The death toll jumped to 1,209 as 38 more people died of COVID-19 during the same period. 

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin.

In the last 24 hours, 58 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 15,038 samples, she added.

The detection rate of new patients on Monday has been recorded at 20.61 percent.

Across the country 15,297 more patients made recovery, she said adding that so far 34,027 people have recovered from the disease.

“We are seeing that the number of total recoveries has increased significantly. It is because reports of those who have recovered today include not only hospital recoveries but also recoveries at home and recoveries of asymptomatic cases. IEDCR provided us the information,” Dr Nasima said. 

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 37.55 percent and the mortality rate is 1.33 percent in the country.

Among the deceased, 32 were male and six were female.  “Their age-based analysis says, three were aged between 21 and 30 years, three between 31 and 40 years, seven were aged between 41 and 50 years, five between 51 and 60, 15 between 61 and 70, and five more between 71 and 80 years,” Dr Nasima said.

Eighteen patients died in Dhaka division, 12 in Chattogram division, six in Sylhet division, one in Barishal division and another died in Rangpur division.

“Twenty five people died in hospitals across the country,11 died at home and two more were declared dead upon arrival at hospitals,” she added.

Besides, 536 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 295 were released. Currently, 9,758 people are in isolation.

During the same period, another 2,922 people were home and institutionally quarantined and 3,067 were released. At present 61,669 people are quarantined across the country.

Global situation
 
The number of globally confirmed coronavirus cases reached 7,893,700 as of Monday morning, according to figures compiled by the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.
 
Besides, 432,922 deaths recorded across the globe  since the virus emerged in China late last year.

More than 3.7 million recoveries were also reported.

The worst-hit U.S. has recorded over 2 million confirmed cases, with115,732 deaths and Brazil has reported 867,624 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus with 43,332 deaths.

Russia is now in third position with 528, 267 cases followed by India (320,922), United Kingdom (297,342) and Spain (243,928).

The UK has the third-highest death toll at 41,783, followed by Italy with 34,345, France 29,410 and Spain 27,136, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, Chinese health authorities said on Monday that they had received reports of 49 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Chinese mainland on Sunday, of which 39 were local transmissions. No new deaths were reported.
 
The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
Coronavirus cases were first reported in China December last year.
