In Jashore, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug traders at Dormutia village in Keshabpur upazila early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Maniruzzaman, 38, son of Jamal Uddin alias Madhu. He was wanted in 15 criminal cases, said police.
Tipped off that two groups of drug traders were exchanging bullets, a team of police conducted a drive in the area in the dead of night and recovered the bullet-hit body of Maniruzzaman.
One shutter gun, two bullets and one kg of hemp were recovered from the spot.
Police sent the body to Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Sylhet, a suspected criminal was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Ajargram in Jakiganj upazila early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan Munna, 35, son of Yeasir Ali of Khadiman village in the upazila. He was an accused in 12 criminal cases, said police.
Additional Superintendent of Sylhet Police Lutfur Rahman said police arrested Munna on Sunday night as he was a warrant listed criminal.
After interrogation, police along with Munna conducted a drive in the area to recover arms around 3:45 am, said Mir Abu Naser, officer-in-charge of Jakiganj Police Station.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the associates of Munna opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, Munna was caught in the line of fire while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, police recovered the body of Munna from the spot. Seven policemen were injured in the incident.
One pipe-gun, five bullets, six sharp weapons, 800 piece Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.
