Khoksha upazila Chattra League president’s brother sustains bullet injuries over By-election to UP
The younger brother of Kushtia’s Khoksha upazila Chattra League president sustained bullet injuries in an attack by unknown assailants over a child-like election to a union parishad at the upazila on Tuesday night.
The injured is Abdul Awal Kanak Khan, 25, younger brother of the upazila unit Chattra League President Shimul Ahmed Khan and son of Bakkar Khan of Malishia village under Joyantihazara union in the upazila.

Kanak sustained the bullet in his neck on his way to home at his village around 9pm leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
Locals said a heated environment had been prevailing in the upazila over a By-election to a union parish between supporters of the AL-nominated candidate and rival individual for the past few days.
President Shimul in a Facebook post from his personal account alleged that local lawmaker Barrister Selim Altaf George and the upazila unit AL President Babul Akter were behind the attack.

The lawmaker, however, denying the allegation claimed that he had no involvement with the attack and condemned it.

Syed Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Khoksha police station, said though electoral campaign got stopped, infighting among supporters of the candidates were going on.
An effort is on to nab the miscreants in this connection, he said.

15 injured, 5 with bullets, during AL factioonal clash in Munshiganj
Some 15 people were injured with five suffering bullet injuries on Monday during a clash between two groups of Awami League supporters over gaining the upper hand in ten villages of Mollakandi Union Parishad in Munshiganj sadar upazila.
The injured with bullet shots were identified as Sirajul Bepari, 65, of Munshikandi village, Hanif Molla, 38, and Kamal Hossain, 28, of Kangshapura village, Motin Dhali, 30, of Chardumuria village, and Mohammad Hossain,16, of Rajarchar village.
“Of them Sirajul and Hanif have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment while others were admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital. Other injured are also being treated at different hospitals in the upazila," said Abu Bakkar Siddique, officer-in-Charge of Munshiganj Sadar police station.

The clash spread over the villages of Maheshpur, East Makhati, Maddhyam Makhati, Rajarchar, Chardumuria, Chaitar Char Amghata, Munshikandi and Beherkandi on Monday, said police.
The clash started over an election related feud between the supporters of Mohsina Haque Kalpana, former chairman and Women Affairs Secretary of upazila Awami League and Ripan Patwary, present chairman and joint Secretary of upazila AL.
Mohsina Haque Kalpana said it was a preplanned attack by Ripon’s group on her supporters with guns, cocktails and sticks. “They attacked to ensure one-sided voting in the upcoming election of Makhati GC High School’s managing committee.”

However, Ripon Patwary denied the allegation saying it was Mohsina’s supporters who were involved in the aggression.
OC Abu Bakkar Siddique said, “The clash started after Ripon’s supporters attacked. At least five houses were vandalized during the clash; later police took control of the situation. Additional police troops have been deployed in the area.”

3 suffer bullet wounds in Chattogram AL infighting
Three leaders of local unit of Jubo League were shot and wounded in a clash with the supporters of a local Awami League leader at Amjur Haat in Patia upazila of Chattogram district on Tuesday night.
The injured were identified as Jamir Uddin, 53, ex-joint convener of Patia municipality unit Jubo League and two former assistant secretaries of Haidgaon union Jubo League—Saiful Islam, 38 and Iqbal, 40.
Locals said AL upazila unit member Mujibul Haque Chowdhury and joint general secretary of central unit Jubo League Mohammad Badiul Alam had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.
As a sequel to the enmity, a chase and counter-chase took place between the supporters of the two groups at night, triggering the clash around 10:30 pm, leaving the three people injured.

They were taken to Patia General Hospital.
Legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident after getting complaint, said Rezaul Karim Majumdar, officer-in-charge of Patia Police Station.

An on-duty Rab constable killed by bullet triggered from his own firearm
A Rab member died after being by a bullet reportedly from his own firearm at the main gate of Rapid Action Battalion headquarters in Uttara, Dhaka on Monday, an official said.
However, it was not immediately clear whether Constable Shovo Mallo, 26, died by suicide or accidental firing of the bullet.
Contacted, ASP Imran Khan, assistant director (legal and media wing) at the Rab told UNB that Shovo was on duty at the main gate of the Rab headquarters. Suddenly, he was hit by a bullet triggered from his own firearm at around 2:30 pm.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead at around 5:15 pm, said Imran.
Replying to a question, he said it was not immediately clear how the incident occurred. However, an investigation has been ordered to ascertain the actual reason, he added.
