Keraniganj, Feb 12 (UNB) – A total of 118 illegal establishments were demolished as an eviction drive by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) resumed on Tuesday along the Buriganga River’s banks.
BIWTA Executive Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman led the drive that started from Batteryghat in Kamrangirchar around 10am and continued till 5pm, said BIWTA sources.
In the first phase of the drive on January 29-31, the authorities dismantled some 444 illegal establishments. The second phase started on February 5.
The drives will continue until all the illegal establishments are cleared, said Public Relation Officer of Shipping Ministry Jahangir Alam.
Earlier, a total of 1,199 establishments were removed from the banks of the river.
