The clash spread over the villages of Maheshpur, East Makhati, Maddhyam Makhati, Rajarchar, Chardumuria, Chaitar Char Amghata, Munshikandi and Beherkandi on Monday, said police.
The clash started over an election related feud between the supporters of Mohsina Haque Kalpana, former chairman and Women Affairs Secretary of upazila Awami League and Ripan Patwary, present chairman and joint Secretary of upazila AL.
Mohsina Haque Kalpana said it was a preplanned attack by Ripon’s group on her supporters with guns, cocktails and sticks. “They attacked to ensure one-sided voting in the upcoming election of Makhati GC High School’s managing committee.”

However, Ripon Patwary denied the allegation saying it was Mohsina’s supporters who were involved in the aggression.
OC Abu Bakkar Siddique said, “The clash started after Ripon’s supporters attacked. At least five houses were vandalized during the clash; later police took control of the situation. Additional police troops have been deployed in the area.”
