“A total of 3,574 police members got the coronavirus as of Saturday,” said Assistant Inspector General (AIG-Media) of the Police Headquarters Md Sohel Rana.
An additional Deputy Inspector General of police, eight superintendents of police (SP), 19 additional SPs, 20 assistant SPs, 97 inspectors, 386 sub-inspectors (SI) and 781 assistant SIs are among the infected policemen, he added.
Earlier on Friday, sources at Police Headquarters said among the total coronavirus-infected police members, 1,277 are from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) alone till the date.
Among the total infected police members, 722 cops went home after full recovery.
Meanwhile, twelve members of the law enforcement agency died of COVID-19 as of Saturday, the sources said.
According to the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed, several preventive measures have been taken to reduce the risk of infection among the police members, said Md Sohel Rana.
Meanwhile, sufficient equipment were given to the hospitals dedicated to provide treatment for police members while private hospitals were also hired to treat cops, he said adding that this initiatives have reduce the rate of infection among cops.
Members of Bangladesh Police, Armed forces, and Rab, along with other agencies have been jointly working to ensure social distancing across the country.
Meanwhile, Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR) Directorate on Saturday reported that 1,364 members of Armed Forces both in-service and retired, their families, and civilians and others, who are employed in various organisations under the Armed Forces, have been infected with COVID-19.

Of them, 1,020 are members of Armed Forces both in service and retired, 92 members of their families and rest 152 are civilians and others, who are employed in various organisations under the Armed Forces, have been admitted to the Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs) with Covid-19 till Saturday.
Meanwhile, 421 infected members of Armed Forces have fully recovered, 10 have died, and other 933 patients admitted in various CMHs are healthy, said ISPR.
The number of coronavirus cases in the country has been rising alarmingly in the last few days while the highest number—1,873 was reported on Saturday.
