Awareness would be announced to encourage and inspire the youth to combat cyber security challenges.
The ICT Division will provide US$ 5 million to implement the cyberecurity campaign for the youth and children in select LDC countries in 5 years.
Money will be raised from the "Golden Jubilee Bangladesh Concert" that will take place on May 6, 2022, at the Madison Square Garden in New York, where history was made in 1971.
The popular German Rock band Scorpions is set to perform at the same venue, just over 50 years after George Harrison organised a two-show Concert for Bangladesh.
Chirkutt, one of Bangladesh's most popular band is also expected to perform.
Senior officials from UNDP and ICT Division were present during the signing ceremony.

DMP to devotees: Bring nothing but prayer mats and umbrellas at National Eidgah
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has asked the devotees to bring only prayer mats and umbrellas when they join the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at National Eidgah.
The DMP commissioner said on Sunday “This is for security as a four tier measure has been ensured at the National Eidgah for the congregation.”
He was briefing the press about the security arrangements in the area for Eid-ul-Fitr.

While replying to a question the DMP chief said “There is no threat of militant attack at the main Eid congregation."
“This year DMP will ensure safety in1,468 Eid jamaats to be held across Dhaka in small and large mosques, eidgahs” he added.
He said “Bomb disposal unit will sweep the whole area before the beginning of Eid jamaat at National Eidgah and it will remain under CCTV camera surveillance.”

The DMP commissioner requested the worshipers to come to the congregation at the Eidgah before the scheduled time as it will take time to go through the checking.
He said similar security measures would be taken if the main congregation of Eid is held at Baitul Mukarram in case of inclement weather.
Central character in rail tickets scam in RAB custody
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two people, including the mainstay of the black market in then rail ticketing system, a systems engineer with a private online ticketing firm, from the City’s Kamalapur and Airport railway stations.
Based on secret information, a team of RAB-1 battalion picked up System Engineer of Sohoz.com Md. Rezaul Karim (38) from the company’s server room located on the 2nd floor of Kamalapur railway station, to its Uttara battalion headquarters for interrogation and further analysis of the data aiming to identify others involved in the scam. black marketing, said media officer of the Rab-1 battalion ASP Noman Ahmed.
Rezaul Karim provided important information related to the railway ticket black market. But at one stage of the interrogation, he made contradictory statements. Then his used mobile phone was monitored and Md. Rezaul Karim's direct involvement was found.

Based on his information, the elite force conducted a raid at Airport railway station on Wednesday night and arrested his associate Md. Emranul Alam Sarat (26) for selling his black market ticket. During this time, a large number of illegally collected railway e-tickets were seized from the smartphones used by both of them, the Media officer of RAB-1 added.
During interrogation, Rezaul Karim revealed that he has been involved in railway ticketing for the last 6 years. Prior to Sohoz.com, he also worked at CNS.bd. When Sohoz.com became responsible for railway tickets, he was reinstated as an experienced worker.
During interrogation, Rezaul Karim also revealed that he used to illegally remove about 2-3 thousand railway tickets during the Eid season every year.
He admitted that he used to earn about Tk 10-12 lakh illegally every season. Accused Rezaul Karim has several salesmen who are involved in selling these black market tickets at various railway stations.
Rezaul Karim said that he used to sell tickets to his personal acquaintances at an extra price of around Tk 500 per ticket. On the other hand, in case of sale through black market ticket sellers, an additional amount of Tk1000/1500 was charged. He claimed that he had been doing this without any hesitation as he used to meet the demand of various' VIPs' tickets on the railways.
