The students under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar against Corruption’ brought out the procession in front of the Social Science Faculty at 1 pm, that concluded with a rally at the campus Shahid Minar.
During the rally, Economics Department Prof Anu Muhammad said influential sections of society curb others’ rights and utilise ‘muscle power’ to engage in corrupt activities.
“Corrupted groups are being nurtured in the country to sustain the power of influential people,” he said.
“We have to continue our fight against the corruption and terrorism jointly taking place on the campus,” he added.
Prof Mirza Taslima Sultana, Prof Sayeed Ferdous of Anthropology Department, Bangla Department prof Tarek Reza, Sudipta Dey, general secretary of JU unit Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (Marxist), and Mikha Piregu, Executive Member of Chhatra Union also spoke at the programme.
A section of JU students, teachers started the protests in August last year demanding judicial inquiry into the reported involvement of the vice-chancellor in corruption and mismanagement of the Tk 1,445 crore campus development project.
It has been alleged that the VC managed the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) JU unit leaders with Tk 1.6 crore from the development fund.
