A Naogaon court has convicted five people and sentenced them to life imprisonment for killing a man in Mahadebpur upazila of Naogaon district in 2007.
Naogaon Additional District and Session Judge Ferdous Wahid handed down the punishment on Thursday.
The lifers were—Shahidul Islam, 50, son of Tasir Uddin, Abdus Salam, 60, Abul Kalam Azad, 55, Ashraf, 45, son of Abdus Samad, Ibrahim Hossain, 60, son of Subid Ali.

The court also fined Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in rigorous imprisonment.
The court also acquitted 11 people as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, Fazlur Rahman, son of Yunus Ali of Raiga village in Mahadebpur upazila was beaten to death by the convicts over land dispute on April 24, 2007.

Shahnaz Begum, wife of Fazlur filed the case with Mahadebpur Police Station.
Police submitted chargesheet against 19 people. Among them, three people died during the trial proceedings.
