Tenzin Lekphell specially mentioned about the way Bangladesh handled the Covid-19 situation.
The Bimstec SG said this when he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban.
PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
During the meeting, he said, Tenzin Lekphell congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for getting UN’s final recommendation for Bangladesh’s graduation from the LDC group to a developing country.
In response, the Prime Minister hoped that the Covid-19 situation would further be improved in the days ahead.
Referring to the great War of Liberation, Sheikh Hasina recalled with gratitude the contribution of Bhutan during the war and said Bhutan was the first country to recognise Bangladesh’s indefinite 1971.
During the talks, the new Bimstec SG, who is a Bhutanese national, conveyed greetings of the King and the Prime Minister of his country to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus was present.
Mentioning the establishment of Bimstec in 1997 during her first tenure as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister stated that many things can be achieved through joint efforts, according to A BIMSTEC media release.
She assured the Secretary General of her government’s full support to Bimstec process in making the OrganiSation a dynamic, effective and result-oriented regional grouping.
The Prime Minister also spelled out her government’s various initiatives laying equal emphasis on the lives and livelihoods of the people of Bangladesh to fight against the devastating effects caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
